Book excerpt: Think about how much safer and relaxed you would feel if you knew what to expect from a relationship-before you got into one. In this book I lay open my experiences from what I feel God revealed to me about falling in love. A thriving growing relationship which enters into marriage waits within these pages. Where hands are still held within the revealed depths of love long after courtship, there is stability in behavior which promotes consistent growth. "As the bridegroom rejoices in His bride, so does the Lord rejoice in you." At last a pattern to behold and live for a full life.

Book excerpt: "Pure gold," "enduring literature," "spell binding," "deeply moving," "insightful," "heartfelt," "riveting," & "one of the most interesting stories to come out of World War II" are some of the reader responses to this poignant memoir. It traces the transformation of a typical small-town boy into a seasoned B-29 tail gunner flying 21 bombing missions over Japan -- one of which ended in the death of three crewmates. This book is more than a war story: it is rich in boyhood & wartime humor & nostalgia, recounts the amazing innocence, patriotism & values of the author's generation, & comments on revisionist historians & the need to use the atomic bomb. It asks -- & answers -- the question of why men risk their lives time & again in the face of great danger. Dedicated to the lost crewmen, this gem of a book is a timely, perceptive & inspirational account of a 19-year-old's experiences in the most costly & destructive war in history. Book Tail Gunner

Download or read book Tail Gunner written by R C Rivaz and published by The History Press. This book was released on 2011-08-26 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1943, this is the gripping story of one man's involvement in RAF Bomber Command's fledgling offensive between August 1940 and December 1941. Dick Rivaz was tail gunner to Leonard Cheshire, one of the most famous RAF pilots of the Second World War, flying in Whiteleys with 102 Squadron and latterly in Halifaxes with 35 Squadron. Unique among wartime memoirs, Tail Gunner was written within months of the events described, with all the immediacy of being at the very heart of the action. Rivaz graphically describes his experiences on night bombing attacks against heavily defended enemy targets like Duisberg, Dusseldorf and Essen, and relates a dramatic shoot-out with German fighters over La Rochelle in broad daylight during July 1941. Rivaz reveals the fine spirit of comradeship which developed in RAF bomber crews during the Second World War. Having survived the war, including two rescues from the North Sea, he was killed in October 1945, aged just thirty-seven.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ray Perry was a farm boy from rural West Texas when America entered World War II. He always had a fascination with planes, so he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps with the intention of becoming a pilot. The Army Air Corps needed tail gunners, however, so Ray served his country at the back end of a B-17, completing thirty-five combat missions before the war’s end. This is the story of his World War II adventure, wrought with tragedy and excitement and every emotion in between. This is also the story of how a young man from a small West Texas town handled the upheaval that comes with war. Based off numerous primary source materials, Ray’s story unfolds through his letters, photos, and mementos. The book’s foreword is written by his son, and former Texas governor, Rick Perry. “I never was rattled . . . . I could never remember really being scared. I know I was. Had to be. But I had control of it.” “The pilot sent the radio operator back there to see if they got me . . . and he climbed, crawled, right there beside the side of that tail wheel, and he never did get back all the way where I was at, but he . . . saw me sitting up and he saw me move a little. So, he went back and told the pilot, ‘I guess he’s alright. I think he’s still alive.’” —Ray Perry, from the book
