Book Optimal Control for Chemical Engineers

Download or read book Optimal Control for Chemical Engineers written by Simant Ranjan Upreti and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-04-19 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This self-contained book gives a detailed treatment of optimal control theory that enables readers to formulate and solve optimal control problems. With a strong emphasis on problem solving, it provides all the necessary mathematical analyses and derivations of important results, including multiplier theorems and Pontryagin's principle. The text presents various examples and basic concepts of optimal control and describes important numerical methods and computational algorithms for solving a wide range of optimal control problems, including periodic processes.

Book The Optimal Control of Chemical Processes

Download or read book The Optimal Control of Chemical Processes written by Coleman B. Brosilow and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Attention is focused on obtaining a near optimal controller, for chemical processes, which is simple to design and inexpensive to implement. Pontryagin's technique is used to show that for a quadratic objective function, and a process which is described by a set of ordinary differential equations, linear in the controllable variables, the optimal control is on-off control, when the controllable variables are assumed to be bounded. A technique of parameter optimization is developed and used to obtain the equations which specify the switching times. These equations are restricted to processes which can be approximated by stable, linear, sationary differential equations. For the special case of one switch it is shown that the control law can be transformed into a switching criterion which is linear in the process outputs. Employing this criterion continuously results in a feedback controller which requires only a relay and a summing device for implementation. Analog computer studies on the control of both underdamped and overdamped systems with the 'one switch into the future' optimal controller show that this controller gives a virtually dead beat type of response even for severe disturbances. Book The Optimal Design of Chemical Reactors

Download or read book The Optimal Design of Chemical Reactors written by Rutherford Aris and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematics in Science and Engineering, Volume 3: The Optimal Design of Chemical Reactors: A Study in Dynamic Programming covers some of the significant problems of chemical reactor engineering from a unified point of view. This book discusses the principle of optimality in its general baring on chemical processes. Organized into nine chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the whole range of optimal problems in chemical reactor design. This text then provides the fundamental equations for reactions and reactors. Other chapters consider the objective function needed to define a realistic optimal problem and explain separately the main types of chemical reactors and their associated problems. This book discusses as well the three problems with a stochastic element. The final chapter deals with the optimal operation of existing reactors that may be regarded as partial designs in which only some of the variables can be optimally chosen. This book is a valuable resource for chemical engineers.
