Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS)* at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the though that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemi nation. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 37 (thesis year 1992) a total of 12,549 thesis titles from 25 Canadian and 153 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 37 reports theses submitted in 1992, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book High Performance Packet Switching Architectures

Download or read book High Performance Packet Switching Architectures written by Enrico Schiattarella and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-07 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Packet switches are at the heart of modern communication networks. Initially deployed for local- and wide-area computer networking, they are now being used in different contexts, such as interconnection networks for High-Performance Computing (HPC), Storage Area Networks (SANs) and Systems-on-Chip (SoC) communication. Each application domain, however, has peculiar requirements in terms of bandwidth, latency, scalability and delivery guarantee. In this thesis we present two novel switching architectures, aimed at shared-memory supercomputing and storage networking respectively. We describe the general architecture of the two systems and discuss how specific requirements and current technology trends have impacted the design. More important, we present architectural innovations that address important issues concerning performance and scalability of input-queued switches. We propose techniques that enable the construction of distributed (multi-chip) schedulers for large crossbars, develop a scheme for integrated scheduling of unicast and multicast traffic and and study flow-control mechanisms that enable lossless behavior while providing fine-grained control of active flows.

Book Comparative Study of Networks Using Packet and Circuit Switching Within a Single Network

Download or read book Comparative Study of Networks Using Packet and Circuit Switching Within a Single Network written by Suman Sharma and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "During the last couple of years, in addition to voice, other types of communications network services are becoming increasingly important. These are interactive data, facsimile, slow scan image, and bulk data. Typically, these services are delivered by separate networks using various kinds of switching technology, such as packet, circuit, or message switching. Recently, much of the focus has been on the integration of all types of communication services within the same switch or network, especially within the telephony and business industry. Integration of the communication services is being realized by integrating packet and circuit switching within the same switch or network. The overall goal of this thesis is to present the key aspects of the integration of circuit and packet switching within the same switch/network."--Abstract.

Book Performance Modelling and Evaluation of ATM Networks

Download or read book Performance Modelling and Evaluation of ATM Networks written by Demetres D. Kouvatsos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks are widely considered to be the new generation of high speed communication systems both for broadband public information highways and for local and wide area private networks. ATM is designed to integrate existing and future voice, audio, image and data services. Moreover, ATM aims to simplify the complexity of switching and buffer management, to optimise intermediate node processing and buffering and to limit transmission delays. However, to support such diverse services on one integrated communication network, it is most essential, through careful engineering, to achieve a fruitful balance amongst the conflicting requirements of different quality of service constraints ensuring that one service does not have adverse implications on another. Over recent years there has been a great deal of progress in research and development of ATM technology, but there are still many interesting and important problems to be resolved such as traffic characterisation and control, routing and optimisation, ATM switching techniques and the provision of quality of service. This book presents thirty-two research papers, both from industry and academia, reflecting latest original achievements in the theory and practice of performance modelling of ATM networks worldwide. These papers were selected, subject to peer review, from those submitted as extended and revised versions out of fifty-nine shorter papers presented at the Second IFIP Workshop on "Performance Modelling and Evaluation of ATM Networks" July 4-7, 1994, Bradford University. At least three referees from the scientific committee and externally were involved in the selection of each paper.

Book Architecture and Performance Analysis of DIRSMIN a Fault tolerant Switch Using Dilated Reduced stage MIN

Download or read book Architecture and Performance Analysis of DIRSMIN a Fault tolerant Switch Using Dilated Reduced stage MIN written by Arun K. Somani and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "We develop and analyze a dilated high performance fault tolerant fast packet multistage interconnection network (MIN) in this paper. In this new design, the links at the input and the output stages of a dilated banyan-based MIN are rearranged to create multiple routes for each source-destination pair in the network after removing one stage in the network. These multiple paths are link- and node-disjoint. Fault tolerance at low latency is achieved by sending multiple copies of each input packet simultaneously using different routes and different priorities. This guarantees that high throughput is maintained even in the presence of faults. Throughput is analyzed using simulation and analysis and we show that the new design has considerably higher performance in the presence of a faulty switching element (SE) or link in comparison to dilated networks. We also analyze the reliability and show that the new design has superior reliability in comparison to competing proposals."

Book Prevention of Hot Spots in Packet switched Multistage Interconnection Networks

Download or read book Prevention of Hot Spots in Packet switched Multistage Interconnection Networks written by Jyh-Charn Liu and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under the existing schemes, the network exhibits a reasonable performance only when the hot access rate is not very high, but severe congestion result when the hot access rate is high. By contrast, under our scheme the network has virtually no performance loss for a moderate hot access rate, and a slightly degraded, yet sustained, network performance results when the hot access rate is very high."
