Book Determination of Strong Coupling Constant from Multi jet Events in Deep Inelastic Scattering at HERA

Download or read book Determination of Strong Coupling Constant from Multi jet Events in Deep Inelastic Scattering at HERA written by Kyung Kwang Joo and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis describes the determination of the strong coupling constant $\alpha\sb{s}$ from measurements of multi-jet rates in deep inelastic electron-proton scattering at HERA by the ZEUS collaboration for values of the squared four-momentum transfer $Q\sp2$ between 120 and 3600 GeV$\sp2.$ A total integrated luminosity of 3.2 pb$\sp{-1},$ collected during 1994, was used for the measurement. Jets are identified with the JADE algorithm. The jet rates were fitted to a next-to-leading order $O\ (\alpha\sbsp{s}{2})$ perturbative QCD calculation with $\alpha\sb{s}$ left as a free parameter. Using the fitted value for $\alpha\sb{s}$ the perturbative calculation describes well the measured rates and kinematic properties of multi-jet events. A cut on the angular distribution of parton emission in the $\gamma\sp{\*}$-parton center of mass is introduced to remove forward going jets. The value of $\alpha\sb{s}$ is measured in three $Q\sp2$ regions and finally combined over the full kinematic range. The $\alpha\sb{s}$ value decreases for increasing $Q\sp2,$ consistent with the running of the strong coupling constant, as expected by QCD. The determined value is $\alpha\sb{s}\ (M\sb{Z\sp0})=0.117\pm0.005\ (stat)\ \pm\ \sbsp{0.005}{0.004}(syst\sb{exp})\ \pm\ 0.007\ (syst\sb{theory}).$

Book On QCD Corrections to Jet Functions and Deep Inelastic Scattering

Download or read book On QCD Corrections to Jet Functions and Deep Inelastic Scattering written by Avanish Prashan Basdew-Sharma and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This thesis consists of two different studies in the field of precision calculations for elementary particle interactions in QCD. In the first study we developed an automated algorithm to calculate one-loop jet functions. The algorithm has been implemented in the Mathematica package GOJet. By using the geometric subtraction scheme, we regulate the soft and collinear singularities in order to render jet functions finite. The package allows one to calculate jet functions for generic IR-safe observables at one-loop order in QCD. In the second study we calculated, for the first time ever, the doubly fermionic nf2 non-singlet coefficient functions C2 and CL for inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS) at order N4LO in the strong coupling constant [alpha]s. By using the optical theorem, the integration-by-parts technique and the method of differential equations, we were able to recursively compute a sufficiently large number of Mellin moments (N = 1500), which allowed us to reconstruct full analytic expressions in both Mellin-N space and Bjorken-x space, in terms of harmonic sums and harmonic polylogarithms respectively. We verified the CFnf3 leading large-nf contributions to the coefficient functions CL(4)(x) and C2(4)(x). On top of what we agree with the coefficients of the large-x plus-distribution in C2 and with the resummations of log(x) and log(1 − x). As a byproduct we verified the N3LO nf2 non-singlet splitting function Pns(3)+(x). Furthermore, the no-[pi]2 theorem allowed us to predict the [zeta]4-terms of the 5-loop non-singlet splitting function at order CFCAnf3 and order CF2nf3."--

Book Recent QCD Results in nu N Deep inelastic scattering at CCFR NUTEV

Download or read book Recent QCD Results in nu N Deep inelastic scattering at CCFR NUTEV written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present recent QCD results in [nu]-N scattering at the Fermilab CCFR/NuTeV experiments. We present the latest Next-to-Next-Leading order strong coupling constant, [alpha]{sub s}, extracted from Gross-Llewellyn-Smith sum rule. The value of [alpha]{sub s} from this measurement, at the mass of Z boson, is [alpha]{sub s}{sup NNLO}(M{sub Z}2)=0.114{sub -0.012}{sup +0.009}. We also present a preliminary result of the CCFR F2 at large-x. This measurement of F2 is compared to other experiments and various models that provide nuclear effects. We discuss the previous strange sea quark measurement from the CCFR experiment and the prospects for improvements of the measurement in the NuTeV experiment.

Book Determination of the Strong Coupling Constant from Dijet Production in Deep Inelastic Scattering at HERA

Download or read book Determination of the Strong Coupling Constant from Dijet Production in Deep Inelastic Scattering at HERA written by Mathieu Plamondon and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In the present analysis, the constant alphas of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) is determined from dijets production in the regime of neutral current deep inelastic scattering (NC DIS) with high momentum transfer Q2. This measurement uses the data collected between the years 1998 to 2000 by the ZEUS detector located on the HERA ring collider in Hamburg, Germany. Corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 82.7 pb-1, the data were produced by the interactions between 27.5 GeV electrons (or positrons) and 920 GeV protons. Defined in a phase space reducing the theoretical and systematic uncertainties, the dijet production is observed as well as the total inclusive DIS cross-section. The resulting observable, the ratio of dijets over the number of DIS events, is then compared to the NLO predictions provided by the program DISENT. From a QCD fit performed on four bins in Q2, we obtain a value consistent with the world average: alpha s(MZ) = 0.1157 +/- 0.0017( stat.) +0.0054-0.00 59 (syst.) +0.0075-0.00 65 (th.)." --

Book The Development of Perturbative QCD

Download or read book The Development of Perturbative QCD written by G. Altarelli and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book consists of a collection of carefully selected review papers and lecture notes written by the author on Perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (PQCD) and its experimental tests. A leading authority who has contributed significantly to the development of PQCD for more than 20 years, the author has selected articles on the basis of their present interest. These articles cover different aspects of the subject without unnecessary duplication and are accompanied by commentaries. Also, original material, specially written for this book, has been added to integrate and update the results and their presentation. Hence, more than providing a historical perspective on the subject, this volume also serves well as an authoritative guidebook on Perturbative QCD.

Book Qcd 20 Years Later In 2 Volumes

Download or read book Qcd 20 Years Later In 2 Volumes written by H A Kastrup and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993-06-30 with total page 895 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings provide a general summary of the theoretical and experimental results which have established QCD as the theory of the strong interactions in the past 20 years. The experimental status of this theory in e⁺e⁻ annihilation, deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering and hadron-hadron collisions is reviewed and the theoretical implications are critically discussed. In addition, our knowledge on the non-perturbative sector of QCD, based on lattice and sum rule approaches, is summarized.
