Book A Shock Tube Study of the Ignition Limit of Boron Particles

Download or read book A Shock Tube Study of the Ignition Limit of Boron Particles written by Robert T. Uda and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A shock tube study was conducted to determine the ignition limit of clouds of boron particles. The ignition limit is an experimentally determined curve, plotted on temperature-pressure coordinates, separating the ignition and no ignition zones. A 3-inch inside diameter constant area shock tube employing a helium/air gas system was used for igniting the boron particles. The particles were ignited in the high temperature region behind the reflected shock wave. The boron samples used were 30-50 micron diameter agglomerates (1-2 micron primary particles) and 0.015 micron diameter particles. Ignition delay time of 0.015 micron particles was also obtained. (Author).

Book Boron Ignition Limit Curve as Determined by a Shock Tube Study

Download or read book Boron Ignition Limit Curve as Determined by a Shock Tube Study written by James T. Jones and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A shock tube was employed to establish ignition limit curves for two particle sizes of boron. The particles were ignited in air by the temperature rise behind the reflected shock wave. Results show that the ignition temperature for .015 micron particles increases linearly with pressure from 1130 K at 6 atm to 1170 K at 130 atm. For 30-50 micron agglomerated particles (1-2 micron primary size) the ignition temperature decreases initially to 1390 K at 20 atm but then increases linearly to 1420 K at 130 atm. In addition, preliminary information was obtained on ignition delay time for both particles. (Author).

Book Shock Tube Studies of Boron Particle Ignition

Download or read book Shock Tube Studies of Boron Particle Ignition written by Harold F Chambers (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A shock tube technique has been developed to allow the separation of heatup from ignition delay time for a metal particle. An analytical model was formulated to predict the position, velocity and temperature of a boron particle in the shock tube as a function of time. The model was used to determine ignition delay time and particle temperature at ignition. Ignition delay times were measured for boron particles of nominally one micron diameter. Particle size and shape diagnostics were conducted by means of scanning electron microscope and floatation tests. Shock tube experiments were conducted using mixtures of ten, twenty, and fifty percent oxygen in argon. Particle ignition occurred over a range of 2200K to 3600K and 100 to 400 psia. Ignition delay was shown to vary directly with particle diameter and inversely with gas temperature and oxidizer pressure. The data were used to calculate an activation energy for the boron ignition reaction. Particle temperature at ignition was calculated. (Modified author abstract).

Book Shock Tube Study of the Ignition and Combustion of Aluminum

Download or read book Shock Tube Study of the Ignition and Combustion of Aluminum written by J. F. Driscoll and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this project is to obtain data that will help identify the reaction mechanism and the ignition limits of aluminum at elevated temperatures and pressures. Formidable problems arise when attempting such measurements in rocket motors since conditions are unsteady and not easy to control. Therefore, it was decided to mount a pure aluminum sample to the end wall of a shock tube and to ignite the sample using a reflected shock wave. The pressures and temperatures that can be achieved (40 atm, 5000 K) are typical of rocket motor conditions and are much higher than those obtained in previous studies using incident shock waves in conventional shock tubes. The aluminum sample reacts with a test gas in which the proportions of nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen and chlorine are the same as found in ammonium perchlorate.

Download or read book Applications of Turbulent and Multiphase Combustion written by Kenneth Kuan-yun Kuo and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-05-01 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A hands-on, integrated approach to solving combustion problems in diverse areas An understanding of turbulence, combustion, and multiphase reacting flows is essential for engineers and scientists in many industries, including power genera-tion, jet and rocket propulsion, pollution control, fire prevention and safety, and material processing. This book offers a highly practical discussion of burning behavior and chemical processes occurring in diverse materials, arming readers with the tools they need to solve the most complex combustion problems facing the scientific community today. The second of a two-volume work, Applications of Turbulent and Multiphase Combustion expands on topics involving laminar flames from Professor Kuo's bestselling book Principles of Combustion, Second Edition, then builds upon the theory discussed in the companion volume Fundamentals of Turbulent and Multiphase Combustion to address in detail cutting-edge experimental techniques and applications not covered anywhere else. Special features of this book include: Coverage of advanced applications such as solid propellants, burning behavior, and chemical boundary layer flows A multiphase systems approach discussing basic concepts before moving to higher-level applications A large number of practical examples gleaned from the authors' experience along with problems and a solutions manual Engineers and researchers in chemical and mechanical engineering and materials science will find Applications of Turbulent and Multiphase Combustion an indispensable guide for upgrading their skills and keeping up with this rapidly evolving area. It is also an excellent resource for students and professionals in mechanical, chemical, and aerospace engineering.

Book The Third Resource

Download or read book The Third Resource written by Istvan Tuba and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005-03 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A nation's commonly held ideas about economics determine success or failure of that society to meet its basic needs and promote a steadily increasing standard of living and quality of life in a safe and secure environment for its members. We examine and explain basic differences and similarities between the USSR-led Soviet/Communist/Socialist and the USA-led Democratic/Free Market/Capitalistic economic ideologies. Initiated by the ill-fated 1956 Hungarian Revolution against the USSR, certain new ideological concepts resulted. From the ruins of one dominating system (USSR) and another surviving successful one (USA), it was possible to create a new Universal Ideology of Economics (UIE). This UIE could be understood by anyone on this earth and educated to believe in any previously-defined political or economic ideologies and should replace all political ideologies. The Third Resource for new wealth creation, i.e., human-generated resources, which consist of technology and strategic capital, renders unnecessary all local and regional conflicts. Human-generated resources continually expand, transfer easily, and are unlimited. The USA's success over USSR was based on taking advantage of The Third Resource although, at the time, we did not use that name. The continued, peaceful, unlimited development of the world depends on recognizing and using The Third Resource.
