Book NSCA s Guide to Program Design

Download or read book NSCA s Guide to Program Design written by NSCA -National Strength & Conditioning Association and published by Human Kinetics. This book was released on 2011-12-05 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NSCA's Guide to Program Design offers the most current information, guidance, and protocols from respected scientists and practitioners with expertise in strength and conditioning program design. Developed by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), this text offers strength and conditioning professionals a scientific basis for developing training programs for specific athletes at specific times of year. Straightforward and accessible, NSCA’s Guide to Program Design presents a detailed examination of considerations and challenges in developing a program for each key fitness component and fitness performance goal. Editor Jay Hoffman and his team of contributors have assembled an exceptional reference for practicing professionals and a valuable educational resource for new professionals and students preparing for certification. This authoritative text moves beyond the simple template presentation of program design to help readers grasp the reasons and procedures for sequencing training in a safe, sport-specific manner. The text offers 20 tables that are sample workouts or training plans for athletes in a variety of sports, technique photos and instructions for select drills, and a sample annual training plan that shows how to assemble all the pieces previously presented. Plus, extensive references offer starting points for continued study and professional enrichment. NSCA’s Guide to Program Design progresses sequentially through the program design process. It begins by examining the athlete needs assessment process as well as performance testing considerations and selection. Next, performance-related information on both dynamic warm-up and static stretching is discussed and dynamic warm-up protocols and exercises are presented. Then it reveals an in-depth by-chapter look at program design for resistance, power, anaerobic, endurance, agility, speed, and balance and stability training. For each, considerations and adaptations are examined, strategies and methods are discussed, and evidence-based information on program development is presented. The final two chapters help you put it all together with a discussion of training integration, periodization, and implementation. In addition, a sample annual training plan illustrates how to integrate each of the key fitness components into a cohesive yearlong program. As a bonus, a sample annual training plan is provided on our website so you can create your own training plans. The fitness, safety, and performance of athletes reflect the importance of continued education in the science of strength and conditioning. NSCA’s Guide to Program Design helps bridge the gap between scientist and practitioner by providing coaches and other strength and conditioning professionals with evidence-based information and applications. Sharing the latest in proven research, NSCA’s Guide to Program Design helps readers remain on the cutting edge of athletic performance. NSCA’s Guide to Program Design is part of the Science of Strength and Conditioning series. Developed with the expertise of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), this series of texts provides the guidelines for converting scientific research into practical application. The series covers topics such as tests and assessments, program design, and nutrition. Earn continuing education credits/units! Book The Effect of Dynamic Warm Up with and Without the Use of the Vertimax on Athletic Performance in Collegiate Athletes

Download or read book The Effect of Dynamic Warm Up with and Without the Use of the Vertimax on Athletic Performance in Collegiate Athletes written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research suggests that moderate to high intensity dynamic warm up exercises can enhance the excitability of the fast twitch muscle fibers through Post-Activation Potentiation (PAP), and prime them to play a greater role during jumping and sprinting. The purpose of this study was to determine if VertiMax jumps executed at the end of a normal dynamic exercise warm up will signifcantly improve short term athletic performance. Twenty participants were randomly placed in one of 5 groups for the duration of the study. The subjects performed one of the following warm-ups determined by random selection: dynamic warm-up (DW) or a dynamic warm up plus VertiMax jumps (DWV). On Day 2 all the subjects participated in the opposite warm-up routine then what they performed on Day 1. Each session concluded with vertical jump and lane agility testing. No significant difference from DW to DWV for vertical jump was found [t(19) = 1.242, p > .05]. No significant difference from DWLA to DWVLA was found [t(19) = 1.082, p> .05]. The mean on the DWVVERT was 26.13 inches (sd=4.37), and the mean on the DWVERT was 25.83 inches (sd=4.55). The mean on the DWVLA was 11.03 seconds (sd = .77) and the mean on the DWLA was 11.13 seconds (sd = .65). It was concluded that a warm-up that includes a high intensity activity at the end of a dynamic warm up does not improve vertical jump or agility greater than dynamic warm up alone.

B. Laxmikanth Rathod and published by Ashok Yakkaldevi. This book was released on 2022-02-04 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sports in the present day have become extremely competitive as the previous records are being broken whenever there is competition. It is not mere the participation or few days of practice that brings an individual victory, but it is the continuous hard work of training right from the childhood, and a strong Anthropometry variables influences the performance. Today’s sports person faces unique challenges. The standards are higher; the competition is tougher, the stakes are greater and the attention overwhelming in these days. Coaches’, physical educationists and sports scientists have always expressed a great need to know more about those Anthropometry variables, which are helpful in improving the motor skill of the players. Today’s world is a world of competition, the rivalry to reach top and excel each other is intense. That every aspect that contributes for the excellence is carefully looked into and one of such aspects is the selection of the right person for the right event in sports and games. Normally the choice of selection is given to a player or the athletes. The players without knowing their inherent potential make wrong choices because of their wrong selection, and hence the individual concerned is not able to reach the top of the ladder (Gangopadhyay, 1993). Man, by nature, is highly competitive and in pursuit of high performance; He/she has always been striving to jump higher and farther, to run faster and to demonstrate greater strength and skill. Physical fitness places emphasis on more and more activity (Uppal, 1992).

  • Publisher : Human Kinetics
  • Release : 2018-12-28
  • ISBN : 1492572640
  • Pages : 216 pages

Download or read book The Warm Up written by Ian Jeffreys and published by Human Kinetics. This book was released on 2018-12-28 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Athletes do not all train the same way, but it is rare to see any athlete—at any level—exercise or compete without warming up. Although the warm-up can take many forms, smart coaches and athletes know that the warm-up should be a part of any training session. The Warm-Up is the first book to describe the science of the warm-up and provide guidelines to maximize its effectiveness through the process of constructing effective RAMP-based warm-ups. The RAMP system—Raise, Activate, Mobilize, and Potentiate—looks at the warm-up not only as preparation for the upcoming session, but also as tool for athletic development that can cultivate the skills and movement capacities needed to excel in sport. RAMP has become a standard warm-up system recommended by the United Kingdom Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA) and is included in professional resources developed by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). The Warm-Up provides a library of activities that can be used to maximize the effectiveness of warm-ups within the structure of the RAMP system. Coaches and athletes can incorporate activities to develop warm-ups that directly contribute to performance, or they can use one of five sample RAMP warm-up programs, which are appropriate for a variety of sports and athlete training levels. More than 160 diagrams and photos enhance the text and provide direction for the drills and exercises, and 17 video clips demonstrate movement patterns of the Raise phase. Plus, exercise and drill finders make it easy to find the exercises best suited for specific needs. It’s time to make the warm-up part of the long-term athlete development plan. The Warm-Up will help coaches and athletes use the RAMP system to make warm-ups a more effective part of training that contributes to better performance.
