Book The Effect of an Aiming Apparatus on Shooting Accuracy of Female Collegiate Basketball Players

Download or read book The Effect of an Aiming Apparatus on Shooting Accuracy of Female Collegiate Basketball Players written by Michele Elaine Rupe and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the use of an aiming apparatus on female collegiate basketball players' shooting accuracy. The study was conducted with two Division II Women's basketball programs during the 1994-95 season. The experimental and control groups participated in a pre-test, mid-test and post-test to measure shooting accuracy changes over a 16 week period between Dec . 1, 1994 and Feb. 28, 1995. Each test consisted of 65 field goal attempts from 13 designated spots out to and including three point range, along the baseline, at 45 degree angles, and straight out from the basket as well as 20 free throw attempts. The control group did not participate in practice sessions with the device. The practice sessions were designed to examine the effect of immediate transfer by including a set of shots with the device followed by immediate practice on a basket without the device. The results ofthe experimental group's pre-test, mid-test and post-test scores while using the device for 30 practice sessions were compared to the results of the control group's pre-test, mid-test, and post- test scores without the use of the device or practice sessions to determine significance. A Repeated Measures of ANOVA statistical test was used to determine if a significant difference existed between the experimental and control group's pre-test, mid-test and post-test scores. Alpha was chosen at the .05 level. The experimental group improved in all four categories of shooting when comparing their scores with and without the device during the 30 practice sessions. The overall field goal percentage increased from 60.9% to 65.9%, the two point percentage from 74.4% to 77.2%, three point percentage from 39.5% to 48%, and free throw percentage from 76.3% to 78. 1%. Even though the study found positive results in the experimental group's shooting percentages in the four categories, significant difference was not found between the experimental and control group's pre-test, mid-test and post-test scores"--Document.

Book The Effects of a Target Rim on Basketball Shooting Accuracy of Big Sky Conference Men s and Women s Teams

Download or read book The Effects of a Target Rim on Basketball Shooting Accuracy of Big Sky Conference Men s and Women s Teams written by Raymond A. La Bate and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the basketball target rim on 2 pt. field goal, 3 pt. field goal and free throw shooting accuracy in men's and women's intercollegiate basketball. The Big Sky Conference men's and women's basketball teams agreed to participate in this study during the 1993-94 season. Data collection for analysis involved individual game shooting statistics and included the compilation of free throw, 2 pt. field goal and 3 pt. field goal shooting statistics. Target rims were provided to four of the conference schools and standard rims, of the same make, were used at the alternate four schools. Analysis of the data included a comparison of shooting accuracy achieved at the schools equipped with the target rims, versus the shooting accuracy achieved at the schools equipped with the standard rims. Two null hypothesis with three variables each, were tested at the 0.05 level of significance. Analysis of the data using a Pearson Chi-square test revealed that there does not appear to be a significant relationship between target rim and non-target rim shooting performance for Big Sky Conference men's or women's basketball teams. A review of the shooting performances by site indicates that there was a trend for more consistent and higher free throw percentages for the men's and women's teams at the target rim sites. Also, 3 pt. shooting at men's target sites was 0.8 percentage points higher than at non- target sites, and women's 2 pt. field goal percentage at target sites was 1.0 percentage point higher than the non-target sites"--Document.

Book The Effect of an Aiming Apparatus on Shooting in the Game of Basketball

Download or read book The Effect of an Aiming Apparatus on Shooting in the Game of Basketball written by Jeffrey Michael Ahmann and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of an aiming apparatus for use in the game of basketball. The aiming apparatus is designed to help improve the shooting accuracy of basketball players by: 1) providing a specific target, 2) presenting true visual basket size and, 3) allowing only shots of the optimal angle of projection to be successful. The subjects used in the study were twelve members of the Eastern Washington University NCAA Division I men's basketball team. The study took place during the second half of the 1993-94 regular college basketball season. The study involved a pre test followed by six weeks of practice on the "Super Shot" training device. A post test was then administered following the six weeks of practice with the training device. The results of the post test were compared to the results of the pre test to determine significance. An independent t test was used to determine if significant differences could be found at the p>.10 level. The Eastern Washington University men's basketball team game statistics were also studied for differences. The statistics from the first fourteen games of the season (pre "training device" practice) were compared to the statistics of the last twelve games of the season during which the "Super Shot" training device was being utilized for shooting practice. This study found positive results in the overall shooting percentages of the pre test and post test scores but did not find significance. Substantial improvement was found in the team's overall three point shooting percentage and the team's overall free throw shooting percentage between the first fourteen games of the season vs. the last twelve games of the season. Further study is recommended utilizing the "Super Shot" shooting apparatus as well as the reliability and validity of the training device and the shooting test administered ("The Ahmann Shooting Test")"--Document.

Book The Effects of a Target Rim on Basketball Shooting Accuracy

Download or read book The Effects of a Target Rim on Basketball Shooting Accuracy written by Larry Alan Sage and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a basketball target rim on field goal and free throw shooting accuracy in men's intercollegiate basketball. The subjects of this study were those players composing EWU's basketball team and opposing teams. Data were gathered during the 1984-85 basketball season. The criteria of measurement consisted of free throw and field goal shooting accuracy comparing two types of basketball rims; a target rim and a standard rim. Three null hypotheses were tested at the .01 level of significance. An analysis of the data using a t-test revealed field goal shooting accuracy was significantly better on the target rim for the visiting team. No significant difference was revealed in free throw shooting accuracy on the target rim"--Document.

Book The Purpose of this Study is to Determine the Effect of the big Ball Basketball Shooting Aid as a Tool to Measure Free Throw Shooting Percentage

Download or read book The Purpose of this Study is to Determine the Effect of the big Ball Basketball Shooting Aid as a Tool to Measure Free Throw Shooting Percentage written by James H. Rowe and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The significance of this study was to determine if using a big ball basketball during practice will increase free throw shooting percentage in high school male athletes. The big ball was designed to improve shooting accuracy of basketball players by: 1) increasing the tracking of the ball, 2) increasing the arch on the free throw shot, 3) forcing subjects to spread hand on the back of the ball. The subjects were eighteen boy's varsity and junior varsity basketball players from Sultan High School. The study took place during the 1999-2000 high school boy's basketball season. Subjects practiced for two and a half hours, six days a week throughout the season. The season lasted from November until February. The study involved a pre-test at the beginning of the season and a post test at the end of the season. The results of the test were factored using a two way ANOVA to determine significance. There was also a paired t-test between control and experimental groups. This study found that both control and experimental groups had improved their shooting percentages from pre-test to post-test. There was no difference between experimental and control group to support the effect of increased shooting percentage due to the big ball basketball"--Document.
