Book A Book of Open Shop Scheduling

Download or read book A Book of Open Shop Scheduling written by Wieslaw Kubiak and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-03 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an in-depth presentation of algorithms for and complexity of open shop scheduling. Open shops allow operations of a job to be executed in any order, contrary to flow and job shops where the order is pre-specified. The author brings the field up to date with more emphasis on new and recent results, and connections with graph edge coloring and mathematical programming. The book explores applications to production and operations management, wireless network scheduling, and timetabling. The book is addressed to researchers, graduate students, and practitioners in Operations Research, Operations Management, computer science and mathematics, who are developing and using mathematical approaches to applications in manufacturing, services and distributed wireless network scheduling.

Book excerpt: This book provides a theoretical and application-oriented analysis of deterministic scheduling problems in advanced planning and computer systems. The text examines scheduling problems across a range of parameters: job priority, release times, due dates, processing times, precedence constraints, resource usage and more, focusing on such topics as computer systems and supply chain management. Discussion includes single and parallel processors, flexible shops and manufacturing systems, and resource-constrained project scheduling. Many applications from industry and service operations management and case studies are described. The handbook will be useful to a broad audience, from researchers to practitioners, graduate and advanced undergraduate students.

Book Graph Based Modelling in Science Technology and Art

Download or read book Graph Based Modelling in Science Technology and Art written by Stanisław Zawiślak and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-08-01 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents interdisciplinary, cutting-edge and creative applications of graph theory and modeling in science, technology, architecture and art. Topics are divided into three parts: the first one examines mechanical problems related to gears, planetary gears and engineering installations; the second one explores graph-based methods applied to medical analyses as well as biological and chemical modeling; and the third part includes various topics e.g. drama analysis, aiding of design activities and network visualisation. The authors represent several countries in Europe and America, and their contributions show how different, useful and fruitful the utilization of graphs in modelling of engineering systems can be. The book has been designed to serve readers interested in the subject of graph modelling and those with expertise in related areas, as well as members of the worldwide community of graph modelers.

Book Scheduling in Computer and Manufacturing Systems

Download or read book Scheduling in Computer and Manufacturing Systems written by Jacek Blazewicz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theoretical and application-oriented analysis of deterministic scheduling problems arising in computer and manufacturing environments. The important classical results are surveyed with particular attention paid to single-processor scheduling, along with general models such as resource-constrained scheduling, flexible flow shops, dynamic job shops, and special flexible manufacturing systems. Polynomial and exponential-time optimization algorithms as well as approximation and heuristic ones are presented using a Pascal-like notation, before being discussed in the light of particular problems. Basic concepts from scheduling theory and related fields are described to assist less advanced readers.

Book Scheduling and Lot Streaming in Two Machine No wait Openshops

Download or read book Scheduling and Lot Streaming in Two Machine No wait Openshops written by Esaignani Selvarajah and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lot streaming is the process of splitting a production lot into a number of sublots, in order to allow overlapping of successive operations, in multi-machine manufacturing systems. The well documented benefits of lot streaming include reductions in lead times and work-in-process, and increases in machine utilization rates. We study the problem of minimizing the makespan in two machine no-wait openshops producing multiple products. We assume that there is a fixed maximum number of sublots for each product, and that lot streaming is possible. This intractable problem requires finding sublot sizes, a product sequence for each machine and a machine sequence for each product. We prove that optimal solutions can always be obtained for single product continuous case in polynomial time. A heuristic algorithm, Global is developed for the multi-product integer-sized sublot problem. For the multi-product case, we simultaneously find the optimal number of sublots from a given upper bound on the number of sublots, sublots sizes and the product sequence. This problem is shown to be equivalent to a Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) with a pseudo-polynomial number of cities, for which computationally efficient heuristics are tested. Finally we provide some possible extensions of our model and the results of the computational experiments on randomly generated problem instances.
