Book A Textbook of Nervous Diseases

Download or read book A Textbook of Nervous Diseases written by Robert Bing and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A d104book of Nervous Diseases: For Students and Practicing Physicians; In Thirty Lectures When it was suggested by my publishers that I should write a text-book of nervous diseases adapted to the needs of students and practical physicians; in size between the summary compendiums and outlines and the large refer ence works and handbooks of neurology, I found upon inquiry among my colleagues so general an agreement that such a book was desirable, that I no longer hesitated to undertake its preparation. When I decided to present my material in the form of lectures, it was because of the recollection that in my student days, the reading of text-books in lecture form was to my fellow stu dents and myself like an oasis in the midst of the tiresome work of preparing for examinations. On the other hand, I did not conceal from myself that the systematic arrangement of the material, as compared to its presentation in lectures, had in general the advantage of greater clearness and better adapta tion for quick reference. On this account I have endeavored to combine the advantages of both methods of arrangement, by the introduction of titles, sum maries in tabular form, and recapitulatory headings. I have also laid great stress upon a complete index. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from d104-Book of Nervous Diseases, Vol. 1: For Physicians and Students This translation of the fifth edition of Oppenheim's d104-book of Nervous Diseases has been undertaken with the sanction and by agreement with its distinguished author, in consequence of suggestions made from various quarters that aiwork which holds such a high position in the estimation of those who can read it in its original form should be made more easily accessible to English and American readers. Every endeavour has been made to keep the translation as close as possible to the German text, and to reproduce the meaning of the text exactly and clearly. In conformity with the desire of the author, the work has not been in any way edited. The translator feels sure that the biblio graphical references given in this edition have greatly enhanced the value of the work, and that their addition has more than justified the labour that they must have entailed. The translator has to express his appreciation of the most valuable assistance and collaboration in the work of translation and in the reading of proofs given by Mrs H. M. Orowe, Dr Marian Erskine, Dr J. W. Dawson, Dr W. Kelman Macdonald, Dr J. H. Harvey Pirie, and Mr D. P. D. Wilkie, and also his thanks to Mr Otto Schulze for the great personal interest with which he has supervised the publication of the work. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Text-Book of Nervous Diseases: Being a Compendium for the Use of Students and Practitioners of Medicine In the classification of nervous diseases and the description of their pathology, I have tried to apply the modern knowledge of general pathology as modified by bacteriology. This I have done conservatively, yet not less than in my opinion is absolutely demanded. A good deal of havoc will be wrought eventually in our conception of the nature of nervous diseases by the newer pathological doctrines 1 have made as little change as was con sonant with undeniable facts. Book A Manual of Nervous Diseases Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Manual of Nervous Diseases Classic Reprint written by Irving J. Spear and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 690 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Nervous Diseases The preparation of this volume for the present and for the future general practitioner has been undertaken in the hope that I have been able to embody in a book of moderate size the facts necessary for a proper understanding of the anatomy, the physiology, and the diseases of the nervous system. In my experience as teacher and consultant I have found that the student of medicine, as well as the general practitioner, regards the study of diseases of the nervous system as particularly difficult. This false impression I attribute to a lack of a proper understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system, and of the correct methods of examining nervous patients. This lack of knowledge may be due in some measure to the fact that there is not at present available a moderately brief exposition limited to a description of the practical anatomy and physiology of the nervous system. Such a description, to be useful, must be neither too brief nor too voluminous, but should contain those facts and theories essential to a clear understanding of the mechanism of organic nervous diseases, and it is this deficiency that I have attempted to supply in the first part of this volume. No effort has been made completely to cover the subject of neurology, but I have endeavored to treat it with sufficient fulness to make a comprehension of the salient features of organic nervous diseases easily possible. This I hope further to have facilitated by the aid of illustrations and diagrams, some of which are original, whereas others have been taken from the various text-books on anatomy, physiology, neurology, and kindred subjects, to which due credit has been given. Book Diseases of the Nervous System

Download or read book Diseases of the Nervous System written by Smith Ely Jelliffe and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-12-21 with total page 828 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Diseases of the Nervous System: A Text-Book of Neurology and Psychiatry The diseases of the nervous system are no longer compassed by a description of, the gross lesions of the brain, spinal cord, cranial and peripheral nerves. The more limited symptomatology of disorders of these structures, which in this work has been called sensori - motor neurology, has been expanded in two directions - in one by the increase in our knowledge of the historically oldest portion of the nervous system, namely, the sympathetic and autonomic (vegetative) nervous system and in the other by the increase in our knowledge of the mechanisms that Operate at the psychic or mental levels. The vegetative nervous system is in close functional relations with the endocrinous glands, and, although some of the endocrinopathies may ultimately turn out not to be exclusively nervous affections, still these organs of internal secretion are so closely related from all points of View, embryological, anatomical, physiological, pathological, and pharmacodynamic, with the vegetative nervous system that their dis ordered functions must needs be considered in a work dealing with the diseases of the nervous system. The symptomatology of this region constitutes the borderland of neurology and internal medicine. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
