Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The differential cross sections for the production of photons in Z→[mu]+[mu]-[gamma] decays are presented as a function of the transverse energy of the photon and its separation from the nearest muon. The data for these measurements are collected with the CMS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb-1 of pp collisions at √s=7 TeV delivered by the CERN LHC. The cross sections are compared to simulations with powheg and pythia, where pythia is used to simulate parton showers and final-state photons. These simulations match the data to better than 5%.

Book Study of Hadronic Final States of Z Boson Decays

Download or read book Study of Hadronic Final States of Z Boson Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have studied hadronic final states produced in the decays of Z bosons using the Mark II detector at SLC. We have measured the distributions of global shape parameters, inclusive charged particle distributions, charge particle multiplicity and jet multiplicity. The results are compared to predictions of QCD-based models optimized at the PEP energy. The data and models agree within the present statistical precision. We have also investigated a new method to determine the QCD scale parameter [Lambda]{sub {ovr MS}} using differential jet multiplicity. 9 refs., 5 figs.

This book was released on 1993-08-12 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By adopting the approach of simulating actual morning report sessions experienced by hospital doctors, Clinical Case Studies in Pediatrics provides a compendium of commonly seen types of pediatrics cases that require hospital admission. Each case study is presented by description of indication of admission to the hospital, the physical examination and laboratory test results, followed by a differential diagnosis, discussion of the differential diagnosis, and finally an in-depth discussion of the actual diagnosis. Study and review questions, which will help medical students or pediatricians-in-training to apply their knowledge, are also included. This book will not only be useful to medical students, it can also be a handy reference for pediatricians and doctors-in-training.

Book Z Degree Yields Hadrons in SDC

Book excerpt: We report on a study of hadronic Z° decays at high P{sub t}(P{sub t}>500 GeV/c), at 40 TeV CM energy. Our goal here is to understand the effects of the kinematics of Z° decay, especially the Lorentz boost, on detection issues. We used an ISAJET sample of Drell Yan events, requiring the Z° to have pseudorapidity ([eta]) in ( -1.5,1.5) and P{sub t}>500 GeV/c. ISAJET forces the Z° to decay to two primary partons, which then cascade by gluon and quark emission to stable hadrons. We excluded Z° 2![nu]{bar {nu}} decays. In about 10% of the hadronic decays, significant energy is lost due to neutrino emission from heavy quarks, so that the hadronic mass is significantly less than the Z° mass generated; these events were not explicitly removed. We treated muons like other hadrons, assuming that high P{sub t} muons could be identified and corrected for. For this study we retained only the stable daughter particles in Z° decay, labelled according to their parton parentage (Jet 1 or 2''). We ignored the particles from the underlying event and from other final state jets. (These contributions, along with other non-Z° noise'', can be explicitly added back for relevant studies.) Finally, we note that the Z° decay angular distribution is approximately flat for these events, not peaked at 90 deg. as in Higgs 2!Z°Z°; this will have little effect on our conclusions. To avoid very asymmetric decays, we required each of the two jets to satisfy P{sub t}> 100 GeV/c.

Book Measurements of Hadronic Decays of Z Bosons

Download or read book Measurements of Hadronic Decays of Z Bosons written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Z° bosons have been produced by collisions of longitudinally polarized electrons with unpolarized positrons at the SLAC Linear Collider and their decays have been recorded by the SLD experiment. We present preliminary measurements of the properties of the resulting Z° decays into multi-hadronic final states. We find good agreement with the predictions of perturbative QCD and fragmentation models.

Book QCD Radiation in Top Antitop and Z Jets Final States

Download or read book QCD Radiation in Top Antitop and Z Jets Final States written by Kiran Joshi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-12 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis contains new research in both experimental and theoretical particle physics, making important contributions in each. Two analyses of collision data from the ATLAS experiment at the LHC are presented, as well as two phenomenological studies of heavy coloured resonances that could be produced at the LHC. The first data analysis was the measurement of top quark-antiquark production with a veto on additional jet activity. As the first detector-corrected measurement of jet activity in top-antitop events it played an important role in constraining the theoretical modelling, and ultimately reduced these uncertainties for ATLAS's other top-quark measurements by a factor of two. The second data analysis was the measurement of Z+2jet production and the observation of the electroweak vector boson fusion (VBF) component. As the first observation of VBF at a hadron collider, this measurement demonstrated new techniques to reliably extract VBF processes and paved the way for future VBF Higgs measurements. The first phenomenological study developed a new technique for identifying the colour of heavy resonances produced in proton-proton collisions. As a by-product of this study an unexpected and previously unnoticed correlation was discovered between the probability of correctly identifying a high-energy top and the colour structure of the event it was produced in. The second phenomenological study explored this relationship in more detail, and could have important consequences for the identification of new particles that decay to top quarks.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: EPS - High Energy Physics '89 presents the proceeding of the International Europhysics Conference on High Energy physics, held in Madrid, Spain, on September 6–13, 1989. This book outlines several topics on the interface between cosmology/astrophysics and particle physics. Organized into two parts encompassing 181 chapters, this compilation of papers begins with an overview of the implications of the cosmic light element abundances. This text then examines the various aspects of lattice field theory. Other chapters consider the theoretical evidence of a fundamental length in string theory and outline the main features of the higher order corrections to the heavy quark inclusive cross section. This book discusses as well the theory of heavy quark production in hadron collision. The final chapter deals with the idea of low-energy supersymmetry, which relates the scale of supersymmetry breaking to the origin and stability of the electroweak scale. This book is a valuable resource for astrophysicists, physicists, and scientists.
