This book was released on 2018-12-22 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Norman County, Minnesota, in the World War For almost three years the Great World War had been raging across the waters. On April oth, 1917 the news was flashed to Norman County and the world that the United States had thrown herself into the greatest conflict of all ages. For almost three years we, the people of Norman County' had been peacefully going about our peacetime labors, almost ignoring the great struggle miles away In an instant, on this beautiful day in April, 1917, we were at once plunged into this awful carnage. Little did we think that before it was finished sixty-three of our boys would pay the supreme sacrifice and give their lives in the trenches, in the waters of the ocean and in camps where the grim reaper stalked in the form of awful pestilence that broke out seemingly as a punishment to man for his wickedness. Little did we think that more than 800 of our boys would be called to the great struggle. Of the splendid armv of the United States that eventually turned the tide of battle and brought peace again to the war torn world more than 800 were our own home boys and young women from Norman County who fought and trained in every arm of the United States Forces - dough boy, artillerymen, marine, aviator, sail or and nurse they all brought glory to their County and Country. While they were gone to fight the battles of their country let us not forget the work of the home folks, the endless hours spent in knitting for their comfort, the soliciting for the Red Cross and Liberty Loan and other war activities. Book Family Maps of Norman County Minnesota Deluxe Edition

Download or read book Family Maps of Norman County Minnesota Deluxe Edition written by Gregory A. Boyd and published by . This book was released on 2010-05-20 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 264 pages with 86 total maps Locating original landowners in maps has never been an easy task-until now. This volume in the Family Maps series contains newly created maps of original landowners (patent maps) in what is now Norman County, Minnesota, gleaned from the indexes of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. But it offers much more than that. For each township in the county, there are two additional maps accompanying the patent map: a road map and a map showing waterways, railroads, and both modern and many historical city-centers and cemeteries. Included are indexes to help you locate what you are looking for, whether you know a person's name, a last name, a place-name, or a cemetery. The combination of maps and indexes are designed to aid researchers of American history or genealogy to explore frontier neighborhoods, examine family migrations, locate hard-to-find cemeteries and towns, as well as locate land based on legal descriptions found in old documents or deeds. The patent-maps are essentially plat maps but instead of depicting owners for a particular year, these maps show original landowners, no matter when the transfer from the federal government was completed. Dates of patents typically begin near the time of statehood and run into the early 1900s. What's Mapped in this book (that you'll not likely find elsewhere) . . . 2175 Parcels of Land (with original landowner names and patent-dates labeled in the relevant map) 59 Cemeteries plus . . . Roads, and existing Rivers, Creeks, Streams, Railroads, and Small-towns (including some historical), etc. What YEARS are these maps for? Here are the counts for parcels of land mapped, by the decade in which the corresponding land patents were issued: DecadeParcel-count 1870s109 1880s1450 1890s551 1900s61 1910s2 What Cities and Towns are in Norman County, Minnesota (and in this book)? Born into a hard working but somewhat poor family in Surry County, North Carolina; the future Confederate Captain lived a life out on the frontiers in Iowa and Nebraska as a schoolteacher, clerk and farmer with varied success. Book A Brief History of the Hundred Years War

Download or read book A Brief History of the Hundred Years War written by Desmond Seward and published by Robinson. This book was released on 2013-07-25 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over a hundred years England repeatedly invaded France on the pretext that her kings had a right to the French throne. France was a large, unwieldy kingdom, England was small and poor, but for the most part she dominated the war, sacking towns and castles and winning battles - including such glorious victories as Crecy, Poitiers and Agincourt, but then the English run of success began to fail, and in four short years she lost Normandy and finally her last stronghold in Guyenne. The protagonists of the Hundred Year War are among the most colourful in European history: for the English, Edward III, the Black Prince and Henry V, later immortalized by Shakespeare; for the French, the splendid but inept John II, who died a prisoner in London, Charles V, who very nearly overcame England and the enigmatic Charles VII, who did at last drive the English out.
