Book Machine Learning at the Belle II Experiment

Download or read book Machine Learning at the Belle II Experiment written by Thomas Keck and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-29 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how machine learning can be used to improve the efficiency of expensive fundamental science experiments. The first part introduces the Belle and Belle II experiments, providing a detailed description of the Belle to Belle II data conversion tool, currently used by many analysts. The second part covers machine learning in high-energy physics, discussing the Belle II machine learning infrastructure and selected algorithms in detail. Furthermore, it examines several machine learning techniques that can be used to control and reduce systematic uncertainties. The third part investigates the important exclusive B tagging technique, unique to physics experiments operating at the Υ resonances, and studies in-depth the novel Full Event Interpretation algorithm, which doubles the maximum tag-side efficiency of its predecessor. The fourth part presents a complete measurement of the branching fraction of the rare leptonic B decay “B→tau nu”, which is used to validate the algorithms discussed in previous parts.

  • Author : Andrzej Buras
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2020-07-02
  • ISBN : 1107034035
  • Pages : 739 pages

Download or read book Gauge Theory of Weak Decays written by Andrzej Buras and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-07-02 with total page 739 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The ultimate question of elementary particle physics is: What is the fundamental Lagrangian of nature surrounding us? The Lagrangian of the SM is very successful in describing nature at the currently available energy range. The discovery of the Higgs boson completed the particle spectrum of the SM and it is another proof of how well the SM works. Nevertheless the SM cannot be the end of the story and it is for sure not the fundamental Lagrangian of nature. The Lagrangian of the SM looses its validity at the latest at the Planck scale where gravitational effects become noticeable. Most physicists think of the SM as an effective theory that has to be replaced by a more fundamental theory above the TeV scale. What the word effective really means will hopefully be clear at later stages of our book. For the time being we will list some problems and open questions of the SM"--

Book B Decays

    Book Details:
  • Author : Sheldon Stone
  • Publisher : World Scientific
  • Release : 1994
  • ISBN : 9789810218362
  • Pages : 676 pages

Download or read book B Decays written by Sheldon Stone and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2nd edition is an extensive update of "B Decays?. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of ?Penguin? mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the ?Standard Model? and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.

Book Searching for New Physics in b sl l Transitions at the LHCb Experiment

Download or read book Searching for New Physics in b sl l Transitions at the LHCb Experiment written by Luca Pescatore and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-04 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents two analyses of semileptonic b → sl+l− decays using Flavour Changing Neutral Currents (FCNCs) to test for the presence of new physics and lepton flavour universality, and the equality of couplings for different leptons, which on the basis of experimental evidence is assumed to hold in the Standard Model, free from uncertainties as a result of knowledge of the hadronic matrix elements. It also includes the angular analysis of Lambda_b->Lambda mumu decay and the RK* measurement, both of which are first measurements, not yet performed by any other experiment.

Book B Physics And Cp Violation Bcp4 Proceedings Of The International Workshop

Download or read book B Physics And Cp Violation Bcp4 Proceedings Of The International Workshop written by T Ohshima and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-09-25 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers the first strong evidence of the existence of CP violation in neutral B decays extracted from sophisticated B factories in the US and Japan. It also holds out the expectation of rare B decays and D, K physics in the near future. In addition, new physics beyond the Standard Model is described. Both experimental and theoretical points of view are given.

Book New Era For Cp Asymmetries Axions And Rare Decays Of Hadrons And Leptons

Download or read book New Era For Cp Asymmetries Axions And Rare Decays Of Hadrons And Leptons written by Ikaros I Bigi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-07-14 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is dedicated to Lev Okun, who passed away in November 2015. He was a true pioneer in probing fundamental dynamics. The book has two objectives. First is to showcase Okun's impact for decades since 1963, when he published his remarkable book Weak Interaction of Elementary Particles. Second is to present the current progress of our scientific community in the studies of our Universe. New directions and possible future developments are discussed, often using the past as a guide. The authors mostly focus on CP asymmetries in the transitions of hadrons and leptons, but they also discuss their rare decays, and talk about axions and supersymmetry, and possible connections with dark matter, extra dimensions, baryogenesis and multiverse. This book is suitable for readers who know quantum mechanics and quantum field theories in general.

Book The Physics of the B Factories

Download or read book The Physics of the B Factories written by Adrian Bevan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-23 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive work thoroughly introduces and reviews the set of results from Belle and BaBar - after more than two decades of independent and complementary work - all the way from the detectors and the analysis tools used, up to the physics results, and the interpretation of these results. The world’s two giant B Factory collaborations, Belle at KEK and BaBar at SLAC, have successfully completed their main mission to discover and quantify CP violation in the decays of B mesons. CP violation is a necessary requirement to distinguish unambiguously between matter and antimatter. The shared primary objective of the two B Factory experiments was to determine the shape of the so-called unitarity triangle, an abstract triangle representing interactions of quarks, the elementary constituents of matter. The area of the triangle is a measure of the amount of CP violation associated with the weak force. Many other measurements have been performed by the B Factories and are also discussed in this work.
