Book excerpt: This book is an assembly of poems (word images) and pictures (visual images) used to illustrate the poems. So, I called it Images of Life. My poetry is an attempt to express my worldview. First, of my life with Jesus Christ and what I think about society. Then, my experiences and my thoughts and perceptions of those experiences. I think beliefs make us who and what we are, and that our perception of our experience has as great an influence on us as the actual experience itselfperhaps greater. I have always been a visual person. I love taking pictures. I enjoy the art and science of photography. In this book I tried to create something that appeals to ones eye and mind. I wanted to write something thought provokingsomething that would have meaning. My hope is that God will be glorified and that people will read and enjoy this book as much I enjoyed creating it. So, to those who will read this book, I express my hope that you enjoy it and that you gain from reading my book.

Book Couples in the Bible

Download or read book Couples in the Bible written by Jim Schnorrenberg and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2014-10-29 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Read and apply this book and build a strong marriage. Real stories. Real couples. We see it allsuccess, heartbreak, evil, flaws, love. There is no shortage of good marriage books. Most are topical studies of marital issues and how to resolve them. They are great resources. This book goes right to the core of a biblical marriage. It is less of mans opinions and more on what God said about marriage. The Bible gives us short accounts of couples, but not a complete account of any one couple. It supplies us with rich stories and insights of how they lived and loved. We know these people. In many ways, their lives are our lives. They are real people who fell in love, raised a family, argued, and grew old together (well, some of them did). God pulls back the curtain, and we see these couples warts and all. There is no sugar-coating, no spin job. We see people and couples in their best behavior and worst behavior. However, this is helpful to us as we can learn from both the good and the bad, and even the downright evil. Enjoy this book. Apply the biblical truths. I pray that this book may be the catalyst to save or strengthen your marriage. May you enjoy a lifetime of love!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has never been easy to preach about the cross and resurrection of Jesus, but difficulties today are particularly challenging. Hearers ask tough questions of the church and the Christian faith, and they are not satisfied by formulaic answers. People are often suspicious of doctrine and are attracted to a broad but vague or pluralistic spirituality rather than the classical claims of Christianity. In this climate, preachers often see preaching on the central events of the Christian story, the crucifixion and resurrection, as more of a problem than a possibility, more of a burden than a joy. They wonder not only how to preach the "old, old story" of cross and resurrection but whether they should preach these themes at all. This book addresses these concerns and shows preachers how to preach the cross and resurrection in fresh, culturally relevant ways that deepen Christian discipleship. Each chapter shows the relevance of preaching the cross for addressing a particular congregational concern. What has ironically become a stumbling block in the pulpit, the stone that preachers often reject--preaching on the cross and resurrection of Jesus--can serve as the cornerstone for building up the congregation for discipleship in our world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A recent movement in modern religious thought believes that the place to start in theology is at the end--eschatology. At a critical time in history, when many are unsure of the future of faith in a secular age, here is a call for believers to participate in God's activity in the future tense. The basic theme in these pages is the idea of the future--in the language of Christian hope and in the interpretation of history. The rediscovery of the role of eschatology in the preaching of Jesus and of early Christians, says Dr. Braaten, has been one of the most important events of recent theological history. Eschatology has not always been taken seriously. Theologians have often defined it so that the dimension of the future was allowed to slip into an eternal present. God was thus viewed only in vertical terms--as being "above us." The author feels that this loss of hope in the future precipitated the crisis known as the death-of-God movement. In this book Dr. Braaten joins those thinkers who are looking to eschatology as a point of departure for a total recasting of the Christian message. He presents a constructive and systematic outline of the theology of the future, and puts forth an understanding of God--shared with early Christianity--as being "ahead of us." The thrust of this theology of the future is an ethic of revolutionary change, derived from the Christian vision of the kingdom of God. Christianity's eschatological faith is shown to be closely connected to the revolutionary concerns of the modern world, both as the sponsor of its driving images and as a companion in the struggle for its realization. The final chapter turns to an ethic of revolution, based on the politics of hope.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: She’s unconventional . . . Christmas is Lady Catherine “Kitty” Egerton’s favorite time of year, and even though the temperature is mild and there’s little hope for snow, life couldn’t be better. Charles Dickens’s new novel is proving to be all the rage. Even more diverting, she’s accepted her brother’s invitation to travel to London with a childhood friend on the London and Birmingham Railway, to inspect a workhouse on Saffron Hill. The journey allows Kitty to help the poor, and to access the bookstore where Dickens’s latest book is sold. But in an irony of fate, the book is out of stock, and she shamefully accepts several copies from a mysterious donor, risking her reputation. He’s not who he says he is . . . Bartholomew “Bart” Fernsby netted his worth speculating on the railroad. But to whom much is given, more is required. Haunted by a scandalous past and determined not to let history repeat itself, Bart takes on the plight of the East End by becoming one of the founding members of a Poor Law Union seeking to bring education to the poorest sections of London. To that end, he’s enlisted a friend to help raise funds for Field Lane Ragged School, a workhouse Charles Dickens visited three months earlier. The children housed there idolize the writer, and as a gift to them, Bart purchases multiple copies of A Christmas Carol with plans to distribute them to those who’ve learned how to read. There’s only one problem—Bart hates Christmas. Can a sprig of mistletoe deliver a miracle?
