Book A trade off optimization model of environment impact and manufacturing cost for machining parts

Download or read book A trade off optimization model of environment impact and manufacturing cost for machining parts written by Lei Zhang and published by OAE Publishing Inc.. This book was released on 2024-03-21 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motivation: Throughout the life cycle, the environmental impact and manufacturing costs of a part are largely determined at the design stage. Therefore, a part design optimization method considering these two factors is proposed in this paper. At the same time, the comprehensive benefit is taken as the trade-off of these two factors. The reduction of the comprehensive benefit indicates that the optimized part has achieved better environmental and economic performance results. Methods: Firstly, the model is reconstructed using the dimension-driven method, and the feature information of the new part is extracted. Then, machining process planning is carried out based on the feature information. Secondly, a design optimization model for the comprehensive benefit is established based on the genetic algorithm. The model takes the dimension parameters of the part as the optimization variables and the reduction of the comprehensive benefit as the optimization objective. With the help of the Simulation plug-in for SolidWorks, the static analysis of the optimized model is conducted to determine whether it meets the performance requirements. Finally, the design optimization prototype system oriented to comprehensive benefit is established. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are verified by taking the intermediate shaft of the belt conveyor reducer-sixth order step shaft as an example. Results: The case study shows that the optimization result of comprehensive benefit is 1.63%, which verifies the feasibility and effectiveness of the part design optimization method proposed in this paper.

Book Methods for Measuring Greenhouse Gas Balances and Evaluating Mitigation Options in Smallholder Agriculture

Download or read book Methods for Measuring Greenhouse Gas Balances and Evaluating Mitigation Options in Smallholder Agriculture written by Todd S. Rosenstock and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-23 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides standards and guidelines for quantifying greenhouse gas emissions and removals in smallholder agricultural systems and comparing options for climate change mitigation based on emission reductions and livelihood trade-offs. Globally, agriculture is directly responsible for about 11% of annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and induces an additional 17% through land use change, mostly in developing countries. Farms in the developing countries of sub-Saharan Africa and Asia are predominately managed by smallholders, with 80% of land holdings smaller than ten hectares. However, little to no information exists on greenhouse gas emissions and mitigation potentials in smallholder agriculture. Greenhouse gas measurements in agriculture are expensive, time consuming, and error prone, challenges only exacerbated by the heterogeneity of smallholder systems and landscapes. Concerns over methodological rigor, measurement costs, and the diversity of approaches, coupled with the demand for robust information suggest it is germane for the scientific community to establish standards of measurements for quantifying GHG emissions from smallholder agriculture. Standard guidelines for use by scientists, development organizations will help generate reliable data on emissions baselines and allow rigorous comparisons of mitigation options. The guidelines described in this book, developed by the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture, and Food Security (CCAFS) and partners, are intended to inform anyone conducting field measurements of agricultural greenhouse gas sources and sinks, especially to develop IPCC Tier 2 emission factors or to compare mitigation options in smallholder systems.

Book Glocalized Solutions for Sustainability in Manufacturing

Download or read book Glocalized Solutions for Sustainability in Manufacturing written by Jürgen Hesselbach and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-03-19 with total page 699 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 18th CIRP International Conference on Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) 2011 continues a long tradition of scientific meetings focusing on the exchange of industrial and academic knowledge and experiences in life cycle assessment, product development, sustainable manufacturing and end-of-life-management. The theme “Glocalized Solutions for Sustainability in Manufacturing” addresses the need for engineers to develop solutions which have the potential to address global challenges by providing products, services and processes taking into account local capabilities and constraints to achieve an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable society in a global perspective. Glocalized Solutions for Sustainability in Manufacturing do not only involve products or services that are changed for a local market by simple substitution or the omitting of functions. Products and services need to be addressed that ensure a high standard of living everywhere. Resources required for manufacturing and use of such products are limited and not evenly distributed in the world. Locally available resources, local capabilities as well as local constraints have to be drivers for product- and process innovations with respect to the entire life cycle. The 18th CIRP International Conference on Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) 2011 serves as a platform for the discussion of the resulting challenges and the collaborative development of new scientific ideas.
