Download or read book A Taste of Granny Knob written by MBC Women's Ministry and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009-11 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title, Granny Knob, was adopted from Granites' Knob which was located in Lucia, North Carolina off Highway #16 near the granite mine. It was here in an old house where our church members first gathered. This house not only served as a place of worship for church members but also served as a school for children who lived in the area. Our first structure was built in the year of 1919 out of logs from fallen trees due to a bad storm. The church building was dedicated to the glory of God on August 5, 1919. No one really knows how long before this date it was that the first members gathered in fellowship in an old house at Granites' Knob. Each recipe whether handed down from many generations or an original making its' debut is now immortalized in the pages of this book. It will be an asset to the beginning cook as well as for the most experienced. Its many tips and helpful hints will be a benefit to even those who don't consider themselves a cook.

Book excerpt: A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Download or read book Big Food Big Love written by Heather L. Earnhardt and published by Sasquatch Books. This book was released on 2016-09-06 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Featuring over 100 Southern recipes alongside “heartwarming” anecdotes, this cookbook is “a celebration of Southern hospitality, local ingredients and good cooking” (Chef Emeril Lagasse). When Heather Earnhardt opened her tiny, magical café, The Wandering Goose, in Seattle, she infused a little Southern comfort into the heart of a city that’s skies are often gray. Her specialty is biscuits, slathered with butter and homemade jam, piled high with fried chicken and bread-and-butter pickles, or country ham and an over-easy egg. In Big Food Big Love, this “red-dirt girl” shares stories from her childhood in the South and 130 recipes that contain a satisfying mix of nostalgic and traditional Southern favorites. Served up with a side of Southern charm, this is genuinely good and unfussy food that’s meant to be eaten with family and friends.
