Book A Simplified and Improved Best Worst Method for Multi Criteria Decision Making

Download or read book A Simplified and Improved Best Worst Method for Multi Criteria Decision Making written by Mohit Kumar and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The best-worst method (BWM) is a well-known multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method that elicits judgements from a decision maker (DM) in the form of pairwise comparisons. There are two models of BWM that are widely used: non-linear and linear. The main drawback of the non-linear model is the non-uniqueness of the resulting weight set. A linear model gives a unique resulting weight set but with less accuracy than a non-linear model. In this paper, a simplified method is proposed that gives a unique weight set with the same accuracy as non-linear BWM. In the proposed method, first each weight set is associated with some consistent pairwise comparison system and a relationship is established between consistency values and optimal accuracy. Then an algorithm is developed for an optimal modification of the given pairwise comparison system to make it consistent. Here, an optimal modification means that the modified system preserves the original comparison values as much as possible. The weight set associated with this modified consistent pairwise comparison system is the resulting weight set of the proposed model. This weight set is unique and has the same accuracy as the weight sets resulting from the non-linear model of BWM. So if the non-linear model has a unique solution, it is same as the solution of the proposed model. Otherwise the solution of the proposed model is the best among all the solutions of the non-linear model. Thus, the proposed method is an improvement over the BWM. The values of consistency index are also modified based on the proposed method. Finally several examples are taken to illustrate the process and a real-world application (energy efficiency constraints in buildings) is taken to validate the proposed method.

The book highlights the use of BWM in different settings including single decision-making vs group decision-making, and complete information vs incomplete and uncertain situations. The papers gathered here will benefit academics and practitioners who are involved in multi-criteria decision-making and decision analysis.

Book Multi criteria Decision Making Methods

Download or read book Multi criteria Decision Making Methods written by Evangelos Triantaphyllou and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) has been one of the fastest growing problem areas in many disciplines. The central problem is how to evaluate a set of alternatives in terms of a number of criteria. Although this problem is very relevant in practice, there are few methods available and their quality is hard to determine. Thus, the question `Which is the best method for a given problem?' has become one of the most important and challenging ones. This is exactly what this book has as its focus and why it is important. The author extensively compares, both theoretically and empirically, real-life MCDM issues and makes the reader aware of quite a number of surprising `abnormalities' with some of these methods. What makes this book so valuable and different is that even though the analyses are rigorous, the results can be understood even by the non-specialist. Audience: Researchers, practitioners, and students; it can be used as a textbook for senior undergraduate or graduate courses in business and engineering.

Book Multiple Attribute Decision Making

Download or read book Multiple Attribute Decision Making written by Ching-Lai Hwang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This mono graph is intended for an advanced undergraduate or graduate course as weIl as for the researchers who want a compilation of developments in this rapidly growing field of operations research. This is a sequel to our previous work entitled "Multiple Objective Decision Making--Methods and Applications: A State-of-the-Art Survey," (No. 164 of the Lecture Notes). The literature on methods and applications of Multiple Attribute Decision Making (MADM) has been reviewed and classified systematically. This study provides readers with a capsule look into the existing methods, their char acteristics, and applicability to analysis of MADM problems. The basic MADM concepts are defined and a standard notation is introduced in Part 11. Also introduced are foundations such as models for MADM, trans formation of attributes, fuzzy decision rules, and methods for assessing weight. A system of classifying seventeen major MADM methods is presented. These methods have been proposed by researchers in diversified disciplines; half of them are classical ones, but the other half have appeared recently. The basic concept, the computational procedure, and the characteristics of each of these methods are presented concisely in Part 111. The computational procedure of each method is illustrated by solving a simple numerical example. Part IV of the survey deals with the applications of these MADM methods.

Book A Neutrosophic Enhanced Best Worst Method for Considering Decision Makers Confidence in the Best and Worst Criteria

Download or read book A Neutrosophic Enhanced Best Worst Method for Considering Decision Makers Confidence in the Best and Worst Criteria written by Amin Vafadarnikjoo and published by Infinite Study. This book was released on with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The best-worst method (BWM) is a multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) method for evaluating a set of alternatives based on a set of decision criteria where two vectors of pairwise comparisons are used to calculate the importance weight of decision criteria. The BWM is an efficient and mathematically sound method used to solve a wide range of MCDM problems by reducing the number of pairwise comparisons and identifying the inconsistencies derived from the comparison process. In spite of its simplicity and efficiency, the BWM does not consider the decision-makers’ (DMs’) confidence about their pairwise comparisons. We propose a neutrosophic enhancement to the original BWM by introducing two new parameters as the DMs’ confidence in the best-to-others preferences and the DMs’ confidence in the others-to-worst preferences. We present two real-world cases to illustrate the applicability of the proposed neutrosophic enhanced BWM (NE-BWM) by considering confidence rating levels of the DMs.

This book was released on 2014-10-30 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a systematic way of how to make better decisions in water resources management. The applications of three weighting methods namely rating, ranking, and ratio are discussed in this book. Additionally, data mining on keywords is presented using three popular scholarly databases: Science Direct, Scopus, and SciVerse. Four abbreviated keywords (MCDM, MCDA, MCA, MADM) representing multi-criteria decision-making were used and these three databases were searched for different popular weighting methods for a period of 13 years (2000-2012). The book provides also a review of weighting methods applied in various multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods and also presents survey results on priority ranking of watershed management criteria undertaken by 30 undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

Book The Pros and Cons of Using Pros and Cons for Multi Criteria Evaluation and Decision Making

Download or read book The Pros and Cons of Using Pros and Cons for Multi Criteria Evaluation and Decision Making written by Michael Wood and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many methods have been proposed for helping with multi-criteria evaluations and decisions. This paper discusses one very simple method - the idea of evaluating objects by comparing them with a base object, and assessing their Pros And Cons On (one or more) Common Scales (of value), summarised by the acronym PACOCS. If the objects in question are the alternatives in a decision, PACOCS can be used to assist decision makers choose the best option. The paper argues that, in many contexts, PACOCS is closer to common sense and its rationale more transparent and user-friendly than other approaches to multi-criteria problems based on weighted sum functions and “even swaps”, despite broad similarities in mathematical terms. This additional transparency is of particular potential importance in the many situations where people untrained in decision analysis have to make multi-criteria decisions.
