Book Ions in Solution and their Solvation

Download or read book Ions in Solution and their Solvation written by Yizhak Marcus and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-08-03 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book starts with an exposition of the relevant properties of ions and continues with a description of their solvation in the gas phase. The book contains a large amount of factual information in the form of extensive tables of critically examined data and illustrations of the points made throughout. It covers: the relevant properties of prospective liquid solvents for the ions the process of the transfer of ions from the gas phase into a liquid where they are solvated various aspects of the solutions of the ions, such as structural and transport ones and the effects of the ions on the solvent dynamics and structure what happens in cases where the solvent is a mixture selective solvation takes place applications of the concepts expounded previously in fields such as electrochemistry, hydrometallurgy, separation chemistry, biophysics, and synthetic methods

Book Studies in Ion Solvation in Mixed Solvents

Download or read book Studies in Ion Solvation in Mixed Solvents written by and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using the appropriate chemical cells, the free energies to transfer of the pairs of ions H(+)Br ( - ) and H(+)I( - ) in the standard state have been determined for transfers from water to 20% mixtures of dioxan and water at 25 degrees. A byproduct of the measurements is the dissociation constant of boric acid in the mixed solvent. Considerable experimental difficulties have been encountered and overcome in these measurements. Book Solvation Ionic and Complex Formation Reactions in Non Aqeuous Solvents

Download or read book Solvation Ionic and Complex Formation Reactions in Non Aqeuous Solvents written by K. Burger and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solvation, Ionic and Complex Formation Reactions in Non-Aqueous Solvents: Experimental Methods for their Investigation presents the available methods and their particular value in investigating solutions composed of non-aqueous solvents. This book is composed of 10 chapters and begins with a brief description of the complexity of the interactions possible n solutions. The subsequent chapters deal with a classification of the solvents and empirical solvent strength scales based on various experimental parameters, together with various correlations empirically describing the solvent effect. Other chapters present the methods for the purification of solvents and ways of checking their purity, as well as the individual results achieved during investigations of the solvent effect, particularly the general regularities recognized. The remaining chapters provide a review of the coordination chemistry of non-aqueous solutions. This book will prove useful to analytical and inorganic chemists.

Book Solvent Solute Interactions A Spectroscopic Study

Download or read book Solvent Solute Interactions A Spectroscopic Study written by Thomas R. Stengle and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary object of the research was the elucidation of the solvation of halide ions in mixtures of water with dipolar aprotic solvents. Preliminary results on chloride ion had indicated that there was no preferential solvation of the ion DMSO-H2O mixtures, however, the contact solvation shell of the ion did contain an excess concentration of water in CH3CN-H2) mixtures. The presence of excess solvating water in the CH3CN-H2O system was found to be due to the large activity coefficient of water in that solvent mixture. The reasons for the lack of an intrinsic preference of the halide ion for water have been explored. (Author).

Book Ion Solvation

    Book Details:
  • Author : Y. Marcus
  • Publisher : John Wiley & Sons
  • Release : 1985
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 328 pages

Download or read book Ion Solvation written by Y. Marcus and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1985 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical reactions generally take place in solution and often involve ions. The behaviour of ions in solution, manifested through ion solvation, is therefore of prime interest in chemistry. This book considers in depth the phenomenology of ion solvation and the models and interpretations that have been proposed as the physical causes for the observed phenomena. It contains a thorough discussion of the statistical thermodynamic background of the solvation process from which a discussion of the actual thermodynamics is developed. This, in turn, serves as a background to the structural and kinetic features of ion solvation.
