Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on Fever The following Work is wholly of a practical nature: its object is to ascertain the real phenomena of Fever, and the most safe and effectual treatment of the disease. It was found impossible to include in this volume some researches of a statistical nature which it was at first intended to incorporate in the work. On looking over the account which has been given of the phenomena, I find that, by an oversight, I have omitted to make any mention of the peculiar odour which belongs to a fever-patient. It is so characteristic that a person, familiar with the disease, might in many cases be able to pronounce, merely from the odour of the effluvia that arises from the body, whether the disease were fever. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on the Continued Fevers Tremor and delirium are other signs which call for stimulants; they are mostly the result of failing nervous power. Yet, certainly with reference to delirium, we cannot make our rule too absolute. Delirium may be due, not to defective nerve-energy and poisoned blood, but to intracranial mischief, though, excepting cerebro - spinal fever, such is rarely the case. This book was released on 2017-12-04 with total page 732 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on the Continued Fevers of Great Britain The voluminous literature on the subject Of F evers, proves the interest attached to them by medical men, in all ages, down to the present day. Like other contagious and epidemic diseases, which are due to the action of a Specific poison, Continued Fevers possess a peculiar attraction for the medical philosopher, inasmuch as their study involves an investigation, not merely of their symptoms, pathology, and treatment, but more especially of the causes Of their varying prevalence at different periods, and of the laws that regulate their origin and propagation; while, at the same time, a knowledge of fever in the abstract, is indispensable for the study and treatment of all acute diseases. In the Whole range Of human maladies, ' said Graves, one Of the greatest authorities on the subject, there is no disease of such surpassing interest and importance as fever.' Download or read book Text Book of the Eruptive and Continued Fevers Classic Reprint written by John W. Moore and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-02-14 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Text-Book of the Eruptive and Continued Fevers IT may be desirable to state very briefly the circumstances under which this work has come to see the light. To write a Text-book on Fever while the splendid mono graph of Charles Murchison is our possession to all time may well be deemed presumptuous. But, on the threshold, I would disclaim any intention of allowing the present work hoc parvum opusculum - to enter the lists with that unrivalled masterpiece. However, even since Dr. William Cayley, in 1884, edited, with excellent good taste and literary skill, the posthumous edition of Murchison's Treatise, the study of the Continued F evers has received a great impetus, and the necessity of a sound knowledge of Fever by every practitioner of medicine has been more and more recognised.
