Download or read book Widowhood written by Mary Wood and published by Page Publishing, Incorporated. This book was released on 2018-05-23 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is not a book that any woman wishes to read, but it is a "must-read" for the new widow. It explains and helps with the thousand and one things that must be seen to yesterday, following the death of a spouse. You will find annotated checklists to help keep it all together, as well as tips and ideas the new widow may need to just get through it all. This is a situation no woman (or man) should have to face. It may be the most difficult experience of one's life. The author lost her husband in 2015, and this is the result. It is, in her words, "a labor of love." It is not necessarily a book about grief. It is, as it says, a "user's guide." What to do first and how to do it. The book was written over a two-and-a-half-year period and covers many of the emotions that will be felt, as well as the day-to-day tasks that need doing no matter what. Hopefully you will never need this book, but if so, you will find it invaluable

Download or read book Widowhood 101 written by Berenice E Kleiman and published by . This book was released on 2020-12-31 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine yourself dealing with spousal loss and discovering that ALL your income sources have suddenly frozen, including bank accounts, Social Security, pension, and brokerage accounts. You have a mound of paper work and need access to the death certificate, safe deposit box and/or legal papers, even your original Social Security card to prove your identity, marriage and loss. But with Covid-19 banks and government offices are closed. As a matter of fact, you can't even have a formal funeral, wake, Shiva or bereavement to help you mourn your loss. A mountain of demands and paper work stretches out before you with little support or ability to fill out the forms and reopen these accounts. This was the situation I encountered in April 2020 when even my husband's death certificate took eight weeks to arrive. Caught in grief and loss, I vowed as I fought through these challenges that I would leave a trail for others who follow me. I wrote WIDOWHOOD 101 to help widows and widowers prepare for these next steps. Few of us know that our wills and powers of attorney are only two small parts of this new equation. Each chapter ends with "Lessons Learned" to help make your passage easier. This book is targeted to those generally 65 or older, who have a comfortable financial base and have had long marriages. It not only includes my experience but also is based on about 40 interviews with friends and their friends of comparable backgrounds, most of whom were not caught in Covid-19. But they still ran into buzz saws. Among the tips to share: COMMUNICATE with your spouse about end-of-life decisions far in advance, including nursing home vs. home care; burial vs. cremation; even the type of ceremony preferred; COMMUNICATE about your finances and have all pertinent records in one place with accessibility that you share not only with each other but also with your executor. IF A SECOND MARRIAGE involving children in one or both, make sure you have an excellent estate attorney to protect all rights from challenges, especially an attorney not planning to retire in the next couple of years.WIDOWHOOD 101: NEXT STEPS is my story, my grief and all. It's honest...and hopefully will be helpful.

Book Learning to Live Alone

Download or read book Learning to Live Alone written by Bob Hurmence and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2007-07 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What man plans to be the last to die in a marriage? We all believe and statistics support the fact that women live longer than men so why worry about living alone? Leave all the hassels to your loving wife. She'll take your hard earned money and swish off to Paris. But what if, God forbid, that without warning, without any premonition, without even saying "I love you," she is gone? Suddenly you are alone. How do you cope? What skills do you possess? Housekeeping skills that is. Cooking, cleaning, laundry. Did your wife keep the calendar, write the birthday cards, make the appointments, call the repairmen? Who will look after you, make sure your tie matches, your socks are the same, that you get a haircut and you watch your language? This book may not have all of the answers and probably not all of the problems but it does offer advice and comfort to those who are living the life of a widower from one who is living that life. So this is not so much a book about death as it is about how to live. Not the way you planned perhaps but the life that has been given to you.

Book Building a Ministry of Comfort and Compassion

Download or read book Building a Ministry of Comfort and Compassion written by Elaine Cook and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005-06 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time in my life, I finally see purpose for all I have endured with God's amazing Grace. I have a compassion for others who are hurting. Not necessarily just widows, but all hearts. I have a sense about people that I can look into a crowd of faces and sense they are hurting. I do not know the hurt they are experiencing, but I feel their hurt. I often speak to various groups about grief or other similar topics and I look across a room and can just feel the look on their faces by searching their hearts. I cannot explain it. Some often refer to it as the gift of discernment. I often refer to is a curse because after I experience that, it drains me emotionally and physically. But I feel that God uses those times to keep me fresh and true to my feelings and where they come from in order to help others. There is no handbook for women who suddenly find themselves on the downward spiral to widowhood. Building a Ministry of Comfort and Compassion isn't a guideline, but a source of hope and encouragement on the journey into and through widowhood, as experienced by author Elaine Cook.

Book excerpt: It has been noted that anyone who reads and hears everything written in this book, may result in changes in their understanding, finances, health and anyone around them. This book was not written so you can read and hear about all the miracles God did for me. On the contrary, this book was written solely with the purpose of what God can and will do for you. The instructions written in this book, are not written so you can read and hear about how God answered my prayers, needs and wants. Your first step, is this book in your hands and only you can change all of this right now; I can't do it for You. If you take the time to read and hear what God has in these instructions for you, your life will never be the same. I Love you in the Lord always Brother Roland

Book A Widow s Business

  • Author : Liz Swiertz Newman
  • Publisher : CreateSpace
  • Release : 2015-07-28
  • ISBN : 9781514625170
  • Pages : 172 pages

Download or read book A Widow s Business written by Liz Swiertz Newman and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-07-28 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A WIDOW'S BUSINESS brings order to the many things a new widow has to handle-from organizing tasks in their order of importance to gathering the information needed to dealing with finances. The book also contains a simple overview of taxes, probate, and legal documents. In addition, a handy section helps a new widow prepare instructions for her future executors, to make their tasks easier. After the death of her husband, Liz Swiertz Newman had been overwhelmed by the amount of business there was to tend to. She looked for a book to help her know what to do and when to do it. She began making to-do lists, and when she contemplated the 15 pages of lists, she realized that she had begun to write the book that she needed-that widows need. A WIDOW'S BUSINESS: A Practical Guide Through the First Year after the Death of a Spouse, resulted from the organization of her lists and the inclusion of the kind of information other widows might need. Items covered in the first chapter address what is required immediately upon the death of one's spouse, including whom to notify. The second chapter begins with information needed and where to get help. Also discussed are composing an obituary notice and planning a memorial service. The third chapter helps a new widow get organized at home to cope with the incoming paperwork and other items. The fourth chapter addresses money-what to expect, where to apply for assistance, and how to set up accounts. The author explains that help is at hand through a widow's team of human resources-her CPA, her trust attorney if she has one, her banker or Certified Financial Planner, and others. She gives an overview of taxes, trusts, wills, and probate. This chapter ends with a review of scams, the fraudulent schemes that attempt to cheat people out of their money. The fifth chapter outlines the rest of the tasks required of a widow, from the next most in importance to those that can wait a while. The sixth and final chapter makes recommendations as to what a widow can do to plan ahead, including a section on how to draw up instructions for a future executor and how to organize a list of bequests. The lists are connected with brief narratives about the author's own experiences. Ideally, all couples should read A WIDOW'S BUSINESS before they ever have a need for it. Besides being indispensable to a new widow or widower, the information is good to know and good for sharing with others.
