Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook, like others in this series, concentrates on exegetical matters that are of prime importance for translators, and it attempts to indicate possible solutions for translational problems that may arise because of language or culture. In this respect the Handbook attempts to deal with the full range of information important to translators. However, the authors do not attempt to provide help that other theologians and scholars may be seeking but which is not directly useful for the task of translating. It is assumed that such information is available elsewhere.

It is designed for use by everyone involved in that process, including national translators, editors and reviewers, as well as expat or national translation advisors and consultants. The TRT lets users know what the Greek (or Hebrew) text says in every verse and gives thorough text-critical information. It uses notations to identify translation ussues and offer potential solutions in context. The TRT provides appropriate implied information within a balanced translation approach. It gives suggested footnotes and pictures for teams to include in their translations. The TRT gives careful attention to discourse level concerns and includes many cues in the text itself to encourage a cohesive, natural translation. It also identifies parallel passages in the gospels, including the parallel translation issues. The TRT complements other translation tools and equips translation teams to produce a translation that is accurate, natural and acceptable to the intended audience.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A weave of exegesis of the biblical text and considerations of its meaning for Christian life. . . . attractive and nourishing.” —The Bible Today The Gospel writers state they aim to tell the story of Jesus in a clear manner, but throughout Paul McCarren’s years in ministry, he has seen that these simple and important messages are too often missed. In his Simple Guides to the Gospels series, McCarren provides a new translation of each Gospel book, leading readers chapter by chapter through the text. Each section includes scripture and a brief, engaging commentary about how readers can relate to the material. The Simple Guides introduce readers to life in early Christianity, describe points of controversy, and show how each section fits with those that went before. The Simple Guide to Matthew highlights many of Jesus’ compelling sayings, stories such as the Sermon on the Mount, and key themes of Jesus’ ministry, such as trust. The books in the Simple Guides to the Gospels series are available individually or together as a complete set. “Reading these books is like studying the Gospels with a learned, literate, and lively guide.” —James Martin SJ, author of The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything “Written in a lively style with fresh translations and original insights. . . . Readers will be stimulated to think creatively about familiar texts.” —John R. Donahue, Raymond E. Brown Distinguished Professor of New Testament Studies (Emeritus), St. Mary’s Seminary and University “These valuable guides may be profitably used for ones’ own spiritual growth and prayer life, or in group study of the Gospels at the parish or catechetical level.” —Alan C. Mitchell, Georgetown University

Book Thematic Dictionary of Matthew

Download or read book Thematic Dictionary of Matthew written by Rev. Prof. PETER PRYCE and published by Rev. Dr. Peter Pryce. This book was released on 2019-07-16 with total page 620 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problems that we set out to solve were: 1. How do I understand the Book of Matthew? 2. Since the Scriptures testify that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is a mystery, how do I know what the real message is in the Book of Matthew? 3. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is written in parables. Therefore, what technique can I use to find the real meanings and messages in the Book of Matthew? 4. How can I know that I have found the right message? 5. What are the spiritual themes, topics, and doctrines in the Book of Matthew, how do I locate them, and how do I understand them? 6. How many doctrines altogether did Jesus Christ teach in His 3-year Ministry? Those were the questions that prompted this book – Thematic Dictionary of Matthew – Intralingual Translation of Spiritual Themes. In the process, we developed 188 chapters in answers to all those questions. The first five chapters were devoted to academic and theoretical fundamentals that support the research carried out in this book, and they were mostly reproduced from my other published books as referenced at the beginning of each chapter. This has been a qualitative research in as much as it aligns with a Biblical constructivist paradigm of re-interpreting Scripture in a way that impacts spiritual and redemptive thought. We approached this research with methodical data collection from the Book of Matthew. In fact, we did a verse by verse reading and analysis of Matthew followed by an in-depth critical analyses of Scripture and hypotheses, using both inductive and deductive reasoning in the process whereby, if Christians will verify and yield to the teachings contained in this book, their spiritual life would greatly advance to the acknowledgment of the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Book of Matthew. The research in this book also draws from two research methods: (1) Constructive Research methods, using the Perfect Harmony Theory of Translation and Interpreting (Pryce, 2011), by which we developed solutions to some 1,774 Scripture questions on multiple platforms, producing some 7,000 plus pages of Scripture Research, Bible Commentary, and other Christian books in the process. The full list of all my 99 books are listed at the end of this book. The second research method used in this book is the Empirical Research by which we tested the feasibility of the Perfect Harmony Theory for Translation and Interpreting (Pryce, 2011) to discover scriptural solutions to relevant questions.
