Download or read book The History of Neuroscience in Autobiography written by Larry R. Squire and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-10-16 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the second volume of autobiographical essays by distinguished senior neuroscientists; it is part of the first collection of neuroscience writing that is primarily autobiographical. As neuroscience is a young discipline, the contributors to this volume are truly pioneers of scientific research on the brain and spinal cord. This collection of fascinating essays should inform and inspire students and working scientists alike. The general reader interested in science may also find the essays absorbing, as they are essentially human stories about commitment and the pursuit of knowledge. The contributors included in this volume are: Lloyd M. Beidler, Arvid Carlsson, Donald R. Griffin, Roger Guillemin, Ray Guillery, Masao Ito. Martin G. Larrabee, Jerome Lettvin, Paul D. MacLean, Brenda Milner, Karl H. Pribram, Eugene Roberts and Gunther Stent. Key Features * Second volume in a collection of neuroscience writing that is primarily autobiographical * Contributors are senior neuroscientists who are pioneers in the field

Download or read book The Rhesus Monkey Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates written by George Paxinos and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2023-12-22 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rhesus Monkey Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates is the most comprehensive and accurate atlas of the monkey brain. The fourth edition of this classic book is a complete revision featuring many improvements and upgrades. Constructed by the established leaders in neuroanatomical atlas development, the new edition will continue to be the indispensable resource for all scientists working on the primate nervous system. - 141 completely revised coronal diagrams and accompanying colour photographic plates spaced at approximately 120 μm intervals - 60 colour photographic coronal plates of SMI immunoreactivity with completely revised delineations - Includes MR images at approximately the same levels as the coronal diagrams - Follows the same nomenclature and abbreviations as the mouse, rat, chicken, marmoset and human brain atlases, with indications of correspondence to alternative macaque nomenclatures - This atlas was used for the delineation and nomenclature of MRI-based macaque brain atlases for neuroimaging analyses, including the SARM
Download or read book The Squirrel Monkey written by Leonard A. Rosenblum and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-11-06 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Squirrel Monkey is devoted to the common South American squirrel monkey, Saimiri sciureus. In light of the growing number of squirrel monkeys being established each year in many laboratories, there appeared the need to pool existing knowledge in concise form. The present volume, the first of its kind on any single primate, attempts to meet this need. The topics that have been selected cover thoroughly areas of research in which Saimiri has been utilized. This material ranges widely from taxonomy and behavioral studies through husbandry and clinical management of the species, to investigations in aerospace medicine and in a number of basic biological sciences. Since the problems encountered in the squirrel monkey, though sometimes taking a particular form, are not unique in principle, the authors have attempted to provide an appropriate phylogenetic context for their material. It is hoped as a result that this compendium may serve as a valuable source of information during various phases of work on other subjects of primatological and comparative biological investigation as well.
Download or read book A Combined MRI and Histology Atlas of the Rhesus Monkey Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates written by Kadharbatcha S. Saleem and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-11-21 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This atlas maps the detailed architectonic subdivisions of the cortical and subcortical areas in the macaque monkey brain using high-resolution magnetic resonance (MR) images and the corresponding histology sections in the same animal. This book presents the detailed mapping of the architectonic areas in the horizontal plane of sections with reference to the MRI that has not been reported previously in macaque monkeys. In the second part of the atlas, the coronal plane is presented using the same technique. A third part shows the quick identification of several important cortical and subcortical areas (around 30 areas) in horizontal, coronal and sagittal MR images. This atlas is unlike anything else available as it includes and compares each section to imaging data. This is a significant progress, as the vast majority of research in the field now routinely work with fMRI images.· Provides the first combined MRI and Histology maps of the cortical and subcortical areas of any non-human primate species· Shows the first detailed delineations of the cortical and subcortical areas in both horizontal and coronal planes in the same animal using five different staining methods· Illustrates the entire dorsoventral extent of the left hemisphere in 47 horizontal MRI and photomicrographs matched with 47 detailed diagrams (Chapter 3) · Presents the full rostrocaudal extent of the right hemisphere in 76 coronal MRI and photomicrographs, and 76 corresponding drawings (Chapter 4)· Illustrates the selected cortical and subcortical areas in horizontal, coronal and sagittal MRI planes (Chapter 5)· Provides the sterotaxic grid derived from the in-vivo MR image· Likely to become a standard reference for anatomical, physiological, and functional imaging studies in primates (fMRI, PET and MEG)
