Book Magnetic Properties of Layered Transition Metal Compounds

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last two decades low-dimensional (low-d) physics has matured into a major branch of science. Quite generally we may define a system with restricted dimensionality d as an object that is infinite only in one or two spatial directions (d = 1 and 2). Such a definition comprises isolated single chains or layers, but also fibres and thin layers (films) of varying but finite thickness. Clearly, a multitude of physical phenomena, notably in solid state physics, fall into these categories. As examples, we may mention: • Magnetic chains or layers (thin-film technology). • Metallic films (homogeneous or heterogeneous, crystalline, amorphous or microcristalline, etc.). • I-d or 2-d conductors and superconductors. • Intercalated systems. • 2-d electron gases (electrons on helium, semiconductor interfaces). • Surface layer problems (2-d melting of monolayers of noble gases on a substrate, surface problems in general). • Superfluid films of ~He or 'He. • Polymer physics. • Organic and inorganic chain conductors, superionic conductors. • I-d or 2-d molecular crystals and liquid crystals. • I-d or 2-d ferro- and antiferro electrics.

Book Transition Metals and Silicon

Download or read book Transition Metals and Silicon written by Benjamin Geisler and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2015-03-12 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present, richly illustrated book takes the reader on a tour through the field of modern spintronics, discussing key aspects such as ferromagnetic thin films, dilute magnetic semiconductors, and magnetic tunnel junctions. It demonstrates different approaches to a detailed understanding of magnetism and materials properties on the atomic scale, as required by the ongoing miniaturization of electronics. Due to their technological relevance, the focus lies on silicon and different transition metals like chromium, manganese, and iron. Among others, the following questions are addressed from the viewpoint of state-of-the-art computational physics: Is the scanning tunneling microscope capable of resolving even complex film atomic structures? How can we use its spin-sensitive form to gain insight into interactions of magnetic impurities in bulk semiconductors? Why is chromium-doped silicon especially interesting? Does one need a Seebeck coefficient to obtain spincaloric properties ab initio?

Book Magnetic Properties of Antiferromagnetic Oxide Materials

Download or read book Magnetic Properties of Antiferromagnetic Oxide Materials written by Lamberto Duò and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-04-16 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first focused treatment on a hot topic highlights fundamental aspects as well as technological applications arising from a fascinating area of condensed matter physics. The editors have excellent track records and, in light of the broadness of the topic, retain the focus on antiferromagnetic oxides. They thus cover such topics as dichroism in x-ray absorption, non-magnetic substrates, exchange bias, ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic interface coupling and oxide multilayers, as well as imaging using soft x-ray microscopy. The result is a very timely monograph for solid state physicists and chemists, materials scientists, electrical engineers, physicists in industry, physical laboratory technicians, and suppliers of sensors.

Book Thin Films for Advanced Electronic Devices

Download or read book Thin Films for Advanced Electronic Devices written by Maurice H. Francombe and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume of the highly esteemed Physics of Thin Films serial, focused coverage is given to new trends in solid state devices. Four chapters combine to provide comprehensive discussions of magnetostatic wave phenomena in epitaxial magnetic oxide films and their applications in microwave signal processing devices: Thin-film rare earth transition metal alloys for magnetooptic recording. Two new classes of quantum well structures that have been used for infrared detectors and ultrafast resonant tunneling devices. Recent applications of Fourier transform spectroscopy for the analysis of inorganic thin solid films. This book provides a focused treatment of recent developments in novel thin film solid state components, and specifically discusses magnetic, semiconducting, and optical phenomena.

Book Rare Earth Permanent Magnet Alloys High Temperature Phase Transformation

Download or read book Rare Earth Permanent Magnet Alloys High Temperature Phase Transformation written by Shuming Pan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-01 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The process of high temperature phase transition of rare earth permanent-magnet alloys is revealed by photographs taken by high voltage TEM. The relationship between the formation of nanocrystal and magnetic properties is discussed in detail, which effects alloys composition and preparation process. The experiment results verified some presumptions, and were valuable for subsequent scientific research and creating new permanent-magnet alloys. The publication is intended for researchers, engineers and managers in the field of material science, metallurgy, and physics. Prof. Shuming Pan is senior engineer of Beijing General Research Institute of Non-ferrous Metal.
