Book Stochastic Flood Forecasting System

Download or read book Stochastic Flood Forecasting System written by Renata J. Romanowicz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-29 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the novel formulation and development of a Stochastic Flood Forecasting System, using the Middle River Vistula basin in Poland as a case study. The system has a modular structure, including models describing the rainfall-runoff and snow-melt processes for tributary catchments and the transformation of a flood wave within the reach. The sensitivity and uncertainty analysis of the elements of the study system are performed at both the calibration and verification stages. The spatial and temporal variability of catchment land use and river flow regime based on analytical studies and measurements is presented. A lumped parameter approximation to the distributed modelling of river flow is developed for the purpose of flow forecasting. Control System based emulators (Hammerstein-Wiener models) are applied to on-line data assimilation. Medium-range probabilistic weather forecasts (ECMWF) and on-line observations of temperature, precipitation and water levels are used to prolong the forecast lead time. The potential end-users will also benefit from a description of social vulnerability to natural hazards in the study area.

Book A Conceptual Method of Snowmelt Runoff Forecast

Download or read book A Conceptual Method of Snowmelt Runoff Forecast written by A. K. Bagchi and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper presents a method of calculating Snow depth by using Landsat imagery and such hydrometeorological data as may be available in a mountainous basin. Only one point data has been used. It is thus possible to get an estimate of snowmelt portion of runoff, that would be available. This forecast can be done on the day the snowmelt season starts and can be corrected and updated on subsequent days.

Book Principles of Snow Hydrology

Download or read book Principles of Snow Hydrology written by David R. DeWalle and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2008-07-03 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of Snow Hydrology describes the factors that control the accumulation, melting and runoff of water from seasonal snowpacks over the surface of the earth. The book addresses not only the basic principles governing snow in the hydrologic cycle, but also the latest applications of remote sensing, and techniques for modeling streamflow from snowmelt across large mixed land-use river basins. Individual chapters are devoted to climatology and distribution of snow, snowpack energy exchange, snow chemistry, ground-based measurements and remote sensing of snowpack characteristics, snowpack management, and modeling snowmelt runoff. Many chapters have review questions and problems with solutions available online. This book is a reference book for practicing water resources managers and a text for advanced hydrology and water resources courses which span fields such as engineering, earth sciences, meteorology, biogeochemistry, forestry and range management, and water resources planning.
