Book Prestressed Concrete Pavements

Download or read book Prestressed Concrete Pavements written by National Research Council (U.S.). Highway Research Board. Committee on Rigid Pavement Design and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design investigations and limited testing of model and prototype slabs indicate that prestressed pavements permit a more efficient use of construction materials in terms of required pavement thickness. Prestressed pavements can be designed with fewer joints and with less probability of cracking than conventional rigid pavements, thereby promising extended pavement life and reduced maintenance requirements. Information relative to the design and construction of prestressed concrete pavements is presented. Recommendations are developed on planning, design, and areas of engineering investigation and research. Minimum tests are recommended for experimental highway pavements. Design variables are discussed with factors affecting design.

Following an overview of the theory involved, the authors detail optimum design techniques and best practice, with a focus on highway and infrastructure projects. Worked examples and calculations are provided to describe standard design methods, illustrated with numerous case studies. The author provides guidance on how to use each method on particular projects, with reference to UK, European and US standards and codes of practice. Concrete Pavement Design Guidance Notes is an essential handbook for civil engineers, consultants and contractors involved in the design and construction of concrete pavements, and will also be of interest to students of pavement design.

Book Prestressed Concrete Pavements Volume II Design and Construction Procedures for Civil Airports

Download or read book Prestressed Concrete Pavements Volume II Design and Construction Procedures for Civil Airports written by Eugene C. Odom and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume of this report recommends practices and procedures for design and construction of prestressed concrete pavements for civil airports. For the design procedure, the basic load-stress relationships were developed from small-scale model tests employing static loadings. Stresses computed from Westergaard's theory for elastic behavior were adjusted by moment correction factors to reflect the redistribution of moments resulting from partial hinges that develop under the load. Effects of repetitive moving loads were examined both in small-scale models and in full-scale prototype test pavements. The design procedure permits interrelating magnitude of loading, load repetitions, flexural strength, subgrade conditions, pavement thicknesses, slab dimensions, and magnitude of prestress. Consideration also is given to the effects of elastic shortening, creep, and shrinkage of concrete, relaxation in steel tendons, anchorage systems, tendon friction, subgrade restraint, and temperature changes. Construction procedures and alternatives are examined based on a study of prototype test pavements and operational prestressed facilities constructed in the US and abroad.

Book Concrete Pavement Design Construction and Performance Second Edition

Download or read book Concrete Pavement Design Construction and Performance Second Edition written by Norbert J. Delatte and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-05-22 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of Concrete Pavement Design, Construction, and Performance provides a solid foundation for pavement engineers seeking relevant and applicable design and construction instruction. It relies on general principles instead of specific ones, and incorporates illustrative case studies and prime design examples to highlight the material. It presents a thorough understanding of materials selection, mixture proportioning, design and detailing, drainage, construction techniques, and pavement performance. It also offers insight into the theoretical framework underlying commonly used design procedures as well as the limits of the applicability of the procedures. All chapters have been updated to reflect recent developments, including some alternative and emerging design technologies that improve sustainability. What’s New in the Second Edition: The second edition of this book contains a new chapter on sustainability, and coverage of mechanistic-empirical design and pervious concrete pavements. RCC pavements are now given a new chapter. The text also expands the industrial pavement design chapter. Outlines alternatives for concrete pavement solutions Identifies desired performance and behavior parameters Establishes appropriate materials and desired concrete proportions Presents steps for translating the design into a durable facility The book highlights significant innovations such as one is two-lift concrete pavements, precast concrete pavement systems, RCC pavement, interlocking concrete pavers, thin concrete pavement design, and pervious concrete. This text also addresses pavement management, maintenance, rehabilitation, and overlays.

Book Concrete Pavement Design Construction and Performance

Download or read book Concrete Pavement Design Construction and Performance written by Norbert Delatte and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressing the interactions between the different design and construction variables and techniques this book illustrates best practices for constructing economical, long life concrete pavements. The book proceeds in much the same way as a pavement construction project. First, different alternatives for concrete pavement solutions are outlined. The desired performance and behaviour parameters are identified. Next, appropriate materials are outlined and the most suitable concrete proportions determined. The design can be completed, and then the necessary construction steps for translating the design into a durable facility are carried out. Although the focus reflects highways as the most common application, special features of airport, industrial, and light duty pavements are also addressed. Use is made of modeling and performance tools such as HIPERPAV and LTPP to illustrate behavior and performance, along with some case studies. As concrete pavements are more complex than they seem, and the costs of mistakes or of over-design can be high, this is a valuable book for engineers in both the public and private sectors.

Book Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement

Download or read book Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement written by Nelson Pohlman and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) is enjoying a renaissance across the United States and around the world. CRCP has the potential to provide a long-term, "zero-maintenance," service life under heavy traffic loadings and challenging environmental conditions, provided proper design and quality construction practices are utilised. This book provides an overview of the CRCP technology and the major developments that have led to what are referred to herein as the "best practices" for CRCP design and construction. The purpose of this book is to provide the best practices information on rehabilitation strategies for extending the service life of continuously reinforced concrete pavements (CRCP). The procedures described in this book consist of defining the problem, identifying potential solutions, and selecting the preferred alternatives.

Book Design and Construction of PCC Pavements

Download or read book Design and Construction of PCC Pavements written by Leslie Titus-Glover and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A study has been conducted to evaluate and analyze portland cement concrete (PCC) pavements in order to develop recommendations for the design and construction of long-lived concrete pavements. It involved a detailed evaluation and analysis of the PCC pavement data in the Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) database using statistical techniques to determine the design features and construction practices that have a beneficial effect on long-term performance. The study focused on the development of practical recommendations that can be easily implemented by highway agencies to increase pavement life. This volume describes and provides information on design features and construction practices that improve pavement performance. A key focus was to develop canonical discriminant functions that can be used to discriminate between groups of pavements in the sense of being able to tell them apart. The pavements were grouped according to their performance classification, namely, above expectation, as expected, and below expectation The canonical functions consist of linear combinations of the variables that describe and quantify the pavement design features, site conditions, and construction practices. I This report is the second in a series of three volumes on the study. The other volumes are as follows: FHWA No. Vol No. Short Title FHWA-RD-98-052 I Summary of Design Features and Construction Practices That Influence Performance of Pavements FHWA-RD-98-113 I11 Improved PCC Performance Models"--Technical report documentation page.
