Book A Theoretical Analysis of Heat Transfer in Regions of Separated Flow

Download or read book A Theoretical Analysis of Heat Transfer in Regions of Separated Flow written by Dean R. Chapman and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The flow field analyzed consists of a thin, constant pressure, viscous mixing layer separated from a solid surface by an enclosed region of low-velocity air ("dead air"). The law of conservation of energy is employed to relate calculated conditions within the separated mixing layer to the rate of heat transfer at the solid surface. This physical model is applied to laminar separations in compressible flow for various Prandtl numbers, including consideration of the case where air is injected into the separated region. Application to turbulent separations is made for a Prandtl number of unity in low-speed flow without injection. All calculations are for the case of zero boundary-layer thickness at the position of separation.

  • Author : Donatello Annaratone

  • ISBN : 3642039324
  • Pages : 333 pages

Download or read book Engineering Heat Transfer written by Donatello Annaratone and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-03-14 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a generalist textbook; it is designed for anybody interested in heat transmission, including scholars, designers and students. Two criteria constitute the foundation of Annaratone’s books, including the present one. The first one consists of indispensable scientific rigor without theoretical exasperation. The inclusion in the book of some theoretical studies, even if admirable for their scientific rigor, would have strengthened the scientific foundation of this publication, yet without providing the reader with further applicable know-how. The second criterion is to deliver practical solution to operational problems. This criterion is fulfilled through equations based on scientific rigor, as well as a series of approximated equations, leading to convenient and practically acceptable solutions, and through diagrams and tables. When a practical case is close to a well defined theoretical solution, corrective factors are shown to offer simple and correct solutions to the problem.

Book A Theoretical Analysis of Heat Transfer in Regions of Reverse Flow

Download or read book A Theoretical Analysis of Heat Transfer in Regions of Reverse Flow written by R. W. Garvine and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inquiry is made into a fundamental aspect of heat transfer in a laminar flow where separation has induced a reverse or backward moving layer of fluid. A Couette flow model is chosen with linear velocity profile but with a portion of the profile reversed. In this model, the features of simultaneous upstream and downstream convection are retained. Analytical solutions are found for the case of a sinusoidal wall temperature. It is concluded that the convection effect of the reverse layer cannot be ignored in practical cases. (Author).

Book Heat Transfer of Laminar Mixed Convection of Liquid

Download or read book Heat Transfer of Laminar Mixed Convection of Liquid written by De-Yi Shang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-03-08 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a new algorithm to calculate fluid flow and heat transfer of laminar mixed convection. It provides step-by-step tutorial help to learn quickly how to set up the theoretical and numerical models of laminar mixed convection, to consider the variable physical properties of fluids, to obtain the system of numerical solutions, to create a series of formalization equations for the convection heat transfer by using a curve-fitting approach combined with theoretical analysis and derivation. It presents the governing ordinary differential equations of laminar mixed convection, equivalently transformed by an innovative similarity transformation with the description of the related transformation process. A system of numerical calculations of the governing ordinary differential equations is presented for the water laminar mixed convection. A polynomial model is induced for convenient and reliable treatment of variable physical properties of liquids. The developed formalization equations of mixed convection heat transfer coefficient have strong theoretical and practical value for heat transfer applications because they are created based on a better consideration of variable physical properties of fluids, accurate numerical solutions and rigorous formalization equations combined with rigorous theoretical derivation. This book is suitable for scientific researchers, engineers, professors, master and PhD students of fluid mechanics and convection heat and mass transfer.

Book Mixing Length Analysis of Turbulent Thermal Convection at Arbitrary Prandtl Number Classic Reprint

Download or read book Mixing Length Analysis of Turbulent Thermal Convection at Arbitrary Prandtl Number Classic Reprint written by Robert H. Kraichnan and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-11-12 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mixing-Length Analysis of Turbulent Thermal Convection at Arbitrary Prandtl Number Priestley's theory is concerned with statistically steady state turbulent convection in a horizontally infinite layer of fluid. It is assumed that at sufficiently large Rayleigh number most of the change in mean temperature across the layer occurs in thin boundary regions, at the surfaces, where molecular heat con duction and molecular viscosity are dominant. Elsewhere in the fluid, it is assumed that convective heat transport and eddy viscosity are dominant. The theory leads to qualitative predic tions for the total heat transport and for the structure of the mean temperature field, fluctuating temperature field, and velocity field. All of the predicted functional forms and orders of magnitude are independent of Prandtl number. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Theory of Heat Transfer with Forced Convection Film Flows

Download or read book Theory of Heat Transfer with Forced Convection Film Flows written by De-Yi Shang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-12-01 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing a new treatment of ‘Free Convection Film Flows and Heat Transfer’ began in Shang’s first monograph and is continued in this monograph. The current book displays the recent developments of laminar forced convection and forced film condensation. It is aimed at revealing the true features of heat and mass transfer with forced convection film flows to model the deposition of thin layers. The novel mathematical similarity theory model is developed to simulate temperature- and concentration- dependent physical processes. The following topics are covered in this book: 1. Mathematical methods - advanced similarity analysis method to replace the traditional Falkner-Skan type transformation - a novel system of similarity analysis and transformation models to overcome the difficult issues of forced convection and forced film flows - heat and mass transfer equations based on the advanced similarity analysis models and equations formulated with rigorous key numerical solutions 2. Modeling the influence of physical factors - effect of thermal dissipation on forced convection heat transfer - a system of models of temperature and concentration-dependent variable physical properties based on the advanced temperature-parameter model and rigorous analysis model on vapor-gas mixture physical properties for the rigorous and convenient description of the governing differential equations - an available approach to satisfy interfacial matching conditions for rigorous and reliable solutions - a system of numerical results on velocity, temperature and concentration fields, as well as, key solutions on heat and mass transfer - the effect of non-condensable gas on heat and mass transfer for forced film condensation. This way it is realized to conveniently and reliably predict heat and mass transfer for convection and film flows and to resolve a series of current difficult issues of heat and mass transfer with forced convection film flows. Professionals in this fields as well as graduate students will find this a valuable book for their work.

Book Analogy Between Mass and Heat Transfer with Turbulent Flow

Download or read book Analogy Between Mass and Heat Transfer with Turbulent Flow written by Edmund E. Callaghan and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis of combined heat and mass transfer from a flat plate has been made in terms of Prandtl's simpified physical concept of the turbulent boundary layer. The results of the analysis show that tor conditioins of reasonably small heat and mass transfer, the ratio of the mass- and heat-transfer coefficients is dependent on the Reynolds number of the boundary layer, the Prandtl number of the medium of diffusion, and the Schmidt number of the diffusing fluid in the medium of diffusion. For the particular case of water evaporating into air, the ratio of mass-transfer coefficient to heat-transfer coefficient is found to be slightly greater than unity.

Book The Effect of an Arbitrary Surface temperature Variation Along a Flat Plate on the Convective Heat Transfer in an Incompressible Turbulent Boundary Layer

Download or read book The Effect of an Arbitrary Surface temperature Variation Along a Flat Plate on the Convective Heat Transfer in an Incompressible Turbulent Boundary Layer written by Morris W. Rubesin and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis was performed to determine the effects on the rates of convective heat transfer produced by arbitrary variations of the surface temperature with distance along a flat plate. The analysis was confined to the case of a low-speed turbulent boundary layer on a flat plate oriented parallel to the free-stream velocity. It was found that a continuously variable surface temperature has, in general, a smaller effect on the local convective heat transfer than does a surface-temperature discontinuity.
