Book A Treatise on Elementary Dynamics Classic Reprint

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on Elementary Dynamics In the following work I have attempted to write a fairly complete text-book on those parts of Dynamics which can be treated without the use of the Infinitesimal Calculus. The hook is intended for the use of beginners, but it is probable that most students would find it advisable, at any rate on the first reading of the subject, to confine their attention to the examples given in the text, reserving most of the questions at the ends of the chapters for a second reading. Most students would also find it advisable to omit Chap. III., the last four articles of Chap. IV., and Chap. IX., until the rest of the book has been fairly mastered. I have ventured to alter slightly the time-honoured enunciation of Newton's Second Law of Motion. I have used the property of the hodograph in the chapter on normal acceleration and in dealing with the motion of a particle in a conic section with an acceleration directed towards the focus. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Elementary Treatise on Rigid Dynamics This elementary treatise on Rigid Dynamics has arisen out of a course of lectures delivered by me, during the past few years, to advanced classes in the University. It is intended as a text-book for those who, having already mastered the elements of the Calculus and acquired some familiarity with the methods of Particle Dynamics, wish to become acquainted with the principles underlying the equations of motion of a solid body. Although indebted to the exhaustive works of Routh and Price for many suggestions and problems, I believe that the arrangement of the work, method of treatment, and more particularly the illustrations, are entirely new and original; and that they will not only aid beginners in appreciating fundamental truths, but will also point out to them the road along which they must travel in order to become intimate with those higher complex motions of a material system which have their culminating point in the region of Physical Astronomy. My thanks are due Mr. J. C. Glashan of Ottawa, who has kindly read the proofsheets and supplied me with a large collection of miscellaneous problems. Book An Elementary Treatise on the Dynamics of a Particle and of Rigid Bodies Classic Reprint

Download or read book An Elementary Treatise on the Dynamics of a Particle and of Rigid Bodies Classic Reprint written by S. L. Loney and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-11 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Elementary Treatise on the Dynamics of a Particle and of Rigid Bodies N the following work I have tried to write an elementary class-book on those parts of Dynamics of a Particle and Rigid Dynamics which are usually read by Students attending a course of lectures in Applied Mathematics for a Science or Engineering Degree, and by Junior Students for Mathematical Honours. Within the limits with which it professes to deal, I hope it will be found to be fairly complete. I assume that the Student has previously read some such course as is included in my Elementary Dynamics. I also assume that he possesses a fair working knowledge of Differential and Integral Calculus; the Differential Equations, with which he will meet, are solved in the Text, and in an Appendix he will find a summary of the methods of solution of such equations. In Rigid Dynamics I have chiefly confined myself to two dimensional motion, and I have omitted all reference to moving axes. I have included in the book a large number of Examples, mostly collected from University and College Examination Papers; I have verified every question, and hope that there will not be found a large number of serious errors. For any corrections, or suggestions for improvement, I shall be grateful. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book An Elementary Treatise on Dynamics

Download or read book An Elementary Treatise on Dynamics written by Benjamin Williamson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-06 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Elementary Treatise on Dynamics: Containing Applications to Thermodynamics, With Numerous Examples Although in recent years several important works on Dynamics have been published in England, yet none have been issued which seem to fill the role contemplated in this book. In its composition we have started from the most ele mentary conceptions, so that any Student who is acquainted with the conditions of Equilibrium and with the notation of the Calculus can commence the Treatise without requiring the previous study of any other work on the subject. The first half contains a tolerably full treatment of what is usually styled the Dynamics of a Particle. The latter half treats of the Kinematics and Kinetics of Rigid Bodies; and throughout we have kept the practical nature of the subject in view, and have, in general, avoided purely fancy problems. This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Elementary Treatise on Kinematics and Dynamics This book treats in an elementary manner the whole of what is ordinarily known as Abstract Dynamics, including Kinematics, Kinetics, and Statics, and is designed for use in the higher classes of Schools and the junior classes of Colleges and Universities. It assumes, therefore, a knowledge of only the more elementary branches of Mathematical Science - Geometry, Algebra, and Plane Trigonometry. The kinematical portions of the subject are treated by themselves, not only because this course is the more logical, but also because it has been found in my experience to be the better from an educational point of view. The usual division of Dynamics into Kinetics and Statics has not been adopted; but statical problems are throughout regarded as boundary cases of kinetic problems, the equations of equilibrium being in all cases deduced from the equations of motion. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on Elementary Dynamics: Dealing With Relative Motion Mainly in Two Dimensions IT is hoped that this little treatise may be of use to Candidates for mathematical scholarships, and to others whose reading is not quite elementary. I have assumed on the part of the student a knowledge of Trigonometry up to the Solution of Triangles, and of the simpler parts of Analytical Geometry; I have made occasional reference to the notation of the Differential Calculus for the benefit of students who may be beginning that subject. Chapter I. Deals chiefly with matter which in one form or another will be familiar to the student; I have, therefore. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise: On Elementary Dynamics for the Use of Colleges and Schools We shall not attempt to give a definition of space our idea of it must be considered a primary conception. Time is defined by the metaphysician as the suc cession of ideas; the physicist treats time, like space, as a primary conception. Equal times are generally defined as those intervals during which the earth turns through equal angles rela tive to the fixed stars, and any duration of time may then be measured by the angle turned through by the earth during the interval. The most Obvious unit of time is therefore the sidereal day, or the period during which the earth makes a complete rotation on its axis relative to the fixed stars. The unit generally adopted is the second of mean solar time. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book A Treatise on Dynamics Classic Reprint written by William Henry Besant and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-12-11 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on Dynamics The object of the present Treatise is to introduce the mathematical student to some of the earlier and easier branches of Kinematics and Kinetics. In the chapter allotted to Kinematics, I have deduced the expressions for velocities and accelerations, as far as possible, from the definitions and axioms of the subject. In the applications to Kinetics, or, in other words, in the combination of these expressions with the Laws of Motion, for the determination of the motion of a particle or of a system, I have adopted the same plan of operations. I have assumed, and made free use of, the methods of Analysis, for the performance and simplification of the requisite calculations. The methods employed, and the order of thought which is followed, are those which during my experience as a teacher I have found to be most effective in the elucidation and development of the ideas of Kinetics. The majority of students do not easily or rapidly absorb general ideas, and they are most effectively assisted by the gradual development of a subject through simple cases, and illustrative examples. The phenomena of every day life provide innumerable qualitative experiments, and to most students quantitative laboratory experiments in dynamics are neither interesting nor convincing.
