Book The Theory of Propellers

Download or read book The Theory of Propellers written by Theodore Theodorsen and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: A technical method is given for calculating the axial interference velocity of a propeller. The method involves the use of certain weight functions P, Q, and F. Numerical values for the weight functions are given for two-blade, three-blade, and six-blade propellers.

Book Free space Oscillating Pressures Near the Tips of Rotating Propellers

Download or read book Free space Oscillating Pressures Near the Tips of Rotating Propellers written by Harvey H. Hubbard and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis is presented whereby the free-space oscillating pressures associated with a rotating propeller may be determined at any point in space. This analysis is based on the fundamental Gutin equations without some of the simplifying assumptions. Static tests for several different propellers were conducted in the tip Mach number rang 0.45 to 1.00. Charts are given for estimating free-space pressures for a given propeller. The response of the fuselage to these oscillating pressures is also treated and some factors to be considered in solving the problems of fuselage vibration and noise are indicated.

Book Theoretical Analysis of Cycloidal Propellers

Download or read book Theoretical Analysis of Cycloidal Propellers written by Michael R. Mendenhall and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An inviscid, two dimensional, theoretical analysis was made of a vertical axis propeller in order to predict its performance in a uniform flow. The propeller characteristics required are the number of blades, the blade chord and camber, the propeller radius, and the blade angle variation with angular position of the blade around the propeller disk. The flow condition required is the advance ratio. A detailed description of blade wakes is developed in order to obtain blade-wake interference as related to blade loading, blade angle of attack, blade circulation, and propeller side force, thrust and torque. Average values of propeller forces and torque are predicted.

Book The Theory of Propellers

Download or read book The Theory of Propellers written by Theodore Theodorsen and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: Values of the circulation function have been obtained for dual-rotating propellers. Numerical values are given for four-, eight-, and twelve-blade dual-rotating propellers and for advance ratios from 2 to about 6. In addition, the circulation function has been determined for single-rotating propellers for the higher values of the advance ratio. The mass coefficient, another quantity of significance in propeller theory, has been introduced. This mass coefficient, which is actually the mean value of the circulation coefficient, expresses the effective area of the column of the medium acted upon by the propeller in terms of the propeller-disk area. Values of the mass coefficient, which have been determined directly by special measurements and also by integration of the circulation function, are given for the four-, eight-, and twelve-blade dual-rotating propellers. The mass coefficient has also been determined for several cases of single-rotating propellers, partly for the purpose of comparing such experimental values with theoretical results in the known range of low advance ratios and partly to extend the results to include a range of high advance ratios. The effect of stationary countervanes on the mass coefficient has also been determined for several cases of practical interest.
