Book Evaluation of the Strength Aptitude Test and Other Fitness Tests to Qualify Air Force Recruits for Physically Demanding Specialties

Download or read book Evaluation of the Strength Aptitude Test and Other Fitness Tests to Qualify Air Force Recruits for Physically Demanding Specialties written by Sean Robson and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Air Force uses the Strength Aptitude Test (SAT) to determine whether recruits meet the fitness levels needed to perform the duties of various Air Force specialties with physical strength requirements. However, the SAT was developed in the early 1980s and has not been revalidated since then. In the interim, the duties associated with many Air Force Specialty Code classifications may have changed, and new ones have been added. These changes require a reevaluation of the SAT's utility and effectiveness for qualifying recruits into these specialties. This report evaluates the status and validity of the SAT in a series of studies and summarizes the studies RAND has completed independently and one study conducted in conjunction with HumRRO, which provided the additional data necessary to develop some courses of action for the Air Force to follow to ensure airmen can meet job-related physical requirements.

Book The Weighted Airman Promotion System

Download or read book The Weighted Airman Promotion System written by Michael Schiefer and published by RAND Corporation. This book was released on 2008 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because test scores that are part of its enlisted promotion system are not standardized, the U.S. Air Force effectively emphasizes longevity and test-taking ability differently across and within specialties, and this emphasis varies randomly over time. The random aspects of the promotion reward system mean that the Air Force cannot be sure that it is selecting individuals with the highest potential to fill positions of increased grade and responsibility. Furthermore, not standardizing scores means that some specialties randomly produce higher percentages of senior non-commissioned officers. The authors discuss a range of outcomes that the Air Force could achieve by adopting various standardization strategies. They propose a modification that would not change the policy of equal selection opportunity but would affect selection outcomes within specialties. They recommend that the Air Force implement a standardization strategy that will produce predictable outcomes that are consistent with its personnel priorities and policies.

Book Implementing the Criterion Referenced USAF United States Air Force Apprentice Knowledge Test Program

Download or read book Implementing the Criterion Referenced USAF United States Air Force Apprentice Knowledge Test Program written by Christopher M. Antons and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To improve the AKTs, USAFOMC initiated a series of studies. In the first study, AKT scores were compared for three groups: beginning trainees and graduates of a technical training course for general vehicle maintenance, and airmen already selected for bypass in that specialty. Mean scores for both the beginning trainees and bypass group were significantly lower than the mean score for graduates. Differences in scores of beginning trainees and graduates showed the test was able to discriminate among levels of knowledge for a specialty. Differences in scores of the bypass group and graduates demonstrated specialty knowledge differences between a group seeking apprentice skill level and a group just completing formal technical training. In comparison, the score at the tenth percentile of graduates was the same as the score at the seventy-fifth percentile of the bypass group. Using the score just above the tenth percentile as a passing score, some airmen previously selected as bypass specialists would not be qualified.
