Book A Comprehensive Examination of Factors Influencing Auto Ownership Decisions

Download or read book A Comprehensive Examination of Factors Influencing Auto Ownership Decisions written by Mateusz Dolata and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Household auto ownership levels influence travel behavior in a variety of ways, including the number of trips made, the distance traveled to activity locations, and the travel mode chosen. In recent years, significant effort has been placed on designing urban policy strategies with the intended goal of decreasing dependency on automobile travel. Included within these policies has been movement towards principles of new urbanism - urban areas with higher density of development, diversity of land-uses, and design for pedestrian and bicycle modes. This paper attempts to shed light on how a variety of factors, including urban form, impact auto ownership. By knowing which factors truly impact auto ownership decisions, effective policy decisions can be made to impact travel behavior in metropolitan areas. This work examines the impact of explanatory variables through a Multinomial Logit (MNL) model. A MNL model based on San Francisco Bay Area data is developed and the impact of significant explanatory variables on auto ownership is examined. Variables include measures of the urban form and household demographics. This work provides an empirical model that synthesizes the advances made in use of detailed urban form measures together with demographic data describing household characteristics

Book Dimensions of Automobile Demand

Download or read book Dimensions of Automobile Demand written by David A. Hensher and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book is the first attempt to fully integrate automobile ownership (by fleet size and vehicle type) and vehicle use in an intertemporal setting which recognises the durable nature of automobiles using extensive longitudinal panel data on each household (over 5 years). The book presents: the theoretical and econometric development of a joint discrete-continuous choice longitudinal model system of household and automobile ownership and use, bringing together 9 years of research;the application of the model system for the period 1981-1985 in Australia;the forecasting of the model system up to 2020; particular emphasis on the development and application of a longitudinal data base which is unique to the topic - to capture the dynamic (intertemporal) impacts of technological change, life-style change, fuel prices etc. The book not only extends the reader's knowledge of the dimensions of automobile demand but it also adds important new ideas on handling dynamics of choice, as well as new empirical evidence on elasticities of demand for vehicles and vehicle kilometres. Energy and transport planning specialists will find the book essential reading.

Book On the Link Between Urban Form and Automobile Use Evidence from German Survey Data

Download or read book On the Link Between Urban Form and Automobile Use Evidence from German Survey Data written by Colin Vance and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study investigates the influence of urban form on automobile travel using travel-diary data from Germany. Two dimensions of car use are considered: the discrete decision to own a car and the continuous decision of distance traveled. Because these decisions are likely to be influenced by factors unobservable to the researcher, we apply censored regression models to evaluate the role of biases emerging from sample selectivity. Unlike much of the literature, we find that urban form variables are a significant determinant of both automobile ownership and use, a finding that holds even after using instrumental variables to control for endogeneity.

Book Car Ownership Forecasting

Download or read book Car Ownership Forecasting written by E. W. Allanson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1982, this book gives a concise commentary on the development and performance of car ownership prediction procedures and a wide-ranging survey of the modelling techniques associated with forecasting. The book provides a basic appreciation of the key points, whether they are mathematical or otherwise. Throughout the book there is a theme which relates the academic debate surrounding the issue to technical rather than philosophical concepts.
