Download or read book The Ocean of Theosophy Classic Reprint written by William Q. Judge and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-04-22 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Ocean of Theosophy N attempt is made in the pages of this book 2 to write of Theosophy in such a manner as to be understood by the ordinary reader. Bold statements are made in it upon the knowledge of the writer, but at the same time it is distinctly to be understood that he alone is responsi ble for what is therein written: the Theosophical' Society is not involved in nor bound by anything said in the book, nor are any of its members any the less good Theosophists because they may not accept what he has set down. The tone of settled convie tion which may be thought to pervade the chapters is not the result of dogmatism or conceit, but flows from knowledge 'based upon evidence and experience. Members of the Theosophical Society will notice that certain theories or doctrines have not been gone into. That is because they could not be treated with out unduly extending the book and arousing needless controversy. The subject of the Will has received no treatment, inasmuch as that power or faculty is hidden, subtle, undiscoverable as to essence, and only visible in effect. As it is absolutely colorless and varies in moral qual ity in accordance with the desire behind it, as also it acts frequently without our knowledge, and as it operates in all the kingdoms below man, there could. Be nothing gained by attempting to enquire into it apart from the Spirit and the desire. No originality is claimed for this book. The writer invented none of it, discovered none of it, but has simply written that which he has been taught and which has been proved to him. It therefore is only a handing on of what has been known before. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book A Textbook of Theosophy Classic Reprint written by C. W. Leadbeater and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-19 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Textbook of Theosophy Of those that are yet to come there is also much to be said, and on this subject too a great deal of definite information 1s available. Such information is obtainable, first, from men who have already passed much further along the road of evolution than we, and have consequently direct experience of it; and, secondly, from inferences drawn from the ob vicus direction of the steps which we see to have been previously taken. The goal of this particular cycle, is in sight, though still far above us;-but it would seem that, even when that has been attained, an infinity of progress still lies before everyone who is willing to undertake it. One of the most striking advantages of Theosophy is that the light which it brings to us at once solves many of our problems, clears away many difficulties, accounts for the apparent injustices of life, and in all directions brings order out of seeming chaos. Thus while some of its teaching is based upon the observation of forces whose direct working is some what beyond the ken of the ordinary man of the world, if the latter will accept it as a hypothesis he will very soon come to see that it must be a correct one, because it, and it alone, furnishes a coherent and reasonable explanation of the drama of life which is being played before him. Download or read book Theosophy and New Thought Classic Reprint written by Henry C. Sheldon and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-05 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Theosophy and New Thought The double title given to the book is not meant to imply that Theosophy and New Thought are approximately identical. The inclusion of the two in a Single volume is rather a matter of convenience than of logical clas sification. We recognize that, while they have distinct points of similar ity, they also exhibit quite apparent contrasts in Spirit and content. In particular the intemperate speculation and headlong Orientalism of Theosophy are but partially reflected in New Thought. Both, however, make very high claims, and this fact justifies the subjecting of them to close scrutiny. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elementary Theosophy To comprehend the significance of great World changes, before Time has fully done his work, is difficult. While mighty events are still in their formative period the future is obscure. But our in ability to outline the future cannot blind us to the unmistakable trend of the evolutionary forces at work. One thing that is clear is that our boasted Christian civilization is the theater in which has been staged the most un-christian war of recorded history and in which human atrocity has reached a point that leaves us vaguely groping for a rational explanation of it. Another obvious fact is that the more than twenty nations involved have been forced into measures and methods before unknown and which wholly transform the recognized function and powers of governments. With these startling facts of re ligious and political significance before us thoughtful people are beginning to ask if we are not upon the threshold of a complete breaking down of modern civilization and the birth of a new order of things, in which direct government by the people throughout the entire world will be coincident with the rise of a universal religion based on the brotherhood of man. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Theosophical Miscellanies: Thoughts on the Metaphysics of Theosophy Of course it is in no sense authoritative. It embodies a good deal that is substantially correct, but also a good deal that is more or less erroneous. Many of its arguments are crude and feeble, or clumsily stated, and it is still in many respects, despite much trouble expended in correcting it, palpably Open to adverse criticism. It would, however, be impossible now to im prove it materially without entirely rewriting it, and thus destroying its identity, which would be unfair to its talented and zealous author. But although neither authoritative, nor by any means the last word that has to be said on this vast question, it is eminently suggestive, and will certainly furnish the great bulk of Theosophists with valuable ideas and abundant food for reflection. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Theosophist, 1899, Vol. 20: A Magazine of Oriental Philosophy, Art, Literature and Occultism Among my frequent visitors was Babu Parbati Charan Roy, one of the best educated of Calcutta University graduates, and then holding a position of influence under Government. Like too many of his class, his feeble spiritual belief had been submerged by Western educational influences, and he was a thorough disbeliever in the future state, though always ready to discuss those questions. I am glad to say that his contact with H. P. B. And our literature eventually worked a complete change in his ideas; he became a member of our Society, and some years later published a book giving the history of his repudiation of his ancestral religion, his return to it, and the peace of mind and joy which this brought him'. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Theosophical Manuals, Vol. 15: Theosophy, the Mother of Religions HE remarks under this head are intended to be introductory to each of the Manuals. First, as to the spirit in which they are oi feted. These manuals are not written in a controversial spirit, nor as an addition to the stock of theories awaiting public approval. The writers have no time to waste in arguing with people who do not wish to be convinced, or who ridicule everything which is new to their limited outlook. Their message is for those who desire to know those who are seeking for something that will solve their doubts and remove their difficulties. For such, all that is needed is a clear exposition of the Theosophical teachings; for they will judge of the truth of a teaching by its power to an swer the questions they ask. People realize, much more now than in the early days of the Theosophical Society, the value of Theosophy. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Ancient Wisdom: An Outline of Theosophical Teachings That such men lived it seems difficult to deny in the face of universal tradition, of still existing Scrip tures, and of prehistoric remains for the most part now in ruins, to say nothing of other testimony which the ignorant would reject. The sacred books of the East are the best evidence for the greatness of their authors, for who in later days or in modern times can even approach the spiritual sublimity of their religious thought, the intellectual splendor of their philosophy, the breadth and purity of their ethic? And when we find that these books contain teachings about God, man, and the universe identical in substance under much variety of outer appear ance, it does not seem unreasonable to refer them to a central primary body of doctrine. To that body we give the name of the Divine Wisdom, in its Greek form: theosophy. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Short Lessons in Theosophy Ans. - Theosophy is the master-key of eternity to the under standing of God and man. True Theosophy is a question of spiritual development, of soul revelation, of finding the Christ within, listening to the Divine Logos - the Word. When we can find God within, where both Jesus and Buddha say God resides, we realize our divine nature. Genuine Theosophy is the Christ of this truth rising out of the tomb of error, it is the doc trine of self-control, the crucifixion of the senses, the liberation of the spirit from passion, the resurrection of all that is divine within us. Theosophy is a Spiritual science, it is a knowledge of the eternal true science, to know the Christ, the living Word which speaks from the Infinite Divine Being. The Spirit is resurrected, there is henceforth no more death. The true The os0phist drinks his inspiration from the spiritual air, and knowl edge of the universe becomes to him an open book. We out grow sacerdotalism, we become true priests, our daily sacrifice the daily surrender of the lower to the higher nature.
