Current mining practice requires several hours of lost production per shift waiting for the fumes and gasses created by the blasting process to dissipate to a safe level before work recommences. As such this study was conducted to find alternative methods of ventilating the mine. The report is based on a series of ventilation surveys, which were required to determine the quantity and direction of flow, as well as any variables which altered the airflow. From this data, a computer simulated model was established on VMATE. Further simulations were conducted to determine a suitable method of ventilating the mine, with the emphasis on the results produced by VMA TE, the cost of implementing the solution, the required development, the time period required for implementation and the Victorian Health and Safety Regulations for mine ventilation." -- Abstract/Synopsis.
