Book A Study of Nanosecond Pulse Techniques in Radar Transmission

Download or read book A Study of Nanosecond Pulse Techniques in Radar Transmission written by Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study is made of important subsystems for high energy, wide instantaneous bandwidth radar transmitters. The relative merits of direct short pulse operation and pulse compression techniques to obtain high range resolution are explored. Included are the present and predicted capabilities of pulse modulators and r-f sources, design information on electrical breakdown and attenuation of transmission lines, effects of high peak and average power on microwave window materials, and the effects of propagation parameter anomalies on wide bandwidth radar transmissions. Appropriate supporting material such as an introduction to special analytical techniques, and a survey of wideband radar receivers is also included. (Author).

Book NANOSECOND PULSE TECHNIQUES

Download or read book NANOSECOND PULSE TECHNIQUES written by Michael A. Fanuele and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As part of a USAECOM program to study the feasibility of applying high resolution techniques to combat surveillance radars, selected electronic switching devices capable of generating nanosecond pulses were investigated and certain operational characteristics determined. These devices were: hydrogen thyratrons, switching transistors, avalanche transistors, and snap-off diodes. Pulses were generated down to one nanosecond at pulse repetition frequencies up to 50 megacycles. Hydrogen thyratrons and avalanche transistors were used in modulators to produce RF pulses approximately ten nanoseconds wide. Further investigations into the various schemes for developing nanosecond pulses are recommended as well as efforts toward development of additional nanosecond pulse techniques. (Author).

Book Atmospheric Effects on Radar Target Identification and Imaging

Download or read book Atmospheric Effects on Radar Target Identification and Imaging written by H. Jeske and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Advanced Study Institute (ASI) under discussion was initiated by the "Special Programme Panel on Radio meteorology" of the Scientific Affairs Division of NATO. The domain of this panel - and consequently the topics of their former ASI-~rogrammes - is the influ ence of the non-ionized atmosphere on electromagnetic wave propagation, its prediction and its use as a re mote sensing technique. It is the final goal to inform radio and radar engineers about the various defects caused by the propagation medium atmosphere. Today there exist high-sensitive radar systems which can pro vide identification and produce images of distant ob jects very accurately by measuring a) the effect of the target on the shape of a short radar pulse, or b) the wave front (phase and amplitude distribution) and its orientation in space. But usuallv the radar-to-target path is through the inhomogeneous and turbulent atmo sphere and so the absolut limits of the system are very often determined by this atmosphere. It was the plan of this ASI to arrange an interdisciplinary information exchange between radar experts and propagation specia lists in order to get a better understanding of the susceptibility to atmospheric effects and to develope new methods that will reduce or correct these errors. The lectures given and especially the intensive dis cussions during the workshop sessions contributed to this aim.
