Book excerpt: Jirí Pribán's book contributes to the field of systems theory of law in the context of European legal and political integration and constitution-making. It puts recent European legislative efforts and policies, especially the EU enlargement process, in the context of legal theory and philosophy. Furthermore, the author shows that the system of positive law has a symbolic meaning, reflecting how it also contributes to the semantics of political identity, democratic power and moral values, as well as the complex relations between law, politics and morality.

Book European Air Law Association

Download or read book European Air Law Association written by European Air Law Association. Conference and published by Kluwer Law International. This book was released on 1997 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Against the background of the ongoing upturn in its economic performance, the air transport industry in 1996 continued to undergo radical change in structure and regulation. Issues of particular current importance in Europe include new developments in the areas of cooperation between airlines and slot allocation, and issues which are attracting significant attention for the first time, such as developments in Eastern Europe, and frequent-flyer programmes. The Association's annual conference for 1996 was held for the first time in Copenhagen - the European Cultural City for 1996 - and addressed these issues as well as any others which were current at the time.

Book Private Law in Eastern Europe

Download or read book Private Law in Eastern Europe written by Christa Jessel-Holst and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than 20 years have passed since the downfall of socialist systems. To accelerate transformation processes utmost priority was given to the recognition of property rights, an indispensable requirement for free market economies. Regulators soon came to realize that the success of transformation was conditioned on a more systematic approach towards codified civil law and business law. Numerous comparative law studies on individual Eastern European states have been undertaken, but they fail to portray the dynamic in its full scope. Studies adopting long-term perspectives and offering multi-nation comparisons are particularly rare. In March 2009, a symposium was held at the Hamburg Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Law to address these shortcomings. In this conference volume Christa Jessel-Holst, Rainer Kulms, and Alexander Trunk assemble the contributions by international policy advisors and scholars from Eastern and South Eastern Europe (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia and Ukraine) assessing codification processes in classic civil law fields and company and capital market laws. In spite of comparable transformation problems, the individual processes are moving forward quite disparately, oscillating between 'old' socialist codifications, legislative projects faithful to the acquis communautaire and new codifications with a distinctly autonomous approach. Nonetheless, most transformation states are united in their effort to establish efficient court systems which can handle the acquis without being positivistic.Contributors: Jurgen Basedow, Rainer Kulms, Michel Nussbaumer, Frederique Dahan, Thomas Meyer, Alexander Komarov, Volodymyr Kossak, Jelena Perovia?, Camelia Toader, Verica Trstenjak, Christian Takoff, Tatjana Josipovia?, Meliha Povlakia?, Dusan Nikolia?, Mirko Vasiljevia?, Alexandra Makovskaya, Oleg Zaitsev, Ionu? Book Soviet and East European Law and the Scientific Technical Revolution

Download or read book Soviet and East European Law and the Scientific Technical Revolution written by Gordon B. Smith and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soviet and East European Law and the Scientific-Technical Revolution discusses the various perceptions and understandings of the scientific technical revolution (STR) and its effect on the legal systems of the USSR and the East European nations. This book is composed 11 chapters and begins with a description of the relationship of the STR and law and how law is used as a means of manipulating the STR and directing its development. The succeeding chapters explore the STR in the realm of ideas or doctrine relating to management theory and jurisprudence. These topics are followed by discussions of the constitutional enactments influenced by the STR and the developments of administrative and labor laws. The remaining chapters highlight the tangible results of efforts to shape the STR. These chapters also look into the development of mechanisms for the transfer of technology between the Soviet Union and the Eastern Europe. This book is intended for historians and the general public who are interested in scientific-technical revolution.
