Book The Mechanics of Fluid Particle Systems with Special Reference to Agriculture

Download or read book The Mechanics of Fluid Particle Systems with Special Reference to Agriculture written by R. H. Macmillan and published by UoM Custom Book Centre. This book was released on 2010 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph and the associated computer program are concerned with the prediction of the trajectory of particles moving relative to fluids. The program is quite general and can be used to plot the trajectory of 'any' particle moving relative to 'any' fluid. However it cannot allow for particle spin or analyse three dimensional problems. The monograph, which assumes a 2nd year level of engineering science, is written particularly for professional agricultural engineering courses but may be of interest in the study of equivalent subjects for chemical or other engineers. It could also form the basis for short courses for practising engineers.

Book Introduction to Particle Technology

Download or read book Introduction to Particle Technology written by Martin J. Rhodes and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-05-16 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INTRODUCTION TO PARTICLE TECHNOLOGY A new edition of the indispensable guide to particulates and powders Particle technology concerns the formation, processing and properties of the particles and powders which make up many of the products that surround us. Such products range from the cement and aggregate in the built environment to pharmaceuticals and processed foods. Most of the process industries involve particles, either as essential components such as catalysts or as intermediate or final products, and minerals such as the rare earths that are generally mined and processed in particulate form. Particles can have many beneficial uses but they can also cause harm in the environment and, through inhalation, to the individual. In all cases, the powder properties, particularly particle size, are crucially important. This well-known textbook, now in its 3rd edition, provides an easily-understood introduction to the underlying scientific principles of particle technology, together with examples of how these principles can be used in practical design and operation of industrial processes. Each chapter contains both worked examples and exercises for the student. Based on feedback from students and users of the earlier editions, this revised and expanded text includes introductory chapters on particles as products and on computational methods. The topics have been selected to give coverage of the broad areas of particle technology and include: Characterization (size analysis, surface area) Processing (granulation, fluidization) Particle formation (granulation, crystallisation, tableting, size reduction) Storage and transport (hopper design, pneumatic conveying, standpipes) Separation (filtration, settling, cyclones) Safety (fire and explosion hazards, health hazards) Engineering the properties of particulate systems to achieve desired product performance Discrete element modelling of particulate systems Introduction to Particle Technology, 3rd Edition is essential reading for students of chemical engineering. The text is also recommended reading for students of mechanical engineering, applied chemistry, pharmaceutics, physics, mineral processing, and metallurgy, and is an excellent source for practising engineers and scientists looking to establish a working knowledge of the subject.

Book Prepositions and Particles in English

Download or read book Prepositions and Particles in English written by Elizabeth M. O'Dowd and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1998 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elizabeth M. O'Dowd offers a new, discourse-functional account of the categories "preposition" and "particle" in English. She explains why certain words have membership in both categories, and solves many intriguing puzzles long associated with the syntax and semantics of these words. Based on linguistic data extracted from a series of actual conversations, O'Dowd provides new insights into how prepositions and particles are used, and how their meanings can change across different discourse contexts over time.

Book Probability and Statistics for Particle Physics

Download or read book Probability and Statistics for Particle Physics written by Carlos Maña and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-21 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprehensively presents the basic concepts of probability and Bayesian inference with sufficient generality to make them applicable to current problems in scientific research. The first chapter provides the fundamentals of probability theory that are essential for the analysis of random phenomena. The second chapter includes a full and pragmatic review of the Bayesian methods that constitute a natural and coherent framework with enough freedom to analyze all the information available from experimental data in a conceptually simple manner. The third chapter presents the basic Monte Carlo techniques used in scientific research, allowing a large variety of problems to be handled difficult to tackle by other procedures. The author also introduces a basic algorithm, which enables readers to simulate samples from simple distribution, and describes useful cases for researchers in particle physics. The final chapter is devoted to the basic ideas of Information Theory, which are important in the Bayesian methodology. This highly readable book is appropriate for graduate-level courses, while at the same time being useful for scientific researches in general and for physicists in particular since most of the examples are from the field of Particle Physics.

Book Materials Matter Particles

Download or read book Materials Matter Particles written by M. M. Woolfson and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book traces the history of ideas about the nature of matter and also the way that mankind has used material resources that the world offers. Starting with the ideas of ancient civilizations that air, earth, fire and water were the basic ingredients of all matter, it traces the development of the science of chemistry beginning within the ranks of the alchemists. First, the idea of elements grew and then the atomic nature of matter was verified. Physicists had entered the scene, showing the nature of atoms in terms of fundamental particles and then introducing the concept of wave-particle duality that altered the basic concepts of what matter was. Finally the physicists discovered a panoply of fundamental particles, some observed within atom-smashing machines and the existence of others merely postulated. In parallel with the above there is a description of various kinds of matter as it affects everyday life OCo including the nature of matter associated with life itself. The way that early man used the materials directly given by nature, such as stone, wood and animal skins, is followed by the use of materials requiring some process to be employed OCo e.g. metals which include bronze and also concrete. Some important modern materials are discussed, such as synthetic fibres and plastics and semiconductors, and potentially important future products from new developments in nanotechnology. Sample Chapter(s). Chapter 1: Introduction (35 KB). Contents: The Elements of Nature; Early Ideas of the Nature of Matter; The Quest for Gold and Eternal Life; The Beginning of Chemistry; Modern Chemistry is Born; Nineteenth Century Chemistry; Atoms Have Structure; Radioactivity and the Plum-Pudding Model; Some Early 20th Century Physics; What is a Nucleus Made of?; Electrons in Atoms; The New Mechanics; Electrons and Chemistry; Electron Spin and the Exclusion Principle; Isotopes; Radioactivity and More Particles; Making Atoms, Explosions and Power; Observing Matter on a Small Scale; Living Matter; Life at the Atomic Level; Materials from Ancient Times; Modern Materials; The Fantastic World of Particles; How Matter Began; Making Heavier Elements. Book The Ancient Wisdom of Tamil

Download or read book The Ancient Wisdom of Tamil written by Srikanth s and published by Srikanth s. This book was released on with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The wisdom of ancient Tamils revealed for the first time through an analysis of charts. A 3 million years old define decline science of ancient Tamils revealed for the first time. The Greatness of Tamil is because of its past. Our ancients hid a Wisdom base behind every alphabet of Tamil, which is not available to the public until now. The author was able to intuit the hidden wisdom of ancients at the feet of his Guru Vadivelu Maharaj of Ranikhet. The entire work is orated by him to the author who used an old manual typewriter to bring life to his words. The ancients had coined an ever 'Moli'- define decline condense of every Wisdom within the thirty alphabets coin Tamil, as a set line instruct, than using language as a medium to express relativities. Nature had preserved The TAMIL language at its original purity, as it is its ever seed manifest of the past, to be sown in the present, to fruit to a potential future. When the whole world had changed in one way or another, either by religion, language or tradition, by time and circumstances, why ONLY the Tamils have everything to their VERY origin from time immemorial, to a code culture, custom, to a science that can prove an enlight depth superior to any modern developments. To a philosophical insight, there must be an optimism beyond it.

Book The Nature and Growth of Modern Mathematics

Download or read book The Nature and Growth of Modern Mathematics written by Edna Ernestine Kramer and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 1982 with total page 790 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now available in a one-volume paperback, this book traces the development of the most important mathematical concepts, giving special attention to the lives and thoughts of such mathematical innovators as Pythagoras, Newton, Poincare, and Godel. Beginning with a Sumerian short story--ultimately linked to modern digital computers--the author clearly introduces concepts of binary operations; point-set topology; the nature of post-relativity geometries; optimization and decision processes; ergodic theorems; epsilon-delta arithmetization; integral equations; the beautiful "ideals" of Dedekind and Emmy Noether; and the importance of "purifying" mathematics. Organizing her material in a conceptual rather than a chronological manner, she integrates the traditional with the modern, enlivening her discussions with historical and biographical detail.

Book Norwegian Verb Particles

Download or read book Norwegian Verb Particles written by Leiv Inge Aa and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2020-08-15 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to explain the syntax and semantics of Norwegian verb particles. While particles have been claimed to be distributed optionally to the left (as LPrt) or right (as RPrt) of an associated DP in the linguistic literature, the dialectologically oriented literature has shown for a long time that many Norwegian particles are preferred as LPrt (corresponding to English ‘throw out the dog’). While spatial particles can appear in both positions, non-spatial particles primarily appear as LPrt. A complex predicate analysis is adopted for non-spatial particles, and a small clause analysis for spatial particles. It is argued that a non-spatial LPrt construction triggers an atelic reading, and the RPrt counterpart identifies a result state. The book combines traditional dialectology with modern linguistic theories and includes much Norwegian data that has not been shed theoretical light on before: simplex and complex spatial and non-spatial constructions, phrasal particles, ground promotion, and unaccusatives. Several earlier theoretical accounts of Norwegian particles are reviewed in a separate chapter.

Book Particle or Wave

    Book Details:
  • Author : Charis Anastopoulos
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2020-12-08

Download or read book Particle or Wave written by Charis Anastopoulos and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2020-12-08 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Particle or Wave is the first popular-level book to explain the origins and development of modern physical concepts about matter and the controversies surrounding them. The dichotomy between particle and wave reflects a dispute--whether the universe's most elementary building blocks are discrete or continuous in nature--originating in antiquity when philosophers first speculated about the makeup of the physical world. Charis Anastopoulos examines two of the earliest known theories about matter--the atomic theory, which attributed all physical phenomena to atoms and their motion in the void, and the theory of the elements, which described matter as consisting of the substances earth, air, fire, and water. He then leads readers up through the ages to the very frontiers of modern physics to reveal how these seemingly contradictory ideas still lie at the heart of today's continuing debates. Anastopoulos explores the revolutionary contributions of thinkers like Nicolas Copernicus, Isaac Newton, and Albert Einstein. He shows how Einstein's ideas about relativity unify opposing concepts by identifying matter with energy, and how quantum mechanics goes even further by postulating the coexistence of the particle and the wave descriptions. Anastopoulos surveys the latest advances in physics on the fundamental structure of matter, including the theories of quantum fields and elementary particles, and new cutting-edge ideas about the unification of all forces. This book reveals how the apparent contradictions of particle and wave reflect very different ways of understanding the physical world, and how they are pushing modern science to the threshold of new discoveries.
