Book A Tale Of Two Sisters a Wedding and a Birth

Download or read book A Tale Of Two Sisters a Wedding and a Birth written by Sandra Houser-Montgomery and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-01-24 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a mother/wedding professional, Sandra tells how she went from stressing over not being in two places at one time to regaining her inner peace. Through songs of inspiration, Scripture, a little humor, and dozens of practical tips on wedding planning and getting through a stressful situation, she shows the way to anyone who does not have a personal relationship with God. In all her years of attending church service, she never once recalls hearing a sermon about God's sense of humor; He must have one because of the many minor issues that she experienced. This book is intended to make the reader laugh and/or provoke thought while, in retrospect, make a difference in the lives of others. Our lives are filled with lots of uncertainty. In these pages you will get the sense that a personal relationship with God begins today, and it begins the moment we realize our need for Him. We cannot predict that what we have planned is actually going to turn out the way we planned it even though we hire professionals to make it so. But if we could slow down the pace, thereby giving us a little time to quiet ourselves before God, in essence, we will be moved by the Holy Spirit without us even being aware of it. Sandra experienced the fact that sometimes God calms the storm and sometimes He lets the storm rage and calms His child. In this instance, He calmed His child, and He made everything all right. Also, Sandra wants wedding planners, brides, and mothers of brides to read her book and get inspiration and know that things happen, but with your faith in God, things will work out in the end.

Book excerpt: They were the best of friends, they were the worst of friends ... Lizbet and Cassie are close, yet far apart. After a clueless upbringing (their parents' basic childrearing beliefs: 'play a trombone, see a monkey, get some fresh air'), the two sisters strike out in opposite directions, both desperate to escape... Cassie is skinny, clever, charismatic, successful - every right-thinking girl's worst nightmare. The one flaw in her quality-controlled life may be her marriage - and if there are any other flaws lurking, Cassie has them covered. Lizbet is plumper, plainer, dreamier - more concerned about the design on her coffee cup than whether she can afford her new house. She works reluctantly for Ladzmag, desperate to make her name as a writer, but stuck writing embarrassing articles on sex. Her one achievement is her relationship with Tim, who thinks she's cute not stupid for asking why Jesus has a Mexican name. Despite Cassie being the favoured child, she and Lizbet have managed to stay friends. Perhaps because - as Cassie says - they've always wanted different things. But that's about to change. Confronted by challenges that they never asked for, forced apart by mistakes not their own, will Cassie and Lizbet ever realise the real meaning of sisterhood, or will true nature ruin everything...?

Book Separated Birth

Download or read book Separated Birth written by Anais Bordier and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE STORY BEHIND THE FILM TWINSTERS One of the Top Ten Facebook Stories of the decade When twenty-five-year-old South Korean adoptee and actress Samantha Futerman opened a Facebook message from a stranger named Anaïs Bordier, she had no idea that it would change her life forever… Adopted from South Korea as an infant, Sam grew up in New Jersey with her parents and two brothers. She never imagined she had a sister; nor did Anaïs—who grew up in France and was also adopted from South Korea—until she saw an actress with a face identical to her own in a YouTube video and decided to contact her doppelgänger via social media. A few dubious exchanges turned from mistrust and cynicism to utter shock, as the women discovered more in common than just their looks—and their birth date. Samantha and Anaïs’s ensuing adventure is a dive into the fascinating research on identical twins, particularly those who have been separated since birth; a reexamination of nature vs. nurture; a guide through the often befuddling territory of foreign adoption; and an emotional soul-search for two inextricably connected set of parents and children. Their discovery can only be described as the unimaginable journey of a lifetime—one that spans languages, continents, cultures, and ultimately proves that none of these barriers can disrupt the unbreakable bond between sisters.

Book The Worlds of Russian Village Women

Download or read book The Worlds of Russian Village Women written by Laura J. Olson and published by University of Wisconsin Pres. This book was released on 2013-01-10 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Russian rural women have been depicted as victims of oppressive patriarchy, celebrated as symbols of inherent female strength, and extolled as the original source of a great world culture. Throughout the years of collectivization, industrialization, and World War II, women played major roles in the evolution of the Russian village. But how do they see themselves? What do their stories, songs, and customs reveal about their values, desires, and motivations? Based upon nearly three decades of fieldwork, from 1983 to 2010, The Worlds of Russian Rural Women follows three generations of Russian women and shows how they alternately preserve, discard, and rework the cultural traditions of their forebears to suit changing needs and self-conceptions. In a major contribution to the study of folklore, Laura J. Olson and Svetlana Adonyeva document the ways that women’s tales of traditional practices associated with marriage, childbirth, and death reflect both upholding and transgression of social norms. Their romance songs, satirical ditties, and healing and harmful magic reveal the complexity of power relations in the Russian villages.

Book Telling Tales

Download or read book Telling Tales written by Penny Perrick and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-07-12 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The poignant biography of Anita Leslie, only woman to have been awarded both the Croix de Guerre and the Africa Star in World War II. Anita Leslie (1914-85), best known for popular biographies of her relatives including Jennie Churchill, Winston's mother, was also an unlikely war heroine. In 1940, Anita volunteered as an ambulance driver. By the end of the war, she was the only woman to have been awarded both the Africa Star and the Croix de Guerre, alongside the other medals for her service across all four fronts of WWII, as recounted in her remarkable memoir Train to Nowhere. In this revealing biography, Penny Perrick brings Anita to life: her complicated early years, her love for her children, her passion for Ireland, her career as a writer, and the ongoing family drama about Castle Leslie. Telling Tales is a scintillating and poignant account of this flamboyant woman.
