When uninvited guests appear on her doorstep, she’s forced to face a party of all the people she ran from when she left the Immortal World. No thanks to that torture! Book Aspects of the Grammar and Lexica of Artificial Languages

Download or read book Aspects of the Grammar and Lexica of Artificial Languages written by Alan Libert and published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book treats various areas of the phonetics, orthography, morphology, syntax, and lexica of artificial languages in an effort to determine what features such languages have in common, and how they differ. Among the topics dealt with are affricates, digraphs, stress, plural formation, demonstratives, prepositional case assignment, color terms, terms for beverages, and terms for meteorological phenomena. Data from many artificial languages, gathered from both primary and secondary sources, are presented in an attempt to give a picture of tendencies among them. The comparative examination of the languages considered in this book demonstrates that artificial languages are relatively uniform in some phonological aspects (e.g. nasals and affricates) while they show a considerable degree of variation in relation to some morphological categories (e.g. demonstratives and plurals). With regard to vocabulary from various lexical fields, in addition to the expected differences among a priori languages, different degrees of uniformity were found among a posteriori and mixed languages with respect to lexemes with particular meanings.

Book Your One Year Old

Download or read book Your One Year Old written by Louise Bates Ames and published by Dell. This book was released on 2012-01-18 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The child from twelve to twenty-four months of age is a joy to have around—some of the time, that is. This child is growing at an incredible rate, learning to walk, learning to touch, learning to love, and learning to say “No!” for the first time. All of this can be quite a handful for the new parent. In this first book in the series from the renowned Gesell Institute, which includes Your One-Year-Old through Your Ten- to Fourteen-Year-Old, the authors discuss all important questions that concern the twelve- to twenty-four-month-old child. They examine the various stages of development between infancy and toddlerhood: what new things the child can do; how the child acts with parents and other people; what the child thinks and feels. Included in this book: • Sleeping and feeding routines • A one-year-old’s view of the world—and herself • Accomplishments and abilities • The basics of toilet training • Stories from real life • A list of age-appropriate toys and books • A bibliography for parents “Louise Bates Ames and her colleagues synthesize a lifetime of observation of children, consultation, and discussion with parents. These books will help parents to better understand their children and will guide them through the fascinating and sometimes trying experiences of modern parenthood.”—Donald J. Cohen, M.D., Director, Yale Child Study Center, Irving B. Harris Professor of Child Psychiatry, Pediatrics, and Psychology, Yale School of Medicine

The matriarch of this unusual family is a university lecturer and an accomplished shoplifter, and her husband is a master thief whose ingeneous exploits include relieving the Aga Khan of his wardrobe of expensive suits--since they both happened to be the same size. An uncle, universally known as Ten-Per-Cent Farouk, lives with the family in Fordsburg, a suburb of Johannesburg. And Firoze, the narrator of this wickedly humorous novel from South African writer Imraan Coovadia, is a dreamer and a bookworm, who is radically different from, but inextricably bound to, his identical twin, Ashraf. Green-Eyed Thieves follows this clan of skilled criminals and the twins as they embark on a series of mind-boggling adventures that include a love triangle with the twins' perfect match, a masterly heist at Sun City, and a surprise appearance at the White House. Including cameos by George W. Bush, Mohammed Atta, and a Pakistani Brigadier in Peshawar, these original and lively family adventures are sure to delight.
