Book A Statement of the Trinitarian Principle Or Law of Tri Personality Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Statement of the Trinitarian Principle Or Law of Tri Personality Classic Reprint written by Ephraim Langdon Frothingham and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-21 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Statement of the Trinitarian Principle, or Law of Tri-Personality The following statement of the Trinitarian Principle, or Law of tri-personality, was made by the writer many years since as the foundation of a Universal Science, or form of Universal Philosophy a work that has since then occupied a portion of his time, and which he is now preparing for publication, as The Marriage of p/tosopfiy and Faith. The statement here made is a logical argument based upon self-evident truths demonstrating that fact of Tri Personality in God which has always been assumed dogmatically by the Church as the foundation of its theology; but which being, as there stated, poetical, and not rational, could not serve as a foundation for Philosophy, or even as a permanent basis for Theology. Although the foundation upon which this statement of Tri - Personality rests is partly hypothetical, as it is also self-evident, this logical demonstration ought to be re garded as sufficient, and the Law of Tri - Personality thus established be received without question as the only true ground of Philosophy, and the only rational foundation for Christian Theology. It is not, however. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This carefully crafted e-artnow ebook is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents._x000D_ Excerpt:_x000D_ "Under the influence of Ritschl and his Kantian relativism, many of our teachers and preachers have swung off into a practical denial of Christ's deity and of his atonement. We seem upon the verge of a second Unitarian defection that will break up churches and compel secessions, in a worse manner than did that of Channing and Ware a century ago. American Christianity recovered from that disaster only by vigorously asserting the authority of Christ and the inspiration of the Scriptures. We need a new vision of the Savior like that which Paul saw on the way to Damascus and John saw on the isle of Patmos, to convince us that Jesus is lifted above space and time, that his existence antedated creation, that he conducted the march of Hebrew history, that he was born of a virgin, suffered on the cross, rose from the dead, and now lives forevermore, the Lord of the universe, the only God with whom we have to do, our Savior here and our Judge hereafter. Without a revival of this faith our churches will become secularized, mission enterprise will die out, and the candlestick will be removed out of its place as it was with the seven churches of Asia, and as it has been with the apostate churches of New England."_x000D_ Contents:_x000D_ Idea of Theology_x000D_ Method of Theology_x000D_ The Existence of God_x000D_ Origin of Our Idea of God's Existence_x000D_ Corroborative Evidences of God's Existence_x000D_ The Scriptures A Revelation from God_x000D_ The Nature, Decrees, and Works of God_x000D_ The Attributes of God_x000D_ Doctrine of the Trinity_x000D_ The Decrees of God_x000D_ The Works of God_x000D_ Anthropology, Or the Doctrine of Man:_x000D_ The Original State of Man_x000D_ Sin, Or Man's State Of Apostasy_x000D_ Soteriology_x000D_ Christology_x000D_ The Reconciliation of Man to God_x000D_ Ecclesiology, Or the Doctrine of the Church_x000D_ Eschatology…

Dr. Poythress also explains how the penalties of the law prefigure the destruction of sin and guilt through Jesus. -- Publisher's statement

Download or read book Paul and the Trinity written by Wesley Hill and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2015-03-27 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul s ways of speaking about God, Jesus, and the Spirit are intricately intertwined: talking about any one of the three, for Paul, implies reference to all of them together. However, much current Pauline scholarship discusses Paul s God-, Christ-, and Spirit-language without reference to trinitarian theology. In contrast to that trend, Wesley Hill argues in this book that later, post-Pauline trinitarian theologies represent a better approach, opening a fresh angle on Paul s earlier talk about God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Spirit. Hill looks critically at certain well-known discussions in the field of New Testament studies -- those by N. T. Wright, Richard Bauckham, Larry Hurtado, and others -- in light of patristic and contemporary trinitarian theologies, resulting in an innovative approach to an old set of questions. Adeptly integrating biblical exegesis and historical-systematic theology, Hill s Paul and the Trinity shows how trinitarian theologies illumine interpretive difficulties in a way that more recent theological concepts have failed to do.

Book Knowing and the Trinity

Download or read book Knowing and the Trinity written by Vern S. Poythress and published by P & R Publishing. This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Once we know from the Bible that God is Trinitarian, we can begin to notice reflections of his Trinitarian character in both general and special revelation. Vern Poythress demonstrates that a number of triads of perspectives (coherent groups of three viewpoints) show analogies to the Trinity. Understanding these analogies helps readers to perceive both the Bible and the world as creations of our Trinitarian God.

Book excerpt: This book surveys the ways analytic theologians have sought to understand the Christian doctrine of the Trinity. Applying the tools of recent analytic metaphysics, logic, and epistemology, they seek to provide a self-consistent and orthodox way to understand the trinitarian claims of catholic traditions. This issue goes to the heart of Christian belief, and is central to theological disagreements between Christians, Jews, and Muslims.Supplementary discussions survey the history of Trinity theories, unitarian Christian theologies, and Judaic and Islamic objections to Trinity theories. There is an extensive bibliography. This book is an authorized reprint of the article "Trinity" and its supplementary documents, from the online Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy. http://plato.stanford.edu/

Book excerpt: The truth of God is rich and multifaceted. Though a coherent body of revelation, the Bible comes to us through a variety of inspired authors, metaphors, and themes highlighting the many facets of God's truth. Likewise, our theological formulations capture manifold emphases--distinct perspectives on the whole--which collectively enable us to gain a fuller understanding of the truth. Poythress explains, We use what we have gained from one perspective to reinforce, correct, or improve what we understood through another. I call this procedure 'symphonic theology' because it is analogous to a blending of various musical instruments to express the variation of a symphonic theme. The implications of this approach are far-reaching for theology and praxis.
