Book excerpt: Here, published for the first time, are the complete proofs of the fundamental arithmetic duality theorems that have come to play an increasingly important role in number theory and arithmetic geometry. The text covers these theorems in Galois cohomology, ,tale cohomology, and flat cohomology and addresses applications in the above areas. The writing is expository and the book will serve as an invaluable reference text as well as an excellent introduction to the subject.
Download or read book The Evolution of the Slavic Dual written by Tatyana G. Slobodchikoff and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-10-04 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dual number in Slavic has always puzzled linguists. While some Slavic languages, such as Slovenian, have three distinct categories of number--singular (1), dual (2), and plural (3 or more) –other Slavic languages, such as Russian, have no dual number. Considering that all Slavic languages have evolved from a common Proto Slavic language, it is puzzling that there is such a difference in the category of number. In The Evolution of the Slavic Dual: A Biolinguistic Perspective, with the aid of tools from biolinguistics, Tatyana G. Slobodchikoff develops a new theory of Morphosyntactic Feature Economy within the distributed morphology framework. Using newly digitized corpora of Old East Slavic, Old Slovenian, and Old Sorbian manuscripts spanning from the eleventh century through the present time, this book presents a thorough analysis of the evolution of dual number in Slavic languages.
Download or read book Classical Algebraic Geometry written by Igor V. Dolgachev and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-08-16 with total page 653 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Algebraic geometry has benefited enormously from the powerful general machinery developed in the latter half of the twentieth century. The cost has been that much of the research of previous generations is in a language unintelligible to modern workers, in particular, the rich legacy of classical algebraic geometry, such as plane algebraic curves of low degree, special algebraic surfaces, theta functions, Cremona transformations, the theory of apolarity and the geometry of lines in projective spaces. The author's contemporary approach makes this legacy accessible to modern algebraic geometers and to others who are interested in applying classical results. The vast bibliography of over 600 references is complemented by an array of exercises that extend or exemplify results given in the book.
Download or read book Dualities and Representations of Lie Superalgebras written by Shun-Jen Cheng and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a systematic account of the structure and representation theory of finite-dimensional complex Lie superalgebras of classical type and serves as a good introduction to representation theory of Lie superalgebras. Several folklore results are rigorously proved (and occasionally corrected in detail), sometimes with new proofs. Three important dualities are presented in the book, with the unifying theme of determining irreducible characters of Lie superalgebras. In order of increasing sophistication, they are Schur duality, Howe duality, and super duality. The combinatorics of symmetric functions is developed as needed in connections to Harish-Chandra homomorphism as well as irreducible characters for Lie superalgebras. Schur-Sergeev duality for the queer Lie superalgebra is presented from scratch with complete detail. Howe duality for Lie superalgebras is presented in book form for the first time. Super duality is a new approach developed in the past few years toward understanding the Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand category of modules for classical Lie superalgebras. Super duality relates the representation theory of classical Lie superalgebras directly to the representation theory of classical Lie algebras and thus gives a solution to the irreducible character problem of Lie superalgebras via the Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials of classical Lie algebras.

Download or read book New Dualities of Supersymmetric Gauge Theories written by Jörg Teschner and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-17 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews a number of spectacular advances that have been made in the study of supersymmetric quantum field theories in the last few years. Highlights include exact calculations of Wilson loop expectation values, and highly nontrivial quantitative checks of the long-standing electric-magnetic duality conjectures The book starts with an introductory article presenting a survey of recent advances, aimed at a wide audience with a background and interest in theoretical physics. The following articles are written for advanced students and researchers in quantum field theory, string theory and mathematical physics, our goal being to familiarize these readers with the forefront of current research. The topics covered include recent advances in the classification and vacuum structure of large families of N=2 supersymmetric field theories, followed by an extensive discussion of the localisation method, one of the most powerful tools for exact studies of supersymmetric field theories. The quantities that have been studied in this way are partition functions, expectation values of line operators, and supersymmetric indices. The book also reviews recently discovered connections between SUSY field theories in four dimensions and two-dimensional conformal field theory. These connections have a counterpart in relations between three-dimensional gauge theories and Chern-Simons theory; the book’s closing chapters explore connections with string theory.

Book excerpt: Panini's Ashtadhyayi represents the first attempt in the history of the world to describe and analyse the components of a language on scientific lines. It has not only been universally acclaimed as the first and foremost specimen of Descriptive Grammar but has also been the chief source of inspiration for the linguist engaged in describing languages of different regions. To understand Sanskrit language, and especially that part of it which embodies the highest aspirations of ancient Aryan people, viz., the Brahmanas, Samhitas, Upanisads, it is absolutely necessary to have a complete knowledge of the grammar elaborated by Panini. Being a masterpiece of reasoning and artistic arrangement its study is bound to cultivate intellectual powers. Western scholars have described it as a wonderful specimen or a notable manifestation of Indian intelligence. This book is an English translation of Ashtadhyayi in two volumes and has won a unique position in the world of scholarship.

Download or read book Psychotechnical Method written by Emmanuel Xagorarakis and published by Emmanuel Xagorarakis. This book was released on 2015-02-07 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Memory is the basis which we use to live and function, in every subject of life. We need our memory about practical matters, and even about the sense and perception of who we are, and so on. Memory is the functional basis –our spiritual/mental capital– like money is. But with the difference that with money we cannot buy out everything, while with memory we can have the perception and the ability to function in any subject. So, memory is utilizable and working. Working Memory is a basic field of study for Cognitive Psychology. Our intelligence is dependent on how and how much we use our memory. The present Psychotechnical Method conquers the very core of the subject. Having located the elementary and absolute principles of mental functionality, I classify, analyze and combine them into a functional system. That is the Pentazeugon: five couples of statements/sentences comprising a psychotechnical system. It is applied in every issue of a person’s life, with specific application steps and ways. The logic of this system is thorough and tangible, with no references to personal data and principles. The Pentazeugon does not preoccupy the user with specific values. The Method is for strictly personal use. In your hands you hold the perfect mental “tool”, which bears no gaps or controversies and never fails its user! In the last pages of this manuscript there is the algorithm of the Method; the one-and-only algorithm offering accuracy and completeness of results, while at the same time it is not finalized! It is about the existential algorithm in the service of the human being.
Download or read book Applied Picard Lefschetz Theory written by V. A. Vasilʹev and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many important functions of mathematical physics are defined as integrals depending on parameters. The Picard-Lefschetz theory studies how analytic and qualitative properties of such integrals (regularity, algebraicity, ramification, singular points, etc.) depend on the monodromy of corresponding integration cycles. In this book, V. A. Vassiliev presents several versions of the Picard-Lefschetz theory, including the classical local monodromy theory of singularities and completeintersections, Pham's generalized Picard-Lefschetz formulas, stratified Picard-Lefschetz theory, and also twisted versions of all these theories with applications to integrals of multivalued forms. The author also shows how these versions of the Picard-Lefschetz theory are used in studying a variety ofproblems arising in many areas of mathematics and mathematical physics. In particular, he discusses the following classes of functions: volume functions arising in the Archimedes-Newton problem of integrable bodies; Newton-Coulomb potentials; fundamental solutions of hyperbolic partial differential equations; multidimensional hypergeometric functions generalizing the classical Gauss hypergeometric integral. The book is geared toward a broad audience of graduate students, research mathematiciansand mathematical physicists interested in algebraic geometry, complex analysis, singularity theory, asymptotic methods, potential theory, and hyperbolic operators.

Download or read book Dual Variational Approach to Nonlinear Diffusion Equations written by Gabriela Marinoschi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-28 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph explores a dual variational formulation of solutions to nonlinear diffusion equations with general nonlinearities as null minimizers of appropriate energy functionals. The author demonstrates how this method can be utilized as a convenient tool for proving the existence of these solutions when others may fail, such as in cases of evolution equations with nonautonomous operators, with low regular data, or with singular diffusion coefficients. By reducing it to a minimization problem, the original problem is transformed into an optimal control problem with a linear state equation. This procedure simplifies the proof of the existence of minimizers and, in particular, the determination of the first-order conditions of optimality. The dual variational formulation is illustrated in the text with specific diffusion equations that have general nonlinearities provided by potentials having various stronger or weaker properties. These equations can represent mathematical models to various real-world physical processes. Inverse problems and optimal control problems are also considered, as this technique is useful in their treatment as well.
