Book A Theory of Feeding and Growth of Animals

Download or read book A Theory of Feeding and Growth of Animals written by John R Parks and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geoffrey R. Dolby, PhD One of the principal characteristics of a scientific theory is that it be falsifiable. It must contain predictions about the real world which can be put to experimental test. Another very important characteristic of a good theory is that it should take full cognisance of the literature of the discipline in which it is embedded, and that it should be able to explain, at least as well as its competitors, those experimental results which workers in the discipline accept without dispute. Readers of John Parks' book will be left in no doubt that his theory of the feeding and growth of animals meets both of the above criteria. The author's knowledge of the literature of animal science and the seriousness of his attempt to incorporate the results of much previous work into the framework of the present theory result in a rich and imaginative integration of diverse material concerned with the growth and feeding of animals through time, a theory which is made more precise through the judicious use of mathematics. The presentation is such that the key concepts are introduced gradually and readers not accustomed to a mathematical treatment will find that they can appreciate the ideas without undue trauma. The key concepts are clearly illustrated by means of a generous set of figures. The crux of the theory comprises three differential Eqs. (7. 1-7.

Book Animal Nutrition

Download or read book Animal Nutrition written by Philip Hynd and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2019-11-01 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nutrition is the key driver of animal health, welfare and production. In agriculture, nutrition is crucial to meet increasing global demands for animal protein and consumer demands for cheaper meat, milk and eggs and higher standards of animal welfare. For companion animals, good nutrition is essential for quality and length of life. Animal Nutrition examines the science behind the nutrition and feeding of the major domesticated animal species: sheep, beef cattle, dairy cattle, deer, goats, pigs, poultry, camelids, horses, dogs and cats. It includes introductory chapters on digestion and feeding standards, followed by chapters on each animal, containing information on digestive anatomy and physiology, evidence-based nutrition and feeding requirements, and common nutritional and metabolic diseases. Clear diagrams, tables and breakout boxes make this text readily understandable and it will be of value to tertiary students and to practising veterinarians, livestock consultants, producers and nutritionists.

Book Feeding Animals

Download or read book Feeding Animals written by Elliott W. Stewart and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-12 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Feeding Animals: A Practical Work, the Laws of Animal Growth, One Specially Applied to the Rearing and Feeding of Horses, Cattle, Dairy Cows, Sheep and Swine The patronage of the most advanced farmers extended to the previous editions of Feeding Animals has been a very agreeable surprise to the author, and made him feel desirous of rewriting some of the most important chapters of the book, but impaired health has quite prevented this. Yet the typographical errors and errors in analysis have been corrected as far as discovered; and an important addition of twelve pages has been made to the tables of food analyses, made by American chemists, which is likely to be a nearer approximation to American food values than analyses of the same foods made in Europe. Certain combinations of foods are so often made in rations that a short table of such combinations is given, in the hope that it may be found useful. Maize being the most important grain crop raised in this country, some instructive experiments to determine the composition of the different parts of this whole crop is added to this edition. The author believes that this book now contains more precise information upon all topics relating to feeding stock than can be found in any other single publication, and he hopes the same generous appreciation and patronage will be extended to this as to the previous editions.
