Book Competitiveness Of Nations 1 The Navigating The Us china Trade War And The Covid 19 Global Pandemic

Download or read book Competitiveness Of Nations 1 The Navigating The Us china Trade War And The Covid 19 Global Pandemic written by Dong-sung Cho and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2022-05-25 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the existing reports on national competitiveness and rankings such as IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook and WEF Global Competitiveness Report, there are sizable discrepancies in the ranking order for the same countries. As a result, the reader is often confused because such an outcome creates difficulties for government officials when translating these findings into real-world policies. These discrepancies are actually due to the differences in logic and analytical models used by IMD and WEF. Therefore, in recognizing the problems and limitations of these models, this book presents the IPS model as a new approach. As an extension of Michael Porter's diamond model, it demonstrates a robust set of methodologies as well as offers a number of key policy implications for countries around the world that wish to enhance their national competitiveness. The analytical tools used in this book can be further utilized for other units of analysis such as industries and firms. As this book provides a series of sophisticated methodologies and specific guidelines for enhancing national competitiveness, both academics and practitioners can derive useful implications from this research. Alongside the theoretical frameworks and methodologies for national competitiveness presented in this book, timely topics are included such as the COVID-19 global pandemic and the US-China trade war. This book also includes various country-specific real-world cases that are assessed from the perspective of both developed and developing countries.

Book China Trade War and Pandemic

Download or read book China Trade War and Pandemic written by Tony Pow and published by . This book was released on 2020-05-05 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses two current events affecting China and U.S.: trade war and the pandemic of 2020. These two major events are changing the world. It could lead to a prolonged, global recession or even a new cold war. This book includes several of my books in one.Book "Pandemic of 2020". Besides many deaths, the pandemic of 2020 could cause a long-term recession. It also indicates how much we depend on China for the supply of medical supplies and drug active ingredients. Most likely for luck but with good reasons, I predicted correctly that a disaster would happen in China as reported in my article "Disasters in 2020" that was published in August, 2019. The second prediction has not happened yet, but it has more impact to our economy. The third prediction: China would not agree to pay for the damages of this pandemic and that would lead to the freezing of their debts to us (1.07 T as of Dec., 2019). Eventually it would lead to a military war. I hope it would not happen.Book "Trade War with China". The root cause of the trade war is stopping China to replace us as the leading country. The trade war could lead to complete decoupling and the worst to a military war. There are many catalysts such as the current pandemic (asking China for damages), invasion of Taiwan and conflicts in S.E. Asia.We have to identify our weaknesses before we can fix them. I provide a suggestion to fix it.Sometimes the news reported by the media needs to be further evaluated. The recent example is Bolivia's uprising. It has to be aided by our government to limit China's access to lithium. Have the media told us the truth? You may not agree with most of my opinions. Do challenge them. We need more thinkers than followers. Human nature is agreeing with the ideas to support their original thinking, and that's why we do not want to listen to the other side of the story. There are pro-Chinese views and also views by Chinese bashers. I hope my book is in the middle. With the daily bombarding by our pro-U.S. media, I hope to present a balance view. I was born in Hong Kong and U.S. is my adopted country. My yellow face 'betrayed' me, but I am proud to be a Chinese American. I am naturally biased. Hence, do not be offended if I go too far to defend China. This trade war and any conflict with China hurt me. Currently, China suffers far worse than us. So far, I have donated all my book profits to charities. My personal welfare is tied with U.S. I have no affiliation with Chinese government and I have not received any compensation from China. This book is dedicated to all the essential workers especially the medical staffs. Many opinions in this book are from many sources. Most sources from the established U.S. and EU media such as BBC, DW and Economist are less biased. I find CGTN, an English-speaking, Chinese TV network is informative and not too propaganda. So is RT network from YouTube. I also selected and translated from Cantonese on many YouTube videos such as Mr. Gold B Gor and Mr. Albert Ip. They do represent a lot of knowledge from Hong Kong that may not be available to the Western audience. There are so many gray areas today that no one can claim s/he is always right. I have nothing against U.S. From the research of this book, I did find out several incidents that harm our image, reputation and our future. I am neutral in politics. I comment against current government as I want them to serve us better.Size: 275 pages (6*9)Initial: 05/04/2020.Last update: 06/2020.

Book Healthcare Products Trade and External Shocks

Download or read book Healthcare Products Trade and External Shocks written by Mia Mikić and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2019 and the early months of 2020, global trade faced two major albeit very different shocks, namely the United States-China trade war and the cascading response of the countries around the world to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the former situation involved a pair of centrally-placed trading partners introducing tariffs and retaliatory measures across a broad swathe of tradeables that made a global trade environment highly unpredictable, the latter has seen entire production networks and supply value chains debilitated and transactions across the borders halted. This paper examines the trade impacts of these two external shocks from the perspective of the healthcare sector. The paper also analyses likely impacts of the trade tensions on the healthcare sector and the economy at large through secondary impacts on, for example, adoption rates of key technologies. We find that the trade war has led to an increase in tariffs that face several upstream inputs, such as active pharmaceutical ingredients, as well as technological components including those required for 5G adoption. While the COVID-19 policy responses based on the "Great Lockdown" have led to immediate short-term disruptions in the supply and trade of critical healthcare products, in the mid- and long-term, we posit that certain changes in consumption patterns may emerge in response and impact trade patterns. The paper draws attention to harmful effects of export restrictions and calls for a coordinated collective action in building back more robust and resilient ecosystems including in the healthcare sector.

Book China Trade War and Pandemic Concise Version

Download or read book China Trade War and Pandemic Concise Version written by Tony Pow and published by . This book was released on 2020-09-24 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the concise version. The original book has 400 pages (6*9) and it represents a view very different from most Americans, Chinese bashers and Chinese supporters. It represents the views of most overseas Chinese that you may find interesting and more unbiased. We hope to be as unbiased as possible. China is rising and U.S. is falling. All empires have risen and fallen and it is a historical fact. We replaced the British Empire as explained in my book (treated them as major sections in this book) in "The fall of an empire: U.S.A.". With the suggested fixes, I wish it would never or take longer time to fall.China could be our competitor as described in my books (as part of this book) "Understanding China" and "Can China say no".Our trade war with China is described in the book with the same title. The root cause of the trade war is stopping China to replace us as the leading country of the world. The trade war could lead to complete decoupling and the worst to a military war. There are many catalysts such as the current pandemic (asking China for damages), invasion of Taiwan and conflicts in S.E. Asia. Most likely for luck but with good reasons, I predicted correctly that a disaster would happen in China as written in August, 2019 in my article "Disasters in 2020" in Book 6. The second prediction has not happened yet, but it has more impact to our economy and our investments. The third prediction: China would not agree to pay for the damages of this pandemic and that would lead to the freezing of their debts to us (1.07 T as of Dec., 2019). Eventually it would lead to a military war. I hope it would never happen.Global economies would not be good in the next few years. The affecting factors of wars are oil, change of globalization and reserve currency. As of August, 2020, the market is making records due to the reckless printing of USD. It will end eventually with heavy national debts and the market will crash. The main objective of this book is hopefully reducing the military conflict between U.S. and China.Size: 110 pages (6*9).Initial date: 10/2020.

Book The Impact of the Trade War and COVID 19 on China s Foreign Trade

Download or read book The Impact of the Trade War and COVID 19 on China s Foreign Trade written by Abderrahmane Moukadiri and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the trade war, China's foreign trade experienced significant disruptions as tariffs and trade restrictions were imposed. Studies indicate that the trade diversion effect led to a reconfiguration of global value chains, with some countries seeking alternative suppliers to mitigate the impact of tariffs. China responded by shifting its export focus from low-end to high-end manufacturing, aiming to enhance its competitiveness in the global market. The COVID-19 pandemic further impacted China's foreign trade, leading to disruptions in supply chains and dampened demand worldwide. Digital trade and e-commerce emerged as significant drivers of China's foreign trade during the pandemic. With lockdown measures and restrictions on physical movement, online platforms and cross-border e-commerce gained prominence, facilitating trade transactions and expanding market access for Chinese exporters.Trade is at the heart of China's economic growth and development. It underpins its global competitiveness and plays an important role in advancing supply-side reform. In response to the trade war and the evolving global trade landscape, China implemented various trade policies and reforms. These measures aimed to stimulate domestic consumption, foster innovation, and promote high-quality development of foreign trade. Tariff adjustments, import facilitation, and export promotion were among the policy tools employed.China is the most important market for international trade, furthermore, its importance has increased significantly over time. This abstract highlights the importance of studying China's foreign trade dynamics in the post-trade war and post-COVID-19 era. It underscores the need for further research to comprehensively assess the long-term implications of these events and their impact on China's trade performance, competitiveness, and position in the global economy.

The book assesses four main waves of challenges to free trade and open society: the COVID-19 pandemic, the US–China trade war, economic nationalism, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. While some of these challenges have been casting their shadows on the global economic system for some time, others are relatively novel, and their full effects are yet to be seen. Book A Trade War and a Pandemic

Download or read book A Trade War and a Pandemic written by Misty Blessley and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supply chain turbulence has become the new normal and understanding supply chain resilience is essential for business-to-business firms. Building on dynamic capabilities theory, we examine three literature gaps on supply chain resilience: resource reconfiguration during high impact disruptions; resilience across multiple supply chain levels; and resilience when government is involved. The food bank supply chain is examined during the turbulence of 2018-2020 from the U.S.-China trade war and COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the trade war, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) shifted agricultural commodities intended for exports to food banks, creating scale and scope supply shocks, and this was followed by food demand and supply shocks from the pandemic. In-depth interviews were conducted with supply chain members, from farmers to processing firms to food banks. Qualitative analysis provides detailed insights on three stages of supply chain resilience: anticipating, adapting and responding, and recovery and learning. Our qualitative analysis shows that the responses to the trade war built resilience during the pandemic by leveraging dynamic capabilities, frugal innovation, social capital, and public/private partnerships. From the specific insights for food banks emerged broader insights for business-to-business markets, in the form of twelve propositions for building supply chain resilience to high impact disruptions.

Book East Asia Decouples from the United States

Download or read book East Asia Decouples from the United States written by Peter A. Petri and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This paper examines the quantitative dimensions of “economic distancing” in the Asia-Pacific. It uses a computable general equilibrium model to analyze key results of the Trump era: the US-China trade war, RCEP, and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement on Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), a second major accord, concluded in 2018. It does not directly estimate the effects of COVID-19 but does contrast the implications of two long-term trade scenarios— business as before Trump and a sustained US-China trade war—the latter of which has become far more likely because of the pandemic. Despite a history of political tensions in East Asia, these trends will deepen economic integration among China, Japan, and Korea, building on their already substantial production networks. The losers will be the United States and India, in economics as well as strategic influence in the region."--Abstract.

Book The China U S Trade War and Future Economic Relations

Download or read book The China U S Trade War and Future Economic Relations written by Lawrence J. Lau and published by The Chinese University Press. This book was released on 2018-12-14 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relation between China and the United States is arguably the most important bilateral relation in the world today. The U.S. and China are respectively the largest and the second largest economies in the world. They are also respectively the largest and the second largest trading nations in the world as well as each other’s most important trading partner. If China and the U.S. work together as partners towards a common goal, many things are possible. However, there exist significant friction and potential conflict in their economic relations. The large and persistent U.S.-China bilateral trade deficit is one of the problems. It is essential to know the true state of the China-U.S. trade balance before effective solutions can be devised to narrow the trade surplus or deficit. The impacts and potential impacts of the 2018 trade war between China and the U.S. on the two economies are analysed and discussed. The longterm forces that underlie the economic relations between the two countries beyond the 2018 trade war are examined. In this connection, how a “new type of major-power relation” between the two countries can help to keep the competition friendly and avert a war between them is explored. ~~~~~~~~ Lawrence J. Lau’s timely The China-U.S. Trade War and Future Economic Relations is full of careful analysis, penetrating insight and helpful suggestions from the world’s preeminent economist on this relationship. —Michael J. Professor Lau is the ideal person to write about the implications of the China-U.S. trade war and the proposed resolution. —Tung Chee-Hwa Vice-Chairman, Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee Chairman, China-U.S. Exchange Foundation The history of Sino-American relations, to a great extent, has been a shared history. Book excerpt: Trade Crash is a multi-media Primer written for the general public, not for economic or legal scholars. As a combination of text and video links, it is a "BookVid." It provides an overview of the history of trade wars, the evolution of the global trading system, the fissures in this system caused by the aggressive trade policies of the Trump Administration and the fractures in this system caused by the Global Slowdown resulting from the Coronavirus (also referred to as "CV-19" or "Covid-19") Pandemic. To put this in its proper perspective, we have asked an old friend and colleague, Andy Hendry, to write the following Prologue. It is entitled "How Globalization Failed Us and How Can it be Saved?" Andy's career has encompassed senior positions in international trade, including metal, high tech and personal product manufacturing and distribution. He is uniquely qualified to comment on the supply chain disruptions that have plagued the international trading system.
