I've supplied explanations on how to avoid these errors, and provided sentence drills to help adapt new speech habits. Speakers of Latin languages will find this concise program a constant revelation, and will quickly improve their American Accent. The lessons constantly review and incorporate all previously introduced concepts. In the hour it takes to go through this program, the accent of the foreign speaker is significantly reduced. "Accent Reduction for Spanish Speakers" focuses on the exact needs of the Spanish speaker, rapidly leading to clearer speech. This program is also extremely helpful for speakers of Portuguese and Italian. These lessons are supported and demonstrated by a series of YouTube videos, allowing the reader to follow along with the online program, internalizing both the theory and practical applications of the sound changes.

The police and secret service have him down as their main suspect, and in an effort to clear his name, he must embark on his own investigation into what really happened. Judy Hochberg draws on linguistic principles, Hispanic culture, and language history to answer questions such as: Why are so many Spanish verbs irregular? - Why does Spanish have different ways to say "you"? - Why is h silent? - Why doesn't Spanish use apostrophes? - Why does Castilian Spanish have the th sound? Packed with information, guidance, and links to further research, ¿Por qué? is an accessible study guide that is suitable for Spanish students, instructors, native speakers, and the general reader. It is a valuable supplementary text for serious students of Spanish at all levels, from beginning to advanced. ¿Por qué? also covers topics usually left to specialized books, including the evolution of Spanish, how children and adults learn Spanish, and the status of languages that co-exist with Spanish, from Catalan to Spanish sign language to the indigenous languages of Latin America.

Book A Complete Guide to Written Accent Marks in Spanish

Download or read book A Complete Guide to Written Accent Marks in Spanish written by Tom Mathews, Ph.D. and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-08-05 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the best explanation available for accent marks in Spanish; it falls elegantly between a brief introduction and an exhaustive compendium. My webpage on the use of accent marks in Spanish has for years been at or near the top of any "Google" search on the topic and I'm pleased that my explanation has been of use to teachers and students. Recently, I have received several requests for a version in print and I have sensed a need for some limited practice exercises. There are a number of short lessons on accent marks on the internet and most every Spanish textbook has a few pages on the topic at the end of an early chapter, but by and large none of these include enough detail or examples to make expert users of students. At the opposite extreme, the most recent Ortografia de la lengua espanola (2010) published by the Real Academia devotes a full 87 pages of small print to the subject. The goal in this volume is to be thorough but not overwhelming or pedantic. I aim to provide an explanation that is appropriate for students of Spanish with limited background in linguistics and to provide exercises of progressive difficulty (with answers) so that these same students can become adept, if not expert, at using accent marks in their writing.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brand new introductory textbook provides a thorough account of the Spanish language as it is actually pronounced, teaching students how to speak like native speakers. The book carefully describes the differing pronunciations of all of the major Spanish dialects, so students can see the differences in how Spanish is spoken around the world. This is also the first introductory text to carefully and systematically compare Spanish pronunciation to American English pronunciation, helping students connect what they are learning to what they already know.
