Book On The Validity of Dempster Shafer Theory

Download or read book On The Validity of Dempster Shafer Theory written by Jean Dezert and published by Infinite Study. This book was released on 2012-11-01 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We challenge the validity of Dempster-Shafer Theory by using an emblematic example to show that DS rule produces counter-intuitive result. Further analysis reveals that the result comes from a understanding of evidence pooling which goes against the common expectation of this process. Although DS theory has attracted some interest of the scientific community working in information fusion and artificial intelligence, its validity to solve practical problems is problematic, because it is not applicable to evidences combination in general, but only to a certain type situations which still need to be clearly identified.

Book Generalized combination rule for evidential reasoning approach and Dempster Shafer theory of evidence

Download or read book Generalized combination rule for evidential reasoning approach and Dempster Shafer theory of evidence written by Yuan-Wei Du and published by Infinite Study. This book was released on with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dempster–Shafer (DS) theory of evidence can combine evidence with one parameter. The evidential reasoning (ER) approach is an extension of DS theory that can combine evidence with two parameters (weights and reliabilities). However, it has three infeasible aspects: reliability dependence, unreliability effectiveness, and intergeneration inconsistency.

Book Evidence Theory and Its Applications

Download or read book Evidence Theory and Its Applications written by Jiwen W. Guan and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 692 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An introduction to evidence theory and its applications is presented in this book. It is based on the important Dempster-Shafer theory, which significantly generalizes classic Bayesian statistics and has proved to be useful in a variety of applications. The aim of the volume is to bring the theory up to date by focusing, in particular, on key work by Shafer and Logan as well as on some of the authors' own contributions. as: artificial intelligence, expert systems, information systems, computer science, decision making, problem solving, business management, statistics, and mathematics. This systematic self-contained description of evidence theory based on set theory is suitable for both lectures and self-study and should serve to strengthen the reader's background and problem-solving abilities.

Book A Mathematical Theory of Evidence

Download or read book A Mathematical Theory of Evidence written by Glenn Shafer and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2020-06-30 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both in science and in practical affairs we reason by combining facts only inconclusively supported by evidence. Building on an abstract understanding of this process of combination, this book constructs a new theory of epistemic probability. The theory draws on the work of A. P. Dempster but diverges from Depster's viewpoint by identifying his "lower probabilities" as epistemic probabilities and taking his rule for combining "upper and lower probabilities" as fundamental. The book opens with a critique of the well-known Bayesian theory of epistemic probability. It then proceeds to develop an alternative to the additive set functions and the rule of conditioning of the Bayesian theory: set functions that need only be what Choquet called "monotone of order of infinity." and Dempster's rule for combining such set functions. This rule, together with the idea of "weights of evidence," leads to both an extensive new theory and a better understanding of the Bayesian theory. The book concludes with a brief treatment of statistical inference and a discussion of the limitations of epistemic probability. Appendices contain mathematical proofs, which are relatively elementary and seldom depend on mathematics more advanced that the binomial theorem.

Book A Statistical Viewpoint on the Theory of Evidence Revision

Download or read book A Statistical Viewpoint on the Theory of Evidence Revision written by Robert A. Hummel and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document describes a viewpoint on the Dempster/Shafer Theory of Evidence, and provide an interpretation which regards the combination formulas as statics of the opinions of experts. This is done by introducing spaces with binary operations that are simpler to interpret or simpler to implement than the standard combination formula, and showing that these spaces can be mapped homomorphically onto the Dempster/Shafer theory of evidence space. The experts in the space of opinions of experts combine information in a Bayesian fashion. Presented are alternative spaces for the combination of evidence suggested by this viewpoint.
