Book A System s Evaluation of Global History of Indian Architecture

Download or read book A System s Evaluation of Global History of Indian Architecture written by Joy Sen and published by https://copalpublishing.com. This book was released on 2016-12-02 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deep within an inner cave (guhahitam) of our existence remains our potential Divinity. It is the place where our reflected sentient being (the First Bird) is trying to probe into to recover the hidden sun. The allegory is evident in the parable of the Cave once preached by the Upanishads and later by the Greek philosopher Plato. The probe is to push forward the First Bird to surge higher in the resplendent celestial blue under the full radiance of the Solar world, which is the Second, resulting in an explosion of an infinite all-pervading Divinity. Till the union and the rapture is attained, there are the two Birds – one, the psychic being, which is within us and the other one, which is the direct portion of the Divine. The direct portion is constantly trying to guide and work within us, so that evolution goes on and on. In the words of Sri Aurobindo, it is the Çhaitya Purusha, the direct portion of the Divine in the human, which is working incessantly till the rapture is activated. Ancient roots are evident in the ancient Swetaswatara Upanishad hailed by the primordial Sage Kapila and coded originally in a later text called the Bhagabat Purana, The Çhaitya Purusha is also the being that is behind the Chitta, Sri Aurobindo says. Millenniums later, the inspired Architects in the most ancient of all Buddhist ages had carved out the sacred idea in form of rock-cut expressions called the Chaitya hall. As the Mahayana Sutra of the foremost Shurangama at the Crown of the Great Buddha says: …the way of practicing the Samadhi is not singular and its actual method of cultivation depends upon the functioning of mind and mental concomitants (Citta-Chaitya pravritti) of each being and their interconnectedness (Mahat)… It is in the recovery or a re-tracing of the two as a DIVINITY that is originally ONE, an individual's journey called evolution and a collective journey called civilization itself are sustained. It is also from the deeper embedded patterns of this journey the gems of the system's foundation can be quarried.

Book Environmental Management Issues and Concerns in Developing Countries

Download or read book Environmental Management Issues and Concerns in Developing Countries written by Pradip K. Sikdar and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-17 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with issues and concerns for the human environment in the developing countries incorporating natural processes and systems, pollution removal technology, energy conservation, environmental impact assessment process, economics, culture, political structure and societal equity from a management point of view. Solutions to the emerging problems of the environment need a paradigmatic shift in approach from a process based model to a socio-political-economic model. Hence environmental management should involve equality and control over use of the finite natural resources and the balance between Earth’s biocapacity and humanity’s ecological footprint. Changes such as green technologies, human population stabilization and adoption of ecologically harmonious lifestyles are absolutely essential and will require redesigning of political institutions, policies and revisiting forgotten skills of sustainable practices of environmental management. These challenges should centre on environment governance using the concepts of common property, equity and security. This book is relevant for academics, professionals, administrators and policy makers who are concerned with various aspects of environment management and governance.

Book excerpt: "India: Modern Architectures in History shows how the architecture of 'Modern India" reflected and embodied the dramatic shifts of Indian society and culture. Peter Scriver and Amit Srivastava explore how Indian architectural modernity began in the early twentieth century, as public works and patronage fostered new design practices that directly challenged the social order and values invested in the building traditions of the past. This is the first book to examine both colonial and postcolonial aspects in comparable depth, and the authors draw together a broad range of sources, including private papers, photographic collections and the extensive records of the Indian Public Works Department system"--Page 4 of cover.

Book History of Indian and Eastern Architecture Vol 1 Classic Reprint

Download or read book History of Indian and Eastern Architecture Vol 1 Classic Reprint written by James Fergusson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-19 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of Indian and Eastern Architecture, Vol. 1 The case is different when we turn to Further India. Instead of only 100 pages and 50 illustrations, both these figures ought at least to be doubled to bring that branch of the subject up to the same stage of completeness as that describing the archi tecture of India Proper. For this, however, the materials do not at present exist. Of Japan we know almost nothing except from photographs, without plans, dimensions, or dates; and, except as regards Pekin and the Treaty Ports, we know almost as little of China. We know a great deal about one or two buildings in Cambodia and Java, but our information regarding all the rest is so fragmentary and incomplete, that it is hardly available for the purposes of a general history, and the same may be said of Burma and Siam. Ten years hence this deficiency may be supplied, and it may then be possible to bring the whole into harmony. At present a slight sketch indicating the relative position of each, and their relation to the styles of India Proper, is all that can be well accomplished.
