Book A Treatise on Chemistry and Chemical Analysis Vol 1

Download or read book A Treatise on Chemistry and Chemical Analysis Vol 1 written by UNKNOWN. AUTHOR and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-16 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on Chemistry and Chemical Analysis, Vol. 1: Prepared for Students of the International Correspondence Schools, Scranton, Pa; Arithmetic, Elementary Algebra and Trigonometric, Functions, Physics, Theoretical Chemistry, With Practical Questions and Examples In the first five of the six volumes composing this set are included all the Instruction and Question Papers used in our Course in Chemistry, including Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis; they give in a clear and concise form not only the theory, but also the practical applications of chemistry and chemical analysis. These volumes constitute a valuable work of reference in connection with the innumerable problems so frequently met with in analytical chemistry and in the manufacturing industries. The subject of Inorganic Chemistry is very thoroughly covered, and we have introduced a number of simple experiments that will serve to illustrate the text and render the student familiar with the manipulation and use of the apparatus most frequently employed. That portion of the Course dealing with Organic Chemistry has been so arranged as to render evident the relations existing between the various classes of compounds; for this reason the usual practice of treating the fatty and aromatic derivatives separately has not been adopted, the compounds of both classes being considered together in their appropriate places. The papers treating on Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis have been prepared with great care; the student who thoroughly studies the text and performs the analyses required will be able to make all the analyses usually performed by analytical chemists. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Handbook of Chemical Analysis: Adapted to the Unitary Notation By means of reagents the chemist puts questions to the sub stance under examination, inquiring whether it contains this or that group of similar elements, or only this or that member of such groups. The answers to these questions are afforded by the occurrence or non-occurrence of the consequent reactions. If the question be put correctly, i. E. If all the conditions under which the reaction expected can be produced by the reagent employed be carefully observed, the answer is decisive as to the presence or absence of the element, or group of elements, sought; if, on the other hand, these conditions, i. E. The properties and chemical relations of the bodies formed by the chemical changes which constitute the reaction, have been wholly or partially neglected, the answer, if not certainly erroneous, is at least doubtful. Book Calculations of Analytical Chemistry

Download or read book Calculations of Analytical Chemistry written by Leicester F. Hamilton and published by Hamilton Press. This book was released on 2008-11 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CALCULATIONS OF ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY by LEICESTER F. HAMILTON, S. B. and STEPHEN G. SIMPSON. Originally published in 1922. PREFACE: The title of this book has been clfanged from Calculations of Quantitative Chemical Analysis to Calculations of Analytical Chem istry because the subject matter has been expanded to cover the stoichiometry of both qualitative and quantitative analysis. In order to include calculations usually covered in courses in qualitative analysis, some rearrangements of material have been made, new sections have been added, and chapters dealing with equilibrium constants and with the more elementary aspects of analytical . calculations have been considerably expanded. Al together, the number of sections has been increased from 78 to 114 and the number of problems from 766 to 1,032. The greater part of the book is still devoted to the calculations of quantitative analysis. Short chapters on conductometric and amperometric titrations and a section on calibration of weights have been added, and many other changes and additions have been made at various points in the text. A section reviewing the use of logarithms has been inserted, and a table of molecular weights covering most of the problems in the book is included in the Appendix. It is felt that every phase of general analytical chemistry is adequately covered by problems, both with and without answers, and that most of the problems require reasoning on the part of the student and are not solved by simple substitution in a formula.
