Book Surgical Anatomy Vol 1 of 3

Download or read book Surgical Anatomy Vol 1 of 3 written by John Blair Deaver and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Surgical Anatomy, Vol. 1 of 3: A Treatise on Human Anatomy in Its Application to the Practice of Medicine and Surgery; Upper Extremity, Back of Neck, Shoulder, Trunk, Cranium, Scalp, Face This book has been twelve years in preparation. During this time, while no change has been made in its plan, its scope has been much enlarged, to meet a wider field than for which it was first intended. My original purpose was to furnish for students a text-book Of Surgical Anatomy, then much needed and not obtainable by them. 2i have made a book which will be serviceable, I hope, not alone to them, but to practising physicians and surgeons. While, I regret to say, this subject is much neglected in our American institutions, there came to be, nevertheless, during the progress of this work, an increasing and encouraging recognition Of its importance. In some schools the course was much enlarged in others new courses were established. In my own classes the work has constantly grown, until it has become not alone an adjunct to, and application of, descriptive anatomy, but rather the bridge between that study and practice of surgery itself. To meet these requirements it has not been sufficient for me to emphasize and clarify the facts of descriptive anatomy as required Of undergraduates. I have been compelled to bring to them the knowledge Of anatomy which I have used and as I have used it in surgical practice. My book has kept pace with this change and growth. I have in no case cut down descriptions nor the teaching devoted to surgical anatomy, nor directions for and procedure in dissection, but I have added much relating to surgical work. I have endeavored to regard fully the necessities of undergraduates, and at the same time have had in mind constantly the requirements which they will meet as surgeons in their chosen field, and have tried to make for them a sufficient work of reference for use in actual practice. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on Surgical Anatomy, Vol. 1 The author of the following work had observed with regret, the slow progress, which, even the most assiduous of the Pupils of the College of Surgeons, generally made in the acquirement of anatomical knowledge. A close consideration of the matter led him to apprehend, that this originated from some material defects in the established mode of teaching this science. What these defects are, he has endeavoured to explain in the Address prefixed to this work. Further reflection convinced him, that most of the obstacles which retarded the progress of the Student might be removed, by devising a plan of instruction, which should point out at each step, the practical application of anatomical researches to surgical uses. And the rapid advances in useful knowledge, made by the Pupils, since the adoption of such a plan, have served to confirm his opinion of its utility. The following work was undertaken with the view of giving additional efficacy to an experiment, in the success of which, the Author feels himself so deeply interested. Download or read book Morris s Human Anatomy Vol 1 of 5 written by Henry Morris and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-27 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Morris's Human Anatomy, Vol. 1 of 5: A Complete Systematic Treatise by English and American Authors One criticism upon most of the current text-books of human anatomy is that they are too extensive for the beginner. Much precious time is wasted by him in oundering through a mass of details which obscure the fundamental facts. And yet it is important to have these details conveniently accessible for both present and future reference. To meet this difficulty, the attempt is made in this edition to discriminate systematically in the use of sizes of type. The larger type is used for the more fundamental facts, which should be mastered first, and the smaller type for details. While it has been found difficult to apply this principle uni formly through the various sections, it is hoped that the plan, even though but imperfectly realized, will prove useful to the beginner. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MOST VALUABLE ANATOMY BOOK IN THE WORLD Classic 1918 Publication Revised Edition, 1247 Coloured Engrawings As Well As a Subject Index With 13,000 Entries Ranging from the Abdomentum to the Zygomaticus REVISED & RE-EDITED & RE-ILLUSTRATED 1918 TWENTIETH EDITION AND WHOLE IN ONE VOLUME Gray's Anatomy is an English-language textbook of human anatomy originally written by Henry Gray and illustrated by Henry Vandyke Carter that may be most readable and popular anatomy book in the World literature. Earlier editions were called Anatomy: Descriptive and Surgical and Gray's Anatomy: Descriptive and Applied, but the book's original name is commonly shortened to, and later editions are titled, Gray's Anatomy. The book is widely regarded as an extremely influential work on the subject, and has continued to be revised and republished from its initial publication in 1858 to the present day. The latest edition of the book, the 41st, was published in September 2015. Last's textbook, 'Anatomy Regional and Applied', was first published in 1954 and heralded a new generation of anatomy texts providing a more concise option to 'Gray's Anatomy' or Cunningham's 'Textbook of Anatomy'. Origins of the Books History: The English anatomist Henry Gray was born in 1827. He studied the development of the endocrine glands and spleen and in 1853 was appointed Lecturer on Anatomy at St George's Hospital Medical School in London. In 1855, he approached his colleague Henry Vandyke Carter with his idea to produce an inexpensive and accessible anatomy textbook for medical students. Dissecting unclaimed bodies from workhouse and hospital mortuaries through the Anatomy Act of 1832, the two worked for 18 months on what would form the basis of the book. Their work was first published in 1858 by John William Parker in London. It was dedicated by Gray to Sir Benjamin Collins Brodie, 1st Baronet. An imprint of this English first edition was published in the United States in 1859, with slight alterations. Gray prepared a second, revised edition, which was published in the United Kingdom in 1860, also by J.W. Parker. However, Gray died the following year, at the age of 34, having contracted smallpox while treating his nephew (who survived). His death had come just three years after the initial publication of his Anatomy Descriptive and Surgical. SINCE the publication of the first English edition of this work in 1858 and the first American edition in 1859 great advances in the subject of Anatomy have been made, especially in microscopic anatomy and the anatomy of the embrio. This knowledge was embodied from time to time in the successive editions until finally considerable portions of the text, sometimes sections, were devoted to these subjects. However, the main text has always remained primarily a descriptive anatomy of the human body. In the present edition the special sections on embryology and histology have been distributed among the subjects under which they naturally belong. New matter on physiological anatomy, laws of bone architecture, the mechanics and variations of muscles have been added, occupying much of the space formerly devoted to the sections in applied anatomy.
