Download or read book Satellite Sar Detection Of Sub mesoscale Ocean Dynamic Processes written by Quanan Zheng and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2017-03-17 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) as a form of radar to create images of objects, uses the motion of the radar antenna over a targeted region to provide finer spatial resolution than is possible with conventional beam-scanning radars by mounting the antenna on a moving platform such as an aircraft or spacecraft. As antenna aperture (the 'size' of the antenna) is defined by the distance the SAR device travels over a target in the time taken for the radar pulses to return to the antenna, the larger the aperture is, the higher the image resolution, therefore, this enables SAR to create high resolution images with comparatively small physical antennas. This special book aims to provide the updated theories and methods for the use of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) onboard satellites to detect ocean processes, i.e., SAR ocean remote sensing. It is a hi-tech application field having been developed since late 1970s and become a powerful tool for obtaining dynamic signatures from the remote and broad ocean.

This book was released on 2022-10-28 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarizes achievements of the study on circulation and air–sea interaction and development of the ocean observation network in the South China Sea in the last 20 years, thus serving as a comprehensive reference book to understand the dynamic environment in the SCS. It consists of seven chapters, briefly reviewing our understanding of the SCS circulation and air–sea interaction in chapter 1, then describing in detail the upper layer circulation from large scale (SCS through flow, SCS western boundary current, etc.), to meso- and submeso-scale in Chapters 2 and 5, dilute river plume and coastal upwelling over the shelf in Chapter 3, deep ocean circulation in Chapter 4, tropical cyclone activities and air–sea flux at the interface in Chapter 6, and the construction of the observation network and database in Chapter 7. Besides the basic features of these physical processes, the book also discusses their variations and fundamental dynamics. Thus, it is written in a way that meets the different information demands from researchers working in various marine related fields.

Download or read book Weather Disasters in the South China Sea and Surrounding Regions Observations Theories Data Assimilation and Numerical Forecasting written by Jianjun Xu and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-08-28 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The South China Sea (SCS) is the linkage between the western Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean. Its weather/climate variations are regarded as an important factor influencing social and economic development. The SCS and its surrounding regions suffer from various weather disasters (e.g., typhoons, extreme rainfall, sea fog, severe convection, tornado, and wind hazards), which are serious threats to life and property. As such, accurate nowcasting is life-critical in this area. However, it is still a worldwide challenge to improve the forecast accuracy due to less understanding of the formation mechanism, evolution pattern, internal structure, and physical processes. As a dominant physical process, the ocean-atmosphere interaction plays an important role in affecting the weather/climate system and disasters over the SCS and surrounding regions, particularly vertical mixing between the interface of ocean and atmosphere. This research topic aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the physical processes related to these disasters, applications of data assimilation, and the development of forecasting techniques, which are essential to enhance disaster prevention and mitigation capabilities. In addition, in-depth research of these disasters and their impacts could help to uncover the hazard-causing characteristics and establish a corresponding risk assessment system.

Download or read book Deep Learning for Marine Science written by Haiyong Zheng and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-05-15 with total page 555 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deep learning (DL), mainly composed of deep and complex neural networks such as recurrent network and convolutional network, is an emerging research branch in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning. DL revolution has a far-reaching impact on all scientific disciplines and every corner of our lives. With continuing technological advances, marine science is entering into the big data era with the exponential growth of information. DL is an effective means of harnessing the power of big data. Combined with unprecedented data from cameras, acoustic recorders, satellite remote sensing, and large model outputs, DL enables scientists to solve complex problems in biology, ecosystems, climate, energy, as well as physical and chemical interactions. Although DL has made great strides, it is still only beginning to emerge in many fields of marine science, especially towards representative applications and best practices for the automatic analysis of marine organisms and marine environments. DL in nowadays' marine science mainly leverages cutting-edge techniques of deep neural networks and massive data which collected by in-situ optical or acoustic imaging sensors for underwater applications, such as plankton classification and coral reef detection. This research topic aims to expand the applications of marine science to cover all aspects of detection, classification, segmentation, localization, and density estimation of marine objects, organisms, and phenomena.
Download or read book Ocean Hydrodynamics of the Japan and East China Seas written by T. Ichiye and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-04-01 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Japan and East China seas are both marginal seas, but have different oceanographical features: the former is a deep basin filled with polar water but a jet-like current in the upper layer, and the latter is a wide continental shelf with two large rivers. This book provides the first synthesis of information on the circulation, hydrography, coastal phenomena, tides, turbidity and wind waves of these seas. Circulation caused by wind, pressure distributions and other effects is discussed with the aid of analytical, numerical and hydraulic models, many of which can also be applied to problems in other seas. New oceanographic techniques covered include remote sensing, drifter tracking and moored current meter system, providing information useful to both researchers and students.
