Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jack Norvel could have lived a normal life but for his one hang up, he could not let go of his past. It was not that he had committed terrible acts; it was the self-demonizing thoughts that ruined his life. His suffering with depression from his late teens, and not being able to take anti-depressants, led to a life that was endured - not lived. He would have lived out his life in this manner had it not been for a more than chance meeting with a stranger early one morning while he was on one of his walks. Just the presence of the stranger seemed to drain all the melancholy from his being. The soft-spoken visitor wanted to know all about the four events in his life that had shaped his existence, even though, as it turned out, he already knew. Don, as Jack came to know his new friend, was there to make him an offer; an offer that would cancel out all those experiences that had so devastated his life. It would have been easy to accept the offer had it not been for the cost... the very high cost.

  • Pages : 789 pages

Download or read book Meri s Turn in Time written by Kathleen Ann Emmett and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-01-24 with total page 789 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meri grew up under the wide Montana sky on a small farm near the Canadian border milking cows, feeding chickens, and listening to her brother's tales of the stars and starlore. But as graduation loomed near, she began to regard the figures on the celestial carousel with the sentimentality of a forgotten toy and became increasingly uneasy with her expected entry into a university. She had too many questions, questions that sitting in a classroom wouldn't answer. She needed to find some solid truths, truths she could pound against and they wouldn't crumble. She was determined to seek them out. Leaving for the west coast, Meri and her best friend Christine end up moving in with Rex, an old environmental warrior who takes them to an old growth forest, shares the tools of activism, and to Meri's surprise, aspires to the same mindset of putting all on the line for a meaningful life. Soon she finds work at a state agency, starts taking classes, and joins protests. But she's still strangely comforted when, glancing up, she makes out familiar figures in that ancient ring of myths encircling the earth. She imagines that as ancient sky watchers mapped the path of the sun in the night sky, they wove tales of their movements and their own lore into the stars. And as she begins to relate to the tales of guardianship and farming, balance, and wildlife and so many others, she begins to find a true purpose and a path for this, her turn in time.

On a boat with friends off the Florida coast, she tries to fight her feelings of discontent with steel will and hard liquor. No one even notices as she gets up and goes to the diving board and dives off... Suddenly Ramie is waking up, straining to understand a voice calling in the distance...It's her mother: "Wake up! You're going to be late for school again. I'm not writing a note this time..." Ramie finds herself back on the eve of her eighteenth birthday, with a second chance to see the people she's lost and change the choices she regrets. How did she get back here? Has she gone off the deep end? Is she really back in time? Above all, she'll have to answer the question that no one else can: What it is that she really wants from the past, and for her future?

Book Time Literature and Cartography After the Spatial Turn

Download or read book Time Literature and Cartography After the Spatial Turn written by Adam Barrows and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-01 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Time, Literature and Cartography after the Spatial Turn argues that the spatial turn in literary studies has the unexplored potential to reinvigorate the ways in which we understand time in literature. Drawing on new readings of time in a range of literary narratives, including Vladimir Nabokov’s Ada and James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake, Adam Barrows explores literature’s ability to cartographically represent the dense and tangled rhythmic processes that constitute lived spaces. Applying the insights of ecological resilience studies, as well as Henri Lefebvre’s late work on rhythm to literary representations of time, this book offers a sustained examination of literature’s “chronometric imaginary”: its capacity to map the temporal relationships between the human and the non-human, the local and the global.

Book The Turn of Moore s Law from Space to Time

Download or read book The Turn of Moore s Law from Space to Time written by Liming Xiu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-24 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book states that a space-induced crisis is recognized as the cause of trouble that Moore’s Law is currently facing. The contemporary practice of this empirical law can be considered as happening within a space-dominant paradigm. An alternative of exploiting potential in the dimension of time is identified as an emerging paradigm in microelectronics. The new practice is termed a time-oriented paradigm. It is justified as the turn of Moore’s Law from space to time. The resultant Time-Moore strategy is envisioned as the next-generation enabler for continuing Moore’s Law’s pursuit of everhigher information processing power and efficiency. It also serves as the perpetuation of the spirit that Moore’s law is nothing but a collective storied history of innovations. In the first part of this book, by following Thomas Kuhn’s seminal work around the concepts of paradigm and scientific revolution, the argument for the Time-Moore strategy (Time-Moore: to use time more) and the paradigm shift from space to time is carried out heavily through philosophical persuasion rather than technical proof due to the difficult challenge of change-of-mindset. The second part of the book provides solid technical materials for supporting this transition from the old paradigm to the new one. In short, the goal of this book is to reevaluate the contemporary practice of microelectronics, identify the cause of the current crisis, advocate a change-of-mindset to circumvent the crisis, and ultimately point out a new route for advancing. After achieving so many unprecedented accomplishments through several decades of relentless endeavor, it’s time for the big ship of Moore’s Law (i.e., the art of microelectronic system design) to make a turn.
