Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crossed-field Microwave Devices, Volume I: Principal Elements of Crossed-Field Devices focuses on the developments, trends, and approaches in the study of crossed-field microwave devices. The selection first offers information on periodic structures and cathode gun and its static characteristics. Discussions focus on circuits for traveling wave crossed-field tubes; effect of tolerance on interdigital lines; mode spectrum of strapped type magnetron; and electron gun optics and associated static characteristics of injection systems. The text then takes a look at noise and space-charge modes, including preoscillation phenomena in space-charge clouds below the main oscillation threshold; cutoff characteristics of the static magnetron diode; magnetron diode oscillations; and noise in crossed-field electron beams. The manuscript then examines the interaction of beams and circuits, as well as small and large signal theory and experiment. The selection is a valuable reference for readers interested in the elements of crossed-field microwave devices.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crossed-field Microwave Devices, Volume II: Principal Types of Crossed-Field Devices, Analysis of Oscillator System Performance, Regional Progress and Trends focuses on the progress and state of the art crossed-field microwave devices in theory and practice. The selection first offers information on injection type tubes and voltage tuned oscillators. Discussions focus on the principle of the injection type traveling wave tubes, delay lines, resistive wall amplifier, space-charge effects, and grid control of magnetrons. The text then takes a look at mechanically tuned oscillators and wide band and externally stabilized tunable oscillators. The publication examines fixed frequency magnetron oscillators and phasing by RF signals. Topics include conventional pulsed rising-sun magnetrons, long anode magnetrons, inverted magnetrons, eccentricity of the cathode in magnetrons, mutual synchronization, and modulation using phased oscillators. Frequency pushing, loading effects, and frequency modulation are also discussed. The selection is a vital reference for readers interested in crossed-field microwave devices.

Download or read book Reduction of Noise in Crossed field Microwave Amplifiers written by Niladri Raju Mantena and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The conditions for low-noise operation are established to be the following: (1) the use of a well-focused beam, (2) reduction of the diocotron gain of the gun and drift regions to a minimum possible value, (3) full exploitation of magnetic and space-change smoothing for maximum reduction of noise figure, (4) launching the beam very close to the circuit, (5) reducing the space-charge parameter S close to zero, (6) high power gain, and (7) minimizing the initial beam position fluctuations by reducing the cathode thickness. By combining optimum beam focusing, space-charge smoothing, and beam displacement, low noise figures of 10.5 db for the backward-wave amplifier and 18.4 db for the forward-wave amplifier have been obtained without using noise transducers. A better control of the above factors than was possible with the present experimental tube will result in still lower noise figures. With the noise transducing scheme added to the factors listed above, it should be possible to obtain extremely low noise figures as was done by Wadhwa and Van Duzer. (Author).
