Book A Silvicultural Guide for the White Pine and Red Pine Working Groups in Ontario

Download or read book A Silvicultural Guide for the White Pine and Red Pine Working Groups in Ontario written by David John Chapeskie and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This silvicultural guide is one of several, each of which provides a description of the silvicultural characteristics of the working group species and describes silvicultural practices for the working group. The guide reflects relevant literature and research, and the knowledge and experience of forestry staff in the management of the working group in Ontario and elsewhere. The guide covers the range and commercial importance of white pine and red spruce, siting, and wildlife and environmental considerations. Management prescriptions include such silvicultural systems as shelterwood and clear cut systems, harvesting considerations, forest renewal, stand maintenance, conversion and management intensity. Data is also given on the age-class distribution, historical harvest, average roundwood receipts, and biological rotation ages.

Book The Assessment and Modeling of Regeneration Dynamics for Eastern White Pine Pinus Strobus L

Download or read book The Assessment and Modeling of Regeneration Dynamics for Eastern White Pine Pinus Strobus L written by Jerome Allan Krueger and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study represents an analysis of regeneration processes for eastern white pine (Pinus strohus L.). The objective is to develop an integrated approach to evaluate the influence of factors that, alone and in combination, determine regeneration outcomes. This study is composed of three sections. The first chapter is a literature review of white pine regeneration dynamics. The purpose is to present a process for understanding the regeneration process of a single species and present a conceptual approach to integrated evaluation of influential variables. Six interrelated ecological factors (seed tree density, competition, disturbance, seedbed conditions, soils, and damage agents) were identified and their impact on the regeneration process is evaluated. A conceptual model of the integration approach and two examples of how this approach can be utilized in assessing regeneration operations are presented.

Download or read book Temagami written by Matt Bray and published by Dundurn. This book was released on 1996-08-08 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past two decades, the question of who owns the land of Temagami and how the land should be used has caused a debate of unparalleled intensity. For the native people, it is their lands under attack. For environmentalists from all parts of Ontario, it is a case of ecological preservation of a unique but fast-disappearing wilderness. For others, dependent upon the resource sector, it is a matter of economic survival, both individually and for their communities. In an attempt to clarify the issues surrounding Temagami, Laurentian University’s Institute of Northern Ontario Development and Research invited participants in the Temagami debate to a conference in October, 1989. What follows in this volume are eleven of the revised papers originally presented there. A balanced perspective on the issues at hand is coupled with the views of the various interest groups. Topics covered include aboriginal rights in Temagami, the development of a wilderness park system in Ontario, the management of multiple resources, the importance of tourism in Temagami and an environmentalist’s perspective.

Book White Pine and Red Pine Volume Growth Under Uniform Shelterwood Management in Algonquin Provincial Park

Download or read book White Pine and Red Pine Volume Growth Under Uniform Shelterwood Management in Algonquin Provincial Park written by G. D. Puttock and published by Sault Ste Marie, Ont. : Great Lakes Forestry Centre. This book was released on 1995 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Outlines the development and use of a compatible growth and yield model for red pine and white pine stands under a uniform shelterwood silvicultural system in Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario. The model incorporates stand age, residual (post-harvest) basal area, site index, composition index (proportion of pine basal area), and projected age as predictor variables for estimating residual gross merchantable pine volume and for projecting basal area and gross merchantable pine volume growth over a given time period. Model results are presented for periods up to 25 years following uniform shelterwood harvesting and for stand ages of 40 to 130 years. The appendix contains yield curves and yield tables.
