Book A Survey of Higher order Boundary layer Theory

Download or read book A Survey of Higher order Boundary layer Theory written by and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A survey of higher-order boundary-layer theory was made. The solutions to a number of cases of steady, plane or axisymmetry, laminar flows are reviewed where one or more of the higher order effects such as, displacement, longitudinal curvature, transverse curvature, and external vorticity are considered. The method of matched asymptotic expansion is offered as a technique which can be applied to such problems without having to rely upon physical insight. The more complicated compressible second-order boundary theory in contrast with the incompressible case is seen developed with minimum of error. A new field of application for higher-order boundary-layer theory is discussed. This is motion in which the basic inviscid flow is singular at the surface of the body. This situation has arisen recently in various branches of high-speed aerodynamics. (Author).

Book Introduction to Interactive Boundary Layer Theory

Download or read book Introduction to Interactive Boundary Layer Theory written by Ian John Sobey and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2000 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the major achievements in fluid mechanics in the last quarter of the twentieth century has been the development of an asymptotic description of perturbations to boundary layers known generally as 'triple deck theory'. These developments have had a major impact on our understanding of laminar fluid flow, particularly laminar separation. It is also true that the theory rests on three quarters of a century of development of boundary layer theory which involves analysis, experimentation and computation. All these parts go together, and to understand the triple deck it is necessary to understand which problems the triple deck resolves and which computational techniques have been applied. This book presents a unified account of the development of laminar boundary layer theory as a historical study together with a description of the application of the ideas of triple deck theory to flow past a plate, to separation from a cylinder and to flow in channels. The book is intended to provide a graduate level teaching resource as well as a mathematically oriented account for a general reader in applied mathematics, engineering, physics or scientific computation.

Book Solutions of the Second order Boundary layer Equations for Laminar Incompressible Flow

Download or read book Solutions of the Second order Boundary layer Equations for Laminar Incompressible Flow written by Michael J Werle and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Use is made of self similarity approach and integral momentum technique to obtain solutions of Van Dyke's second-order boundary-layer equations for laminar incompressible flow. Accurate numerical solutions of the most general self similar equations are tabulated for the four second-order contributions due to vorticity interaction, displacement speed, longitudinal curvature, and transverse curvature. A limited number of closed form solutions are obtained which appear to have special significance at the point of first-order boundary-layer separation. In particular it is found that the displacement speed problem can proceed up to separation for only two values of the second-order pressure gradient. All other cases display an infinite discontinuity at this point. Numerical solutions of a large number of cases for the longitudinal and transverse curvature effects well support an identical conclusion. The integral momentum technique applied (a straight forward extension of the Karmen-Pohlhausen solutions) is found to be oversensitive to approximations and in the final analysis is rejected in favor of locally similar solutions. Download or read book Recent Advances in Boundary Layer Theory written by Alfred Kluwick and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-04 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent advances in boundary-layer theory have shown how modern analytical and computational techniques can and should be combined to deepen the understanding of high Reynolds number flows and to design effective calculation strategies. This is the unifying theme of the present volume which addresses laminar as well as turbulent flows.

Book Applications of Group Theoretical Methods in Hydrodynamics

Download or read book Applications of Group Theoretical Methods in Hydrodynamics written by V.K. Andreev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1998-10-31 with total page 966 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was long ago that group analysis of differential equations became a powerful tool for studying nonlinear equations and boundary value problems. This analysis was especially fruitful in application to the basic equations of mechanics and physics because the invariance principles are already involved in their derivation. It is in no way a coincidence that the equations of hydrodynamics served as the first object for applying the new ideas and methods of group analysis which were developed by 1. V. Ovsyannikov and his school. The authors rank themselves as disciples of the school. The present monograph deals mainly with group-theoretic classification of the equations of hydrodynamics in the presence of planar and rotational symmetry and also with construction of exact solutions and their physical interpretation. It is worth noting that the concept of exact solution to a differential equation is not defined rigorously; different authors understand it in different ways. The concept of exact solution expands along with the progress of mathematics (solu tions in elementary functions, in quadratures, and in special functions; solutions in the form of convergent series with effectively computable terms; solutions whose searching reduces to integrating ordinary differential equations; etc. ). We consider it justifiable to enrich the set of exact solutions with rank one and rank two in variant and partially invariant solutions to the equations of hydrodynamics.

Book A Survey of Recent Work on Interacted Boundary Layer Theory for Flow with Separation

Download or read book A Survey of Recent Work on Interacted Boundary Layer Theory for Flow with Separation written by H. McDonald and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is now widely recognized that the steady boundary layer equations can be used to predict small regions of flow separations when the interaction with the outer inviscid flow is allowed for. A very close relationship between the formalism of the finite Reynolds number approach of treating the interacting boundary layer equations and the socalled triple deck approach to unravel the structure of asymptotic high Reynolds number interacting shear layers is also now widely accepted. The alternative procedure of approaching the problem numerically via the ensemble-averaged Navier-Stokes equations is possible, and the steady interacted boundary layer approach is attractive when numerical solutions of the interacted boundary layer equations are of sufficient generality and can be routinely obtained accurately and more efficiently than solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations.
